wait, do espers still teach magic now, but it's invisible? celes has learned a couple spells after battles, that i never knew about.

edit: there's a post at the bottom of the last page also, jce, just in case you don't go back to look. :)
those "unknown" relic items are kinda neat. so far, just terra and celes can equip them. i assume strago and relm will be able to, as well?(maybe) i made sure to steal 4 from the ice rider(?) do they boost magic like earrings(which i hope are still in the game)? or are the earrings around to do that, and the unknown item just boosts stats and is stackable?

There is an unidentified relic, is that what you're talking about?  If so it does quite a few things...
Quote
:omg:  binford 6100? i used to love that show when i was a kid! i still get to see it on nick at nite on occasion.
That show was on the ine background when I was naming that item--so I said what the hell.

Quote
so i just took a trip up north of kholingen(sp?) to the guy-who-wants-to-build-the-colisseum's house...
are there still hero rings in this game, but not in the same spots? or did you get rid of them all? all i got in the pot was a "learn remedy" spell-relic.

There is a Hero Ring yes.

neat little idea there with the ultimate armor foreshadowing at owzer's  :)
Quote
also, does the lucky ring make you attack 4 times? i'm trying to pin down why locke is doing it, but i can't seem to decide. it's either that or the agile knife. (i think...)

btw, i LOVE the fact that guy/locke is stealing 4 times per turn now. it's pretty amazing.

Neither the Lucky Ring nor Agile Knight makes you attack 4x.  Its another piece of equipment.   :cycle:
Quote
last time i edit before . i'm trying to keep my levels low, but it's really difficult, considering how quickly i seem to gain them. i'm not walking around trying to level at all, and my guys are between lv. 18 and 20, and i'm just beginning to walk around zozo.  i've started to run from battles in zozo, so i don't get too strong. aside from the usual esper bonuses later on, is there any real reason to keep them low, jce? because, between the lucky rings i keep winning from the "slut" monsters, and powerful equipment, and the speedy level gains, it's not so much a hardtype as a very much "new' game. also, it seems like quite a few monsters have regen status, which is neat.

Low, or high, I can't remember what they should be around that part of the game.  I know the leveling gets much faster in a little bit for you--but so does the difficulty.

Quote
that guy at the top of the stairs in zozo...  WOW, what a fight! now that's a high quality piece of hacking! took me 2 tries to beat him, but i had to run through all my x-potions, etc etc.  outside of that, can you explain how espers work now?  i was fooling around with them, but i don't quite get how it works. they don't teach anything anymore?

Espers are summons now, no magic is learned from them.

ok, so i decided to start this up again.  i'm just heading into the cave at the sealed gate using the 1.3b  patch from last(?) week.

btw, why can imps use the "shock" attack? specifically, rod and james. after they get hit by imp song, only the blitz option greys out.

also, it's been awhile since i've played, but i've noticed that i have one "unidentified" relic(that teaches "attack") and i've met 2 different monsters called "unknown". are multiple monsters just called that?

Yes, not every monster has a name.   :blits:

ok, good, thanks. i didn't know if maybe that was some kind of strange problem with my rom, or what.

just grabbed the mystic sword, which has now made rod a beast.  he's doing twice as much damage(roughly 1300 vs. 550-600 for others) as everyone else, which is really boosted, due to the offering-characteristic of the ninja gear. anyway, just getting to the end of the cave right now.

 :edit:
and, with edgar's new sword, i totally pwned the 5-monster, 3-mage, group.  got 10ap and 3 x-elixirs.  now i'm really powered up. i think i'm gonna wait to go into vector and teach terra some spells.

one thing you may want to fix... i'm pulling 6 megalixirs per battle between locke stealing and monster drops.

PM me which battle so no one abuses it.  Megalixirs need to obviously be scarce.

JCE,
the uber monster that is mentioned having the most magic power on said continent (hint: same guy who mentions about the weak magic power of the monsters) has the auto-drop.

Plus, it's actually easy to kill them when set up properly.

shadow can equip ninja stars? what the hell? i equipped one with the ninja garb and used the fight command.  he threw 4 times for very little damage, but the star was not lost after battle, obv because i didn't choose "throw".

also, the dog-like monsters (baskervor?) near thamasa drop x-potions 100% of the time. bug or on purpose?

A lot of the drops tend to be a little insane, for whatever the reason.

As for Shadow, have you been paying attention to the character's raising their hands.. or at least looked into the individual item stats? FF3/6 was the first to have a reasonably expansive system for this purpose.

i have been.  i was expecting the ninja star  to be throwable only when locke stole it, as it was before. and yes, i pay constant attention to the stats. the ninja star was equipped, because when i got shadow back for thamasa i used the optimized option, wondering what his best equips were. the ninja star was equipped then.  obv, that got stuff got changed to more effective gear.

after chatting with jce over pm, i'd guess that the x-potion drops are another glitch, like the other monster.

another thought(just walked into thamasa and did some shopping!): it doesn't make sense to use the strength robe at all while the ninja robe is around. the strength robe is only a few point improvement on vigor, while the ninja robe provides offering-like effects, and pretty decent stats.

The properties of the Ninja Gear diminish over time while defense+magic defense+any evasion+any mblock bonuses+elemental bonuses tend to have a greater impact over time...

all i can say is compare them. i'm sitting here looking at the strength robe potentially on locke with the ninja gear already on.  it's a 2pt vigor increase, a 5pt def increase, and a 3pt mag def increase.

it's not worth buying.  i was just saying that the advantages of the ninja gear vs. the strength robe isn't enough to justify the purchase, so maybe he should ramp it up a bit.

not bad!

this was my last one.  you'll have to divide the time by roughly 4, due to the framerate.

snesgt seems to be very disagreeable towards screen caps..
