FF4 - J2Evisceration
« on: April 05, 2016, 04:20:13 PM »
http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2623/

I took a pass at this a couple days ago. It is so named because it cuts a lot of stuff out, particularly any form of inappropriate language, but it makes other changes as well, such as converting "Cafe" to "Pub" and "Gravitation" to "Magnetism."

Also, the pop culture references are mostly gone...Palom's line about William Shatner particularly.

This now resembles a legitimate script for FF4, if I do say so myself. With respect to those involved with J2e, who did some killer and pioneering work in the field when they made their version, I have shall we say, improved it.

Or not. I dunno, I guess it's all a matter of opinion.

I hope somebody gets their kicks from it, at any rate.

Woah, I'll have to check this out later on when after I'm done testing my project for the day. I remember trying to play that J2E translation yeaaaars ago, but I couldn't really get into it at the time mostly because of it's SUPER HUGE FONT haha.

I'm not sure whether or not you'd be interested in this, but awhile back I did some graphic changes to Palom and Porom's NPC sprites so they look more like children instead of Fat Velmas a while back. If you'd like to use them I'd be happy to share.

I update my graphics thread on almost a daily basis, so keep an eye out for new stuff!

Yang looks like a Curloid (that's a monster from the first Ys game). Was this intentional? Why's he blue?

LMFAO don't mind Yang, I just threw up a screenshot of my project to show the edits to the twins.

But yes, it's intentional. At least for the moment. My friend (also currently my only play tester) saw Yang for the first time and asked me why I had a sneezing genie in my party during the part of the event on Mt.Hobs where Yang's NPC  is taking out the hooded monsters with his spinjump-fu. So I turned him blue, gave him MP, and a tweaked Recall command named Wish for my own entertainment.

Some point down the line I plan on giving him a brown skin tone instead, so I can still distinguish his NPC's chest from his pants.

Hey, is this really supposed to be applied to the v1.0 Japanese ROM as the hash data indicates?  That seems weird to me because the original J2E patch used the v1.1 Japanese ROM.

The J2E Translations of Final Fantasy IV may be just as retarded as the Amercian version, but I'll give them credit for making the very first Final Fantasy IV romhack.

Uh...I dunno?

I've had probably the worst real life stuff go down since posting this. I dunno. Does that work? Or shouldn't it?

I am too mentally slow right now to even know where to start, I'm sorry.  :isuck:

Yikes!  Sorry to hear about the real life troubles.

I applied the patch to both the 1.0 and 1.1 versions of the ROM and both seem to load correctly using the bsnes compatibility core in RetroArch.  So perhaps they both will work?  I'm going to stick with 1.1 for now since the original J2E patch was based on that version.
