How game determines which chanting animation
« on: July 24, 2015, 03:35:00 AM »
Hello. I'm developing new spells for my hack and I don't know how or where the game determines which spells use the White Magic animation and which spells use the Black Magic animation. FF4kster doesn't have any information as far as I can tell. The closest thing I can find in that program is the Features tab with the range of spells classified as White, which doesn't fix my problem.

It doesn't?? It should... it did for me... are you talking about the green ring for black and the white orbs for white?

Strange... I was under the impression that's all changing the range does in the editor. (Unless PinkPuff did put in the Wisdom/Will range check somewhere down the line and I missed this)

It changes a bunch of things IIRC. I can post an exhaustive list of addresses later.

I believe you can set the ranges for white and summon magic in the "Features" section of the editor. Anything outside of one of those two ranges will probably default to the black magic casting animation seeing as there are no range for black magic.

So if you want to make your new spell use the white or summon cast you'll need to tweak the ranges in  Features, then move some spells around in your spell list (using Shift+Enter should let you move things around quick and easy) and you should be good to go!

Since we're on the topic of spellcasting animations, has anyone been been able to pinpoint the general area that the graphics for them are stored?  I've yet to come across any of them despite my many fun hours of poking around in YYCHR.
I update my graphics thread on almost a daily basis, so keep an eye out for new stuff!
