yeah, it almost definitely has to do with the edits you made to the dialogue bank right before the bytes in question. Every time you save with FF4kster it does the same thing, wherein it accidentally bleeds that dialogue bank into that little bit of code that deals with caller's orbs.

Best thing to do: Start with a version of your ROM that works (with all the edits you've made thus far, plus the fix I helped you with); make a copy of the file; open the ROM in FF4kster; don't make any changes with FF4kster but save changes in FF4kster; use Lunar IPS to create a patch, using the saved-with-FF4kster version as the "base" and the original working ROM as the "edited." Then, every time you make edits with FF4kster, apply this patch afterwards.
A bit more work up front, but easier to deal with than hex editing every time thereafter.

I was alerted that my CT patches are rather damp and still needed time in the dryer.  By that I mean the internal checksums didn't match up.  So I gave every one of them a quick spin through ucon64.  Let me know if this fixes or breaks anything, I'm wondering what the state of Canoe compatibility is now as I don't have the resources to test it.

Oh, and uh... Falcon Hit is now Falcon Cut to keep consistent with Demon Hit getting similar treatment.  Zanmato is staying in liberties for the same reason why Power Meal is.  Whoop.

EDIT: Fixed a typo in Trann Dome.

For anyone else who is working on a hack and is using FF4kster, this is a reoccurring problem for me.  I can edit the hex and restore functionality, but continuing to edit the file with FF4kster makes the same issue happen.

I am going to finish the hack as much as I can, then alpha and beta test, hopefully finding any bleed-through of code, then go back and polish the ROM.

Thanks again for the help!

Final Fantasy V Research & Development / Re: Landing Bugfix

What happens if we've already applied the noisecross patch? How easy is it to replace that with this?

It's probably worth mentioning that there are a few other map-related bugs that noisecross's patch fixes that aren't mentioned here.
The patches are 100% compatible. Actually, this patch (the elder tree forest fix I did) is included in noiscross's newest version of the map fix. If you are using noiscross's map fix, then you already have this very fix.

It all started when I asked noisecross to combine my patch and his, since similar issues were fixed - and less patches means less files to download/manage. However, my old version was kind of an improvised fix - so with more experience now, I managed to produce a better fix. It only has one drawback: It uses 9 formerly unused tiles, so it is uncompatible with other patches which use those 9 tiles. Also, if you need those extra tiles for your own hack, you also shoudln't use this - that's why you can still opt for his older version.

Oooookay, here's what happened since last post:

-The Dornio Inn man is now drowning his sorrows.  Living it up had the same intent so I didn't deal with this in the first pass, buuuut I made a judgement call here and this is better.  These people are expecting the worst after all.
-I did however, keep the clear your conscience thing.  The nun is to call someone to pray because the apocalypse is coming, and honestly as someone who comes from a huge church community being raised around end of the world calls I realize this has the same intent.  I've heard both.
-After the prehistoric party, Ayla now says she drank too much Rock Crash.  I had originally kept the eating part in first pass because she talks about both eating and drinking.  After restoring Rock Crash though this is much more inconsistent.
-The future Lab locations are now Ruins.  The DS version has these listed as "sites."  Honestly though, since the english script and chapter name call them ruins I think these should be named such for consistency.  This includes Doan, as his Lab mention was capitalized wrong anyway.

Later?  Eh... Real Life has managed to creep in and I can only think of very minor things to tend to anymore on this branch (like... maybe Falcon Hit to Falcon Cut?  Make Zamato a thing in all patches?  That kind of small).  Any updates will surely take a long while otherwise.

So I wonder, are you interested in landing a hand to finish it? I'm OK if we re-spec it for FF6, because internally it was made flexible so later on to be used for all FFs (4,5,6), that will cover versions 1, 3, 4.

I have no programming experience in what most music commands do programmatically to a waveform (or channel / song).I used to deal with FF6 music commands to tweak songs but that was a few years ago.. What I could try doing is looking at some FF4 song data and document the missing commands, if there are any. After documenting everything generating a document such as this one for FF4 would be easy. FF6 support in a later time would actually be awesome  :childish:

I'm not promising anything very shortly but I'll look at this..

I just wanted to say that I hate you. I wanted to forget about my hack and suddently you appeared from nowhere, bashing bugs like crazy, forcing me to update the hack countless times.

CV Reynolds probably hates me too because I keep making him update his bugfix comp. No regrets!

Now seriously, I wish you luck in school and your life. Thanks for all these years of dedication, you have done A LOT for this community.

Thank you! :childish:

Sorry for the late reply, but I haven't noticed this thread until today, I always go directly to the FF6 subforum xD

Woah Madsiur, that is quite some work!!!

 :edit:
Its funny the timing of your post ... I was working on version 1 for FF4 of Square SPC Engine like 2 years ago, but had to freeze the project because of the lack of support. 2 days ago somebody else asked about that project.
So I wonder, are you interested in landing a hand to finish it? I'm OK if we re-spec it for FF6, because internally it was made flexible so later on to be used for all FFs (4,5,6), that will cover versions 1, 3, 4. In short regardless for what FF it will finish first, short after it will cover all others :)
