Freaking health...
« on: December 28, 2007, 05:03:06 PM »
A week before Thanksgiving, I went to the doctor to get my eyes checked out. It's the same problem that has been around for 3 or 4 years now (I even posted about it at ZD's diaries a couple of years ago). Well, the bill just arrived today. The cover charge just to get an appointment was $50. The rest of it is $61. Yeah, $111 for a doctor visit. The last time, I went to the trauma center (this was in 2005, paid $100 up front cause I knew it would be bad), and the final bill was about $130 (that doesn't include the $60 spent on prescriptions either).

So yeah, not having insurance sucks. Word of advise, if you don't have health insurance, don't get sick.

What problem?

as for health, don't get me started. I am genetically fucked over. I can't work, and I spend most of my time in constant pain.

What problem?
It started back sometime in 2002, my eyes just suddenly got extremely swelled. Then it keeps coming and going, but if it gets really bad (my eyelids get heavy, big, and red) then it usually lasts for about a week or so. My eyesight wasn't being affected by it, so I saw no reason to spend outrageous amounts of money to maybe fix it (and as it turns out, it's 0-2 on curing the problem).

If you do get insurance, try to get a low deductible.  I'm out $1600 thanks to a bout of food poisoning (I think I had some bad wings at Buffalo Wild Wings), since my deductible for hospital visits was $1500.

Speaking of heath issues...

I have an upper resperatory infection along with bronchitis.  And on top of that lacking medical insurance means I'm having to rely on over-the-counter meds.

And even on top of that lacking medical insurance means I desperately need to goto the dentish and eye doctor.  I've been wearing the same decrepid "broken" glasses for like 14 years, and my eye sight isn't getting any better.  On the teeth front I haven't had my teeth cleaned in 15~16 years...

I can't, Nyquil has aspirin in it and I'm allergic to it.

I'm allergic to Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, and Naproxen.  Which as you may not know at least one of these four are in just about every type of medication out there.

goddamnit.  what do you do in the event of a headache?  tough it out, or get a morphine drip?

I deal with it.  This has given me a large pain tolerance.  Pain and discomfort are all mental anyway.  Infact I take showes with the knob all the way to "H"--and that pisses my roomates off because sometimes they forget to check where the knob is and they get burned.

what the fuck?!  2nd degree burns certainly aren't "all mental".  are you sure your aforementioned eczema isn't actually a scalding?  anyway, kudos on pointlessly enduring those showers.  you could teach martial arts in a remote location in an Asian country, if you so chose.

It wasn't eczema, I actually found out that my multi-vitamins were causing the odd skin iritations.   :lame:

I'd go insane if I couldn't taken Ibuprofen... My mom too.

Have you tried Dayquil?

All of the "quil" stuff has the same ingredients minus the sleep aid.
