I just can't get hooked on this.  I prefer the original sadly.  I don't feel like playing through multiple New Game+'s just to get augments or whatnot.  I'd rather go back to playing the SFC/SNES version.

Me neither. In fact, I still haven't finished it the first time! I think the only reason I'm forcing myself to do so is to be able to say I finished it.

I much prefer Advance. The character changing concept alone just added so much to the game, plus the extra dungeons and equipment were so fun and refreshing. The DS version on the other hand had the difficulty ramped up way too high for my tastes; and while the augment thing was interesting insofar as it was kinda cool to see some new commands, it just didn't add enough to compensate for the ugly 3D graphics.
Let's dance!

definitely not just you.  i'm still at the beginning of the second playthrough and i bought it last july.

:edit:
yeah, now that you mention it, i'm preferable toward the advance version myself. i really liked the added content. on the other hand, i'm really not a fan of the augments in the ds version. that and the game just seemed to move very slowly to me.  i mean, i know i play all of my rpgs on pretty high speeds when i'm emulating, so maybe my perspective is warped, but the game just seems annoyingly slow in  general.  for me, the heightened difficulty was one of the good points.

Feel the exact same way, I didn't even bother beating it once.

I bought it like almost 3 months ago and I just now opened the package for the first time.     Now if you'll excuse me Romancing SaGa awaits.   :cycle:

Romancing SaGa is a great game...though I prefer the SNES version over the PS version (even though it's all in Japanese)

It is a great game, and has the addiction factor which I look for.  I can't get into the SFC RS games unless they are translated.  And now since I do not have a notebook I cannot play any emulators anymore.

I could make a ridiculously long list of things I didn't like about FF4DS, but the fact is that overall I enjoyed it, and am working on my third playthrough after taking a fairly long break. I played through the Japanese version twice, and the US version about three times. The game really picks up once you start collecting the more powerful augments and making an unstoppable party, the game was definitely rebalanced around the augment system.

I do have to say I wish they left more of the original gameplay intact, though. The After Years proves that they still know how to create a new game that feels like FF4. I wonder if FF4a is the very reason why they made so many changes to FF4DS, they had to make it feel fresh to get people who just bought the game to buy it again, after all. The amusing thing is that some of the original FF4 developers were involved in this, whereas the GBA port had no involvement from them.

well I played the game only once and completely ignored the Augment system  :childish:
I also didn't like the new character design (e.g., that "sexy" Rosa is way less preferable than the 2D version in FF4A)  :celosa:. However the game is still enjoyable.

still though, I think the Augment system has make the characters somewhat customizable, which may satisfy those who prefer high customizable systems like FF7/8.
