Pwnzjoo's Playthrough
« on: August 13, 2008, 05:12:35 AM »
Hey guys, been playing through the hack, having a great time... Been discovering a lot of cool stuff, involving strategies etc, figured I'd post them in this first topic, then move on to my progress.

My life so far has been based on my "Cover trick";  Essentially, I placed Cecil in the back row, left everyone on my team at critical, and laughed at every single enemy in the game as it did 1 damage to Cecil.  ... Except the Paladins, although I did use the cover trick to beat them at level average 29-30  (THEY WERE HARD.  AS HELL.  D:)

Farm the stoneman trick.  Haha, this is not really a trick.  Observe.

Okay.  Anyway, that nonsense aside... So far, the game has been decently challenging.. however, the cover trick has made every dungeon in the entire game a breeze, and the bosses haven't been particularly difficult so far.  However, I just read a post about Rubicant at level 48, so maybe I'll hit a rut soon, considering a level average of 32, 33 here.  Lol.

Just beginning the Underworld, heading into Rubicant's tower.

Hmm, Don't think so.  I haven't logged on to Gamefaqs in over a year, and never for FF2 or anything.  But hello!  :d

And ahhhh, that makes a lot more sense.  Good.  xD

The tower has been quite annoying, With a lot of area effect attacks (Blaze, wow.  Brutally fast script on it, too), my cover technique has been next to useless..  But I've made it so far, just lost Yang and heading down.

hmm, funny then, cause just last week, i was telling someone who started playing through ff2ht to come here. now, here you are at roughly the same point he should be by now.

btw, i don't know if you noticed, but deathlike has a semi-walkthrough for this game in another thread.

also, if you're looking for a bit more challenge, i was saying in my thread that i played through this at 225fps, with the battles set to active and the standard speed.  it definitely makes you think on your feet.    :cycle:

Haha, what a coincidence..   :scared:

Hmm.  That's definitely an interesting idea.. I don't know if my thingy would successfully run well at 225, and wouldn't it be hard to pick spells?  xD

Anyway, I'm out of the tower, and out of the underground.. thanks Cid!  Just raided the castle of Eblan, and Kain is enjoying his new wep...

Enjoy it, you'll be using it for a long time! Jce srsly powered it up.

As for the spells at 225fps, that's part of the challenge! You need to be quick and accurate.

This won't work on at least one enemy, and you will get the game over when you realize too late.

Awsome, I love reading about people's playthroughs and getting new tips!  Maybe I need to let more monsters do "area" spells to couteract Cover's effectiveness.

Haha.  It's already happened to me on the Chimaera's.  One blaze KO'd half my party, and I freaked out.  xD

But I always go into bosses and alerts full HP, cause they more often have spells.
I just remembered an overabundance of enemies in FF2 used only physical, and Cecil has cover.  So... a vast majority of dungeons have just been hold Tab and Attack down at the same time, breeze through it.

Just got Edge, he's just stealing over and over again.  Bomb enemies are annoying, but shiva and an autoattack from all of my fighters puts em to rest pre-explode.  Lamia guys with charm are annoying too, another enemy that breaks my cover tech.  :s  This is going to happen more and more, I'm sure.  Up to the room with a rest spot, atm.

Side-note;  Are all these enemies 'supposed' to give X-potions?? I have like over 50.  Lol.

 :edit:
Medusa arrows are stupid amazing.  Rosa is one of my secret-weapons.

Whee, smashed Rubicant (Tried stealing a good 70 times, failed failed failed failed failed gave up and killed him), but burned through most of my phoenix downs while toying with him (Lol), so I finished the tower with 0 left.  I used Cecil/Rosa and tinctures to keep people alive.. Lol.

Stole the new airship, and moving on.

Got my second airship, got it to fly more better.. just made the mistake of trying the summoner's cave, the ghosts stopped me dead in my tracks.. I can't dish enough damage to ignore the count yet, so I'll come back to that a bit later... No rush.  Off to the sealed cave.

 :edit:
I'm dumb, that wasn't the monster's cave.. it was the green place.  Forgot it's significance.. -.-

 :edit: :edit:
I found the monsters cave.. the arachnid enemy immediately shattered cover technique, but when every single one of my party members but Kain died, and I didn't feel like healing them, I decided to test just how broken the blood spear really is.. going through the cave with Kain only.

 :edit: :edit: :edit:
Well.  Yeah.  It's broken all right.  Kain made quick work of every enemy in the cave, whether it was spider, gargoyle, paladin, or even XT... Now in the summoned monster town.

Asura dies to a simple wall trick, Leviathan dies to 'jump' spam.  Onto the green tiled place, now that I have a bangin' summon.   :banonsmash:
