I have to make sure it uses an ATX power supply first.  I'm obviously going to want to replace it once I figure that out.

Old news to me.  When I found the first set of "secret chests" back in the old days I litererally "pushed" every walkable wall.  At least it provided HUGE replay value to the game back then.    *edit*That's how I found the Change Rod, pushing all the walls.

Certainly expanding the content of the game is what I was thinking of, and bringing it online would eliminate all those pesky things like memory constraints, worrying about what goes where and that damn compression, however I wasn't really thinking of actually making that new content (probably some though). The main bulk of the content I was thinking could be generated by users given the right development tools. Probably there would have to be some sort of process of approving a new quests based on quality and whether or not they seem to really advance or deepen the story line. Interaction between players would be tricky considering the style of game play, but allowing things like trading, chatting, fighting and stuff when you bump into other people would be really cool.

I don't know, I guess I'll start working on it. The first step I suppose is to pre-render the graphics, loading maps, and get basic animations (walking, background movements and stuff) working. If anyone is interested in helping out with anything,  just let me know.

I guess I need to see what you're talking about to fully understand it.

Do you think I should get a USB HDD enclosure with its own A/C power adaptor?  That might reduce the power consumption?  I'll have to look up how much juice the 6200 uses...I would imagine quite alot.

I have this video card almost exactly (infact I think it is the same exact card):
http://cgi.ebay.com/*NIB*-EVGA-e-GeForce-FX-6200-AGP-graphic-Card-_W0QQitemZ320263412371QQcmdZViewItem?IMSfp=TL0806141567r30774

It says it requires only a 200w PSU so I think I'm going to be ok.  Now, how much juice are the HDDs using?  They are both Seagates.

hey, so i found a translation of the ffiv Settei Shiryou Shuu, an ultimania-like book about ffiv.  the website is here, in case anyone hasn't seen it:

Interesting reading.

I've long sold off my Dell Precision 530 dual XEON server and I'm using a borrowed computer which is a Sempron that gets mega hot very quickly (151ºF).

So I bought this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330242399811&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=014

I'm just worried that my 2 large hdds (200GB & 400GB), Creative Audigy2, and GeForce 6200 can cope with the stock 240w power supply.  *cringes*  I wonder if it would be better to use one hdd and grab an enclosure that has a A/C plug for the other hdd.

FF3us/FF6 MMORPG?  Interesting...

Here are a few things that might have to be done to provide replay value.  Since I myself have had extensive experience playing online RPGs this should be easy to develop in terms of getting the content for the player(s).

 • Raise the max level from 99 to well over 200
 • Add tons of NPCs that have quests or miniquests for the player to do for extra EXP/GP/items/etc
 • Double, triple, or quadruple the items in the game
 • AT LEAST double the Espers--which would automatically increase the story and things to do
 • New spells in addition to the original
 • New characters out the yingyang--possibly just create a butt-ton of "classes" for the player to choose from
 • More than triple the monsters
 • More than triple the overworld size
 • Add a whole ton more towns, dungeons/caves, castles, and general areas for the player to goto
 • Setup a certain "story" paths for the character to choose from that the character could take
 • Give the ability to interact with other people, including but not limited to trading, talking, party fighting, etc
 • Randomize a few things for each character to keep some content "fresh"

Those are just some ideas...

Very interesting.  That's how they imported RS1 and RS2's music to that RS3 hack.  Makes me at least feel good that I did it the old fashioned way--with a hex editor.  :p
those "unknown" relic items are kinda neat. so far, just terra and celes can equip them. i assume strago and relm will be able to, as well?(maybe) i made sure to steal 4 from the ice rider(?) do they boost magic like earrings(which i hope are still in the game)? or are the earrings around to do that, and the unknown item just boosts stats and is stackable?

There is an unidentified relic, is that what you're talking about?  If so it does quite a few things...

:omg:  binford 6100? i used to love that show when i was a kid! i still get to see it on nick at nite on occasion.
That show was on the ine background when I was naming that item--so I said what the hell.

Quote
so i just took a trip up north of kholingen(sp?) to the guy-who-wants-to-build-the-colisseum's house...
are there still hero rings in this game, but not in the same spots? or did you get rid of them all? all i got in the pot was a "learn remedy" spell-relic.

There is a Hero Ring yes.

neat little idea there with the ultimate armor foreshadowing at owzer's  :)
Quote
also, does the lucky ring make you attack 4 times? i'm trying to pin down why locke is doing it, but i can't seem to decide. it's either that or the agile knife. (i think...)

btw, i LOVE the fact that guy/locke is stealing 4 times per turn now. it's pretty amazing.

Neither the Lucky Ring nor Agile Knight makes you attack 4x.  Its another piece of equipment.   :cycle:
last time i edit before . i'm trying to keep my levels low, but it's really difficult, considering how quickly i seem to gain them. i'm not walking around trying to level at all, and my guys are between lv. 18 and 20, and i'm just beginning to walk around zozo.  i've started to run from battles in zozo, so i don't get too strong. aside from the usual esper bonuses later on, is there any real reason to keep them low, jce? because, between the lucky rings i keep winning from the "slut" monsters, and powerful equipment, and the speedy level gains, it's not so much a hardtype as a very much "new' game. also, it seems like quite a few monsters have regen status, which is neat.

Low, or high, I can't remember what they should be around that part of the game.  I know the leveling gets much faster in a little bit for you--but so does the difficulty.

Quote
that guy at the top of the stairs in zozo...  WOW, what a fight! now that's a high quality piece of hacking! took me 2 tries to beat him, but i had to run through all my x-potions, etc etc.  outside of that, can you explain how espers work now?  i was fooling around with them, but i don't quite get how it works. they don't teach anything anymore?

Espers are summons now, no magic is learned from them.
