I'm not a huge fan of the games, I don't even own the full versions, but it's pretty cool that so many Doom ports will be able to add support for them now. :cycle:

I've heard quite a bit of issues with some of the ports (prior to this release) so it's a nice welcomed change.

Now only if the Strife one was released as well.

Looks like GZDoom might be getting GPL'd as a result:

You know, I've never actually played Strife before...

* Dragonsbrethren adds that to his list of things to try some day.

It was pretty cool for the last incarnation of the Doom engine (then again, Chex Quest is comparatively lame, I don't remember where in the timeline where Chex Quest was made...). I actually paid for it (yes, that sounds strange for some people) and it was pretty fun. By today's standards, it's lame, but given that the system allows you to talk to NPCs and the like, you may be a little surprised. Oh yea, and the voices were pretty good (it is the biggest file of the whole damn game).

I downloaded the Strife demo right after you made your post, then promptly forgot about it until today. Played it for a bit, it seems fun so far but a lot harder than I was expecting, I got killed in the Sanctuary. The voice acting is nice and I like being able to talk to people, makes me wonder what Doom would've been like with this kind of interaction. I'll probably start over on a lower difficulty the next time I play, until I know where I'm going and how the enemies behave.

As for Chex Quest, I gave that a try because of the release of part 3...the enemies' sound effects crack me up but other than that it's not anything special.

You should be able to find the full version at some abandonware sites...

Anyways, the full version will be a bit different than the demo (at least intro-wise... funny enough, the demo levels are at the end of the full version's WAD files, not normally accessible w/o cheating)... the basic premise is still the same.

The voices are really worth your time...
