How to play music/sfx from the game?
« on: August 16, 2013, 12:11:09 PM »
This one may be a little more ambitious, but it it's not unreasonably difficult I think it would be great to have a music and/or sound effect preview feature in FF4kster. Basically, whenever you have a song or sound effect selected, you hit a key, say space for example, and it will play that sound effect or start playing that music (hit space again or exit the menu to stop / sfx would only be played once, not looped).

Anyway, is there any documentation someone can point me to on how to interpret the music and sound effect data?

Here's my thread on hacking the music, which breaks down most of the music assembly (certainly enough to write new songs, and interpret existing ones, anyway)

I'd love a program that would function as a midi composer, but then inserted users' musical creations into the game. Something like that may be way too involved to be an add on feature of FF4kster, though.

I don't know where the sound effects are stored, but the musical "sound effects," such as the tent music and "surprise," are actually songs.
