I'd root for the Blackhawks to win... I just don't like the other 3 teams (for various reasons, none of which are because of their skill).

 :bah: to Bruins choke.

I'm too disappointed in the Cubbies, since they don't seem to "get it"... having Zambrano goto the bullpen is the most INSANE move I've heard of.

The Red Sox bridge year talk doesn't seem so farfetched.. sweep the Jays but get swept by the Orioles... the awful Orioles at that. Sometimes I wonder...

The only team the Mets try to compare themselves to are the Yankees... unfortunately Johan Santana (formerly of the Twins) is just like the Mets... not clutch when it counts. Then again, a Grand Slam and 10 runs accounted for last night does make one wonder that the Twins perhaps literally stole from the Mets (again).

Game Modification Station / Re: New FF4 Hack Announcement

I was looking for some feedback, but I didn't get that.

Here's a quick list of notable spell list changes so far:

Rydia:
Removed Ice2, Fire2, Lit2 when she comes back, all three spells learned @ level 25
Comes back with Cure2, CureAll (very tweaked), HolyBeam (20MB, based off Heat Ray), DarkBlst (based off MomBomb's Explode) and usual summons

Rosa:
Removed Exit and comes back with Basuna (same effect as Unicorn Horn or Silver Staff)

Edge:
Removed starting Flame, and obtained spells Flood and Blitz, spells will be learned (not sure if that will work) at some level past the normal few spells he learns
Starts with Wave (monster version, since Blizzard = Icicles Item), CureAll (it won't be as good as Rydia's due to weak Wisdom), Black Hole, and Digest (to be renamed SmokeCloud)
Will learn Big Bang (same as Zeromus) and EvilFire (heavily tweaked Flamethrower) @ Rubicant event

Note: Both acquire spells will not be usable against bosses.

I am debating whether I should replace those with Whirlwind (Wind elemental) and Acid Storm (what Rubicant uses). Both will also be unusable for bosses.

FuSoYa:
Removed Exit, replaced with Black Hole
Removed level 1 elementals, replaced with Wave, Holy Beam, and Dark Blast
Removed level 2 elementals, replaced with elemental ninja magic

Thoughts?

The name is the last thing I'll work on.

Edit: BTW, if anyone has a save before Tellah meeting Edward scenario, that would be greatly appreciated. Since I know a bit more now that I did then, I was planning to redo that scenario a tad (even though I will change none of the script).

Alright.. my head hurts, but it's that time to revive this since I have the free time for it.

Does anyone have any notable feedback that I should take into account before I restart this?

A few things in the pipeline:

1) I was planning on changing a number of the starting spells/spell learning/spell learning through events.. specifically those of Rydia, Rosa, Edge, and FuSoYa.
These will be tweaks, but nothing notably significant. However, it should improve spell usefulness selection by far. Some suggestions based on the current spell list would be appreciated..

Rydia will have Ice-2, Lit-2, and Fire2 replaced with more spells replaced in the summons... which would probably include CureAll (the Cure staff's spell). The spells being replaced will be relearned @ level 25 (before Bio).

Rosa will have Exit replaced with Black Hole. Exit is covered by Cecil anyways, and sure it breaks the story spell scheme, but seriously... Cecil should have Exit before then with this hack.

Edge will have his prelearned and acquired spells replaced with... a much more interesting variety. He will still learn his basic ninja spells every 3-4 levels IIRC.
Spell list at the moment will include: HolyBeam, Wave (the "weaker" monster version) or Blizzard (the monster version), and AcidStorm.

FuSoYa will have primarily the same preset spells, except for the following...
Exit will be replaced by Black Hole. Reflect will be kept around (for now) despite Rosa having to learn the damned spell at level 99.
His level 2 elementals will be replaced by Edge's elemental Ninja spells.
His level 1 elementals will be replaced by Edge's new learned spell list that I've mentioned above.

2) I was thinking of putting in a Vampire Claw (changing the Charm/Fairy Claw attributes) or a Blood Knife (replacing the Mute Knife, but not necessarily removing the anti-Mage property). This is to address problems with Edge/Yang for self healing and some coolness. The weapon will have negative stat changes in accordance with the Blood/Drain weaponry that exists in this game. Good/bad idea?

3) Unfortunately, the original reason why this is being held us is because I got lazy in trying to document the codes (in a separate text file) that I reused. Rubicant has a terribly structured/useless series of codes for each player that uses a Fire elemental magic on him.. that's how I got the space to replace the bulk of them. However, the hack has essentially reached the point where I've reached Rubicant.. so that's kinda why I'm stuck there. Redoing Rubicant's attack script will be "fun".

General Discussion / Re: Gamefaqs + eternal stupidity

you're right there's several.  not sure if there are any beyond those..

the bottom line is, it doesn't matter whether the (Grab) Seize stops your ATB, eats your soul, or lights you on fire.  because the (Slow) Seize/Entwine is a prerequisite for ever being grabbed.  prevent Slow, and you prevent the whole thing.  so when this cretin rambles on about what happens to characters after they're grabbed, it's really moot.  besides missing 5 opportunities to procure RunningShoes in the WoB, he doesn't understand cause and effect.

there's enough of a lag between the Slowing and the grabbing for sane people to put 2+2 together.

his approach seems to be flinging crap at a dartboard and seeing what'll stick (so far, nothing).  as his argument always shifts:

- most players wouldn't have RunningShoes by then.
- most players wouldn't equip RunningShoes, even if they had them.
- even if you have RunningShoes and like them, there'd be no reason to equip them for this battle, because Seize/Entwine doesn't Slow characters.
- RunningShoes dominating that battle is a bug!!
- Meeple is 40 years old and has no friends!
- it hurts when trancer1 slaps me in the face!
- "i know people", and they wouldn't play the game like 90% of posters in the gamefaqs thread.
- etc, etc, etc.

"I know people" that are idiots. That's a reality!

Ribbon won't prevent Slow, iirc.  it does prevent Poison, but Wall Rings are even more effective for that battle.

i'm fairly defensively-oriented, so i equip Ribbons quite regularly.  the thought of even having an ailment affect me for 10 seconds in battle would drive me up a wall, particularly the ailments that incapacitate a character or take away your control of them.  and i'd find equipping+unequipping relics after battle to remove statuses to be too much of a chore.  i likewise am big on Marvel Shoes.  those and Ribbon were my most typical endgame setups.

woo, we have the same number of posts.

I've never liked Wall Rings because it would require a method to heal yourself through the status... not that FF3/FF6 was hard, but it was just a hassle.

now he's arguing that because the Tentacles use an attack called "Seize" to Slow your characters, you have no way of knowing that they're being Slowed.  seriously.

Only if you turned off the gauge bars where that "might" be true.. then again, you'd might as well call the moron blind or... just slow.

Seriously, reading people complain about something that they can't comprehend is sad...

I usually learn Air Blade by this time so I don't worry about this.

It's probably just a fun/stupid thing to do but to pull off the Sleep/Hold + Stop bug and take a picture of it all.

General Discussion / Re: NFL season (2009-2010), week 21 - playoffs?!
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:46:54 PM »
Well... it seems like the Eagles didn't have many options..

The biggest news was that there were Raiders rumors... the problem was the semi-obvious stipulation that McNabb agrees to play there. It would make no sense for the Raiders to drop everything if McNabb is not willing to play in the "Black Hole" that is Oakland.

It is also possible not many other teams were looking for a QB that is nearing the end of his prime. The Redskins are in need of a QB, so this would hold up as a stopgap solution... and Jason Campbell simply is not the answer... he was the "answer" for another coach, but Gibbs retired of course.

Unless there were other teams named.. they didn't think much of McNabb and/or McNabb didn't want to be there. This sets up for a legitimate interest in the NFC East, which had the lol team known as the Redskins (though, it's still an overrated division IMO).

An early 2nd and next year's 3rd round pick isn't bad... given the current market.

Haven't had one of these in a while. Someone is complaining about how hard the beginning of the WoR is in FF6. In reality it really is pretty tough, unless you know the uber cheese strategies to make everything nigh-useless.

However, after being confronted with this info, the thread has since erupted into a giant argument. This one might last a while.

We have reached the generation that doesn't really think outside the box. This is a sad commentary on reality folks.

I would prefer people to ooh and aah over something different that they haven't thought of, instead of saying "nope, wouldn't bother thinking about it at all". That separates the clueless/casual from the real gamers. A game is only as hard as relative to what you know, but if you don't actually use a brain to connect the dots, everything seems impossibly hard.

BTW, Bio Blaster is monstrously easy to abuse even with the lack of learning Bio.

I never had to use RunningShoes on the Tentacles... that would've been too easy.

BTW, Drainer+Atmaweapon is great for most of initial few areas with Celes (minus Darryl's Tomb for obvious reasons). I hate the Morning Star suggestion because I like having Runic available and that combo is still pretty useful at this point in the game.

Seriously, Mt. Zozo is like the first legit place I goto (other than making a side trip to get Bum Rush), and that place is still a joke for the most part. The most natural inclination is to go there first, especially with the kinds of drops that are there.

Anyways, the op is a total moron. I can understand legit gripes, but there are many easy monsters in the Magitek Factory once you realize physical attacks are usually not the ideal option. It is the incentive to learn magic and not beat your head against a wall when the first attack fails. Plus, Meeple is wrong about Bolt on Flan.. they are immune to ice, but are weak vs Fire+Lightning (hint: The Blizzard Sword sucks at this stage of the game!).

Note: I found that making Locke learn Kirin (for Cure2) early on is worth it at this point in the game... (especially with what goes on down the road)....
