Zelda II - The Forgotten Adventure (A Hack of Battle of Olympus for the Nintendo Entertainment System)
By: Kabucho
Hey guys. I've been out of the ROM hacking scene for awhile now. After playing Battle of Olympus for a couple of minutes, I had realized how cool it would be to hack it into a sequel for Zelda II - The Adventure of Link. Both games play fairly similar. I had also noticed no one has hacked Battle of Olympus yet (atleast to my knowledge/research.)
I haven't a clue how all the ideas started coming into play. Many things started popping into my head. This is just a short list of what can/could be done in the game that could make it a legitimate sequel.
What Can Be Done (That I Know Of)
- First off, Link and the hero of Battle of Olympus are the same size. So implementing Link into the game would not be a problem.
- Some of the enemies can be hacked to look like enemies from Zelda II.
- The names of the towns can be changed into the names of towns from Zelda II.
- A lot of the weapons could be changed into new weapons for the game. For this, I'll have to do my research. I would like to make new weapons if Link did not get a new weapon in Zelda II. I could always go with the Master Sword and what not. I think you get a total of four different weapons in Battle of Olympus.
- The mini-ambrosia could be changed into hearts, and big ambrosia could be changed into big hearts.
- The life-meter could be changed to resemble hearts.
[Wait a minute.. Zelda II did not have hearts.... I forgot what it was. I remember the life-meter was some rectangular thing.]
What Could Be Done (Definitely Not With Any Skills I Possess Now)
- The map in Battle of Olympus could be rearranged so that it is similar to the overworld map of Zelda II. You don't walk around the overworld map in Battle of Olympus.
- Enemy sizes could be changed to fit enemy tilesets from Zelda II.
- It would be awesome to implement music from Zelda II into Battle of Olympus.
- OK... let's make this list kind of short, because I could think of many things. I would try to make it as much like Zelda as I possibly could.
I know this is a pipe dream. My credentials as a ROM hacker are shot because I haven't been around long enough/made any recent hacks/finished any hack that I have started. This would definitely have to be a group project. I can do minor things like ripping graphics and what not and setting them into the game. I know a little about HEX. I can even change palettes (it'd take me a sec to learn again.) I know nothing about ASM or anything like that. Let me know what you guys think of this project.
