Graphics engine, probably.

Battle engine, unlikely.

It beats me, I could care less to be honest. It probably shouldn't be a VWF though, unless you have bigger ideas with this.

Drain/Osmose seem to ignore the elemental attribute of the spell when dealing damage... which is interesting.

does the cpu still have the same amount of hp? or is it higher?

Probably a little higher

i'm strategizing this time.  everyone but xlom is hasted twice(do haste and slow work on more than one casting, or is one it? also, they last for the duration of the fight, correct?). the healing module is slowed twice.  i've also got fog casted now. (i take it that that's blink's equivalent here.)

Haste+Slow at works best when cast twice.. though Slow has a greater impact though.

Quote
by the way, what's the difference between rage and berserk? anything? does rage boost atk more?

They do the same thing, except one is self-inflicted and the other allows you to target others.

Quote
edit again: rage is a full party spell? rosa casts it on everyone, but edge only casts it on himself. odd.

It's intentional, especially when you consider the MP consumed.

also, if cain comes back with a dragon spear, why did you give me a second in the giant? granted cecil could equip it, but he already had the falchion and excalibur.  is it for people who don't get those?

I think the question "Why not?" suffices. You do know that he can equip whatever Kain can right?

hey, i just stumbled onto an untranslated name. there's a "searcher"-type enemy in bahamut's cave.  when i encountered it, it's name was still in japanese.  just thought i'd let you know, just in case.

Intentional.. just enjoy it as is.

Quote
edit: just found a possible bug.  the genji gauntlet(glove?) chest in bahamut's cave has a problem.  i lost to the pair of sorcerers( i beat one, and before i could deliver the death blow to the second, he hit rosa, then cecil, with nuke). and, even though i lost, i was awarded the genji glove/gauntlet and the game continued.

That's also intentional.. JCE's just being nice.

Quote
edit: the gigas glove is stronger than the genji glove? wow, that is a NICE piece of mid-game equipment.

The Gigas Gloves lack magic defense increases, and eventually those that can equip that glove will surpass its stat bonuses.

Installing SC on this computer right now to watch it.

The fact that SC finally has a no-cd patch is a miracle.

Well, it required some thought... probably the hardest boss of them all... arguably speaking.

Even after all the FF4 research, I still came to the same conclusions. There's like one other solution, but that requires learning Meteo, so screw that.

Make use of Haste and Slow.

You have two options...

1) Go completely gung-ho and pray someone survives in the end.. use Rosa's Rage spell so everyone literally does what I'm suggesting.

2) You have to strategize a bit.

Rydia needs Bomb or Sylph available (the latter is always obtainable, the former would be available by chance) to be useful.

Berserk+Blink has to be used, but I'm not giving you every detail to this. Use your imagination on how they are used. All you need to know is Berserk is where you get the strength to do the damage required. Blink is where the imagination is at.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: The Back Row Bugs...
« on: May 15, 2008, 02:39:59 PM »
Ok, I did a bit more testing on this with a revelation I had...

The Bow+Arrow combo is "bugged" in FF4A... I could be wrong if it is a bug, but I'll call it that anyways.

I originally thought Rosa's Attack command is tied to some character specific code that cripples her usage of the Bow+Arrow combo, to force the use of Aim.

However, that isn't the case.

Apparently, the back row bit is ignored when a Bow+Arrow combo is equipped.

All Bows and Arrows have the back row bit enabled. When testing this in battle, it appears that being in the front row does make a difference.. as full hit rate is available. In the back row, approximately half of the damage is dealt (which means 1/2 hit rate penalty is applied).

So, in conclusion:

To deal full damage with the Bow+Arrow combo in FF4A, you need to one of the following:

1) Have the Aim command, so you can use it effectively in the back row.

2) Be in the front row.

This isn't Rosa specific, but this is how the Bow+Arrow combo is coded.

Search "fixes" the targeting mechanism for the monster for their next turn... and it seems to have priority over the default targeting... whether it is the random targeting from a normal attack or a multitargeted attack.
What is the behavior if the Search target dies or is removed before the next attack occurs?  Is the attack retargeted or does it silently fail?

In FF4A, the spell isn't retargeted...

In FF4, the spell is retargeted.

Strange eh?

I don't recall the elementals being hard. They have the same script as in the original version AFAIK.

Spell #144 is interesting, but it needs a little more testing in FF4...

Search "fixes" the targeting mechanism for the monster for their next turn... and it seems to have priority over the default targeting... whether it is the random targeting from a normal attack or a multitargeted attack.

For instance, Last Arm uses Fission when it is critical. This attack by default is a multitargeted sacrifice attack that damages everyone equally. If it used following Search, then the character targeted by Search gets hit instead.

Note that this behavior is occuring in the SNES version.. but not the GBA version... it should be looked into when multiple enemies are involved in the SNES version. There isn't any formation that does this, thus needing more testing.

Game Modification Station / Re: Can't Lose for Winning

Yep, new patch (and already updated once since it's release). RHDN link, and Slick link. This patch fixes a bug with item wagering at the Dragon's Neck Colliseum.

Quote from: Glitches and Bugs guide
Colosseum steals an item from your 99 stack if you win the same item you bet -

As the title says, get 99 of an item that you get back upon winning the fight at the Colosseum, and proceed to bet it.  Win or lose, you'll have 98 when the fight ends (unless you get sneezed, run, etc.).  It only happens in that specific situation though.  The easiest items to test this with are Fire Knuckles, Tao Robes, and Trumps since you can buy those.

So yeah, fixored. There may be an update in the future though, depends on if Sneeze should really be a factor in you not losing or not. That's currently up for debate. In any event, enjoy.

Sneeze is supposed to be a hint that your item sucks ass to trade.  :bah: :lame:

However, it doesn't mean you are supposed to lose the item altogether...

2488
I believe so. It may be the same reason the game won't reveal its HP to the Monster Picturebook/Beastiary...

2489
Hmm.. spell #143 seems to be for Zeromus.. but I have no idea what it does...

That still doesn't quite explain the spell version...
