General Discussion / Re: NFL season (2009-2010), week 1

Panthers @ Falcons (division)

Falcons - This game might be closer, but are you willing to bet on Delhomme after that disaster of a game?

Quote
Vikings @ Lions (division)

Vikings - If Brett Favre screws this up, I promise to post a rolling marquee about it. Yes, Leno, I'm serious!

Quote
Bengals @ Packers

Packers - After that devastating a loss for the Bengals, going on the road is not a solution to the problem.

Quote
Texans @ Titans (division)

Titans - The Texans were unprepared the last time... I'm not sure they are going to do any better.

Quote
Raiders @ Chiefs (division)

Chiefs - I'm not comfortable with this pick, but Matt Cassel's coming back, plus the Raiders are coming off an MNF loss...

Quote
Patriots @ Jets (division)

Pats - I'm amused at all the Jets comments about the game...

Quote
Saints @ Eagles

Saints - McNabb is out, so that doesn't really make the Eagles job that much easier...

Quote
Rams @ Redskins

Redskins - I'm not sure going on the road will help the Rams that much...

Quote
Cardinals @ Jaguars

Jags - I don't think the Cards high flying offense will hold up on the road... despite the Jags losing to the Colts.

Quote
Buccaneers @ Bills

Bills - I don't trust Leftwich as QB.. and the Bills didn't really suck on MNF... they kinda choked.

Quote
Seahawks @ 49'ers (division)

49ers - I'm sure that win against the Super Bowl losers will catch on... somewhat.

Quote
Steelers @ Bears

Steelers - The Steelers run game will progressively get better.. but the Bears loss of Urlacher will certainly hurt the Bears this year.

Quote
Ravens @ Chargers

Ravens - Chargers are coming of MNF... and despite this being a road game, the Ravens have a slight upper edge... even with their 2nd year QB

Quote
Browns @ Broncos

Broncos - Mangini vs McDaniels... how much fun is that? It will probably be ugly.

Quote
Giants @ Cowboys (division)

Cowboys - They are the early-winning team... just not a late winning team. I'm sure the game will be close though.

Quote
Colts @ Dolphins

Colts - Does the Wildcat scare you? It's a glorified trick play, but it's still useful.

Note: 3 game differences from Leno

I forgot the mention, but the whole point of Jump is to increase the accuracy/hit rate of Kain, which is hard to tell for most weapons, other than say the Blood Spear.

IIRC, Barbariccia has a weaker evasion rate in FF2US (in tornado form, where it does show more), but that could be my memory going.

I'm pretty sure she does; I misread the original quote. I thought he was saying that Kain couldn't hit her when jumping (MISS! is pretty common, but he does land a hit every once in a while) and that magic didn't work on her.

Well, if you used the Drain/Blood Spear, then sure it's very common. However, if you keep his default weapon... combined with Jump, it shouldn't miss (unless he's really underleveled) against her Tornado form.

Magic does work on her... just not in Tornado form.

That page is a joke...

Censoring swearing and rephrasing some "important" phrases (like the few that hint that Cecil + Rosa have been sleeping together on a long time basis--not that it's surprising that this would be censored in the US...)

Uh, what? One of J2e's embellishments, no doubt, but I'm having a hard time remembering it.

I'm sure the William Shatner reference was probably it... although I like him.

Once when I was fighting Octomammoth, Tella remembered Thundaga. That was sure a quick fight.

In FF2 US, there are no front or back lines when fighting the enemy.

Yes there are...

Wikipedia is part of the problem IIRC. Then again, they suck.

Many of the bosses were toned down for FF2US. For example, the Dark Dragon does much more damage with his Dark Breath, and Valvalicia cannot be hit in her spin except by Cain's Jump attack, or by magic.

Dark breath is HP based; you can hit Barbariccia in any version.

IIRC, Barbariccia has a weaker evasion rate in FF2US (in tornado form, where it does show more), but that could be my memory going.

On a similar note, Asura is *much* more difficult to beat in FF4, since the first thing she does before you can do anything is cast "Protesu" on herself, making physical attacks do next to nothing

Yeah, that five extra points of defense really makes her impossible...

I would argue that Asura in FF2US is harder because of Cure4.

or example, the Molbol's Kusai Iki (Bad breath) gives you every bad status effect you can have, and since Ban Nouyakus (aka Heal potions) are so rare, if the characters that can cast "Esuna" get affected you're basically screwed.

Funny, I usually have an ample supply of remedies, without buying any. Of course, we all know to equip rune rings in that cave and prevent bad breath from doing anything to us anyway, right?

Not everyone can equip Rune Rings (but it's the most ideal option), but the Ruby Ring (yes, the 0 defense armor) is almighty for everyone.

Well, you start at the last levels... so you technically "can" finish the game... just not completely.

I'm not entirely impressed with his first hack to be honest. When parts of the levels mirror the original, it's not that unique. Additionally... some of the "different" enemies are over-rehashes of the older ones.

There's a few levels worth speaking about, but otherwise I was a bit disappointed for the most part.

No, you fight Troian monsters there. I believe the encounter zone overlaps with the island where the cave manus is located.

It doesn't. I ran tests moments ago. Just to be clear, it's the Chocobo forest that is close to the connecting shallows, but isn't connected at all.

It doesn't have Troian monsters or it doesn't overlap? I'm guessing the latter, since I was almost certain about the monsters.

The only place where this exists in FF4 is north of Mt. Ordeals... otherwise there would have been more to say.

FYI, I remember being scared to death about using a regular Chocobo @ the Black Chocobo forest in fear of being stuck in the southern forests. Only until FF4A where I found the last of the Chocobo Forests.... some of these places would be great for secret hidden treasure.

The game made it so that a Chocobo Forest is accessible during any part of the game. The only exception is when you're doing the entire Kaipo to Fabul traveling (once you get Yang, then you finally get access to the next Chocobo Forest). The only other time where this is not true is when you first reach the Underground... you have to do the Calbrena-Golbez event first.

The standard forest is called "Chocobo Forest;" the chocobo shaped one is the village. I'm not saying it was supposed to be a chocobo forest, just that it may have been a map at one of those locations. The island forest doesn't make any sense, and the other one isn't perfectly round like every other chocobo forest. Like I said, I still think it's likely that the island was the original chocobo village; it's isolated from the rest of the world, and there's absolutely no reason to have a normal forest at that location. They may have moved it so you'd be able to return after losing access to the Enterprise (Of course, you could also always return to Troia with a black chocobo, and screw up the location of the event with Kain). This map offers another possible explanation of what was there.

Another possibility is that the island was originally connected to the Damcyan desert via the shoals, so you could access the fat chocobo after getting the hovercraft. The monsters over there would absolutely decimate you at that point in the game, though.

IIRC, the monsters there are exactly those in the desert of Kaipo. You might be thinking of the chocobo-like shaped forest next to Silvera.

All Chocobo villages look the same, other than the special Black Chocobo forest.

I'm pretty convinced there was supposed to be a cut scene with Kain that was never finished/completed.

Why does FOX feed me this crap, called Vikings @ Browns? Then again, CBS is screwing me over with Jets @ Texans... arrrgh.

Time to root for the Browns, despite my pick against em.

I checked the event script, and there's no healing (status or otherwise) done before the battle. So, that should work. If it does, I'd be interested to know how much freedom you have during all the battle dialogue. Can you kill Golbez before his dragon appears?

There isn't much time (if you've tried my unfinished hack, it's very hard to accomplish that).

Since Golbez becomes vulnerable after the Mist Dragon is used, and to boot IIRC he has some reasonably high Agility (evidenced by a boatload of Do Nothings in this script), you can probably get in and revive right after the Shadow Dragon kills everyone (Kain being optional if you time it right), so you could arguably have like 1 dead character once the battle actually starts.
