Several Odd Bugs I'm Experiencing..
« on: May 09, 2015, 01:48:56 PM »
During the last week or so I've been going through and doing a speed run of my project to make absolutely sure that it is fully finishable from beginning to end without any major game-breaking errors due to my setup of mods. For the most part, it is, but unfortunately I've come across a few  minor bugs and one major issue, so I figured it would be best to ask about these errors and see if anyone esle has come across certain issues such as these, or could share any kind of information or theory as to what may be going on.

As for my setup of mod, I am using the following (patched in this order).

(add header)
Chillyfeez's User options 2.2 + B button Dashing
(remove header)
Grimwoire LD's Magic Weapons
Grimwoire LD's Imbued Weapons
(add header)
Chillyfeez's Shadow Mod
User Options + Shadow Mod Compatability Patch

Here are the bugs/general oddity's I'm experiencing.

Oddity 1: I found that after getting Paladin Cecil and saving, the HP section of the save slot with Paladin Cecil reads 0/0, or if there is a file with Dark Knight Cecil in the party, it displays the HP from that file instead.

Oddity 2: For some odd reason, The "Small Dock" background used in the "Airship Docked"  map displays 3 tiles to the right (although it seems it's the graphics and not the tiles themselves, seeing the characters still walk around as if everything was normal). For most of the few events using this map, it looks a bit funky but doesn't seem to affect the game's progression. The    event in which Cid attaches to the drill to the Falcon, however, pretty much falls apart at the point that this map is loaded, but taking out the chunk of the event that  loads the map and the parts with Cid running around it allows the event to play out.

Oddity 3: For some other odd reason, the "Dwarf Tank" map has the same issue as the "Airship Docked" map, with the map displaying 3 tiles to the right while the characters/NPCs are uneffected. It doesn't seem to break the events it is used for, it just looks weird.

Oddity(?) 4: When walking on the Moon's overworld and poisoned, the pixelation effect doesn't occur. I'm not enritrely sure if that's a bug, or if that effect is just normally disabled when on the Moon. Though running around while poisoned but without the screen effect makes me ponder the feasiblity of step sounds  purely out of curiousity.

Oddity 5: After getting past the Giant of Babil and returning to the Moon with Kain in the party, the game crashed when I  opened the menu while on the Moon's overworld. This was after  just being in the Huumingway's Cave, and going into the menu multiple times (while still in the Hummingway map). This also corrupted my save file, making this one doozy of a bug. I have a feeling that Oddity 1 and possibly Oddity 4 are playing a part in this occurance, but that is going off of a hunch.

Any sort of info/theories on these would be immensely appreciated!

1) this is related to the fact that I changed the hex ID of Paladin Cecil. Grimoire knows the fix for this, and it shouldn't be related to anything else.

2 & 3) while I don't doubt that these have to do with one or several of the mods you've applied, I'm clueless as to which one, and I don't know if there's a real easy fix (moving every tile in the maps over by three spaces in FF4kster should work, but will be a bit of a PITA).

4) Don't know. Doesn't seem like something that would be a side effect of one of the mods, but who knows? It might be something as simple as the game just checking for the wrong status for pixelation. Try applying each status to a character, one at a time, and see if anything causes the pixelation effect. Also, does the HP loss still occur? I'm 99% that the pixelation should occur on the moon.

5) ???? I'm not sure I quite understand the circumstances under which this occurred (not that it would really help me know what happened...) Do you mean you were in the Hummingway cave and you pressed x,b,x,b,x,b,x,b... And eventually it crashed? Can you reproduce the bug, and if so, can you reproduce it under other circumstances (on other maps and on that map at different points in the game)?

Haha I began to think that was the case once I saved the game after getting Cid, and noticed it was his HP being shown at the Save menu, which explains why it's 0/0HP whenever he isn't in the party, or it deters to the closest save file with a Dark Knight saved to it. Glad to know there's a fix for it!

Hmm, with that in mind I might do just that (moving the map tiles 3 tiles over) or recreate them the best I can using a screenshots + trigger/map info as guidelines.

Ahh, I'll to check that out! Luckily I have savestates on the build I was playing near to this spot. Also, I didn't check to see if the HP still occurred, as I think I was amped for going through the Giant and didn't think about it at the time.

I'll do a step by of what I was doing at the time.

!: Beat the CPU in the Giant, got Kain back and ended up on the Moon after the event ended.

2: Flew to the Hummingway Cave and bought some items

3: Opened the menu and used a Whistle, then out of curiousty counted up the number of slots usable in the Fat Chocobo's Cache (I counted 128-130 slots, give or take a few). Being that the cache was almost full, and I've takinn the Trash Can out the Item List I figure it was good to see how much  space a player would have in there.

4: I step out of Hummingway cave, now back on the Moon's Overworld. I open my menu, but the menu doesn't show. The screen stays black until I decide to reset.

5: I press A at the Title screen, it goes to load the save file screen, but the screen stay's black. The save file is now somehow corrupted.

It's as if the Menu was looking for something before opening, did not find what is was looking for, and said "Aaaand it's gone...." haha.

And with that, I'm off to do some testing!

Well, oftentimes a crash will erase the first save slot. I don't know exactly why it happens, but that's not just your crash, it's most crashes.
I'd still be interested in seeing if you can recreate the crash, and if you can do so under nonidentical circumstances...

I tested out the poison effect on the Moon, and it works as intended off Snesx9 on PC, but the pixelation effect doesn't happen when played off PSP.  I think this one might just thankfully be an emulator issue.

As for the Kain crash, I'm going to test it on PC and PSP, and see if perhaps that too is an issue that's isolated to just the PSP emulator.
