Weapon Swing Animations Usable for Spells/Skills?
« on: June 15, 2015, 01:25:21 PM »
I was wondering if it is possible to use the Weapon Swing animations  for some created skils.  I have a feeling it would take some info gathering to make this happen, so I thought I'd ask here.

Why would I want to do this? Well, basically I'm trying to make a new Sword type that randomly uses the arrow-shooting animation as a skill via Grimoire LD's MAgic Weapons mod.

Any info at all on this matter would be immense help to me.
I update my graphics thread on almost a daily basis, so keep an eye out for new stuff!

So, if I understand correctly, you want it to use a normal sword swing by default, but if its special whatever triggers, then it uses a bow and arrow animation instead?

This is a relatively unexplored area. The only information on this is in regards to the Enemy AI weaponry, but if that is dug into a little further one should be able to manipulate this, but it would require a fully unique and new routine. Weapon Swing is just literally a weapon swing C0.

Yes. The weapon would use the normal sword swing, and would be set up to cast the "Shoot" spell as an item. Setting the casting power on the weapon to 0, it would only be triggered randomly while attacking through the Magic Weapons mod.

The "Shoot" spell would use the graphics/sequence of the arrow, in theory. So when the spell is triggered during battle, the character would swing thier weapon, then a projectile is shot at the enemy (in this case a bullet, as I plan on editing the arrow graphic some time in the near future)

That sounds like some great info! I'll start looking through it, since I'm quite curious about how the Weapon Graphics are used in general. At some point I plan on using the chakram and shuriken graphics for new weapons, so this would be a great place to start hunting for info! (I've already replaced the boomerang with the hammer, so Cid could have a long-range weapon straight out of an R.A. Salvatore novel hehe)

Grimoie LD: Having gone through the weapon graphics it's kind of ridiculous how much space was wasted on Edge's throwing and thrown weapons, I honestly think we could replace some of them to have more weapon graphics to use.

I wholeheartedly agree, lol.
