Gogo/Brush Patch v0.6 - I'm an impatient little bastard
« on: October 11, 2009, 01:24:37 PM »
:omg: A new version after three years? It's more likely than you'd think.

This is a new version of the old "Gogo/Brush" patch, which allowed Gogo to equip all brushes and the beret. This patch was made exclusively for use with assassin17's "Brushless Sketch" logic error fix.

Aside from changing the name of the thing to "The Sketching Mime", all I did was use Lord J's FFIIIusME v6.50 to update the patches, and the readme has been touched up a lot.

The patch is attached.

 :edit:
Also, as I said before, there should be no major changes to this patch aside from version number and file renaming, but if anyone disagrees, please feel free to elaborate!

to be sure, the .IPS files are identical to the old ones.  still, i don't scoff at documentation updates (i've done plenty for my own patches.)  i'll upload the new patch archive to my website in the next few days or so.

EDIT: ah, i see you already said as much in the other thread:

I highly doubt that there's any change between the versions, readme and name aside.

EDIT2: the patch went from version 0.05 to 0.6.  was the decimal point shift intentional? :P  i don't expect there to be any hard-and-fast reasoning behind version numbers; just curious.

I like it better as 0.6--that's all.

Also, I'd be grateful if you changed the author's name to my most recent username, vivify93. GameFAQs is really the only place I still go as 51793Moeman, and that's only 'cause the morons don't trust you if you don't have over 9000 karma.

 :edit:
Oh, totally forgot this; thank you very much for hosting this li'l patch for all these years.

That's why it's a horrible joke.

ok, 25 hours. :/  a quick question on your updated Readme, which i am using to update the patch's website description:

version 0.05's Readme description ended with:
Quote
Like it was stated in the readme, he made "a[n almost] useless ability even less desirable".  It's not really a "fix", per se.

based on context, i leaned toward taking that second sentence to refer to my patch, since i had said i couldn't conclusively call brushless sketching "a bug" (more of a "logical error").

now your Readme is rearranged, and opens with:
Quote
This isn't really a "fix", per se; assassin17 of the Final Fantasy VI hacking community made a patch titled "Brushless Sketch Fix", which required his "Auto-Swordless Runic" fix.

since there's nothing proceeding "This", i take the first clause to refer to your patch, rather than mine.  which makes me think the assumption i'd made since early 2006 was wrong. :)  so to be sure: which patch "isn't really a 'fix', per se"?  it could be mine, for previously stated reason; or it could be yours, since the issue it resolves doesn't occur in the original game.

sorry to nitpick.  just wanted to be clear on this before doing the website updates, so i don't have to change anything again afterwards.

thanks.

Ugh, sorry about that delay.

Anyhow, the "not a fix per se" line was meant to refer to "The Sketching Mime", or then the "Gogo/Brush Patch", since I originally "marketed" my patch as a fix. The sentence is not really needed now...but I know that some young, foolish child such as I was then will download it when he finds out about ROM hacking and bug fix patches, so it may as well stay.

tl;dr -- yes, the "This isn't really a "fix", per se; ..." line refers to my patch, "The Sketching Mime".

I meant that I was sorry for my delay in responding to your post.

oh, but that was only 3 hours, which was very good.  my "ok, 25 hours. :/" comment was in response to my promise in the Slick News topic to have the new patch uploaded "within 24 hours"..  as i ran past that self-imposed time limit, i figured i'd extend it by an hour.
