I had a realization on what's causing the Poison freeze. Noting that timers in this game can cause the game to freeze.. using Poison as a counter would induce some of these types of bugs. Poison uses a timer when dealing poison damage, so it's fair to say that it wasn't intended to be done (since no enemy AFAIK does such a counter in the first place).

i'm playing through the ht hack for the first time, and for some reason cipher starts out with 0/0 hp and dies right away.   something i'm doing wrong?   :bah::lame:

edit: so i tried a few other roms, and none worked.  what do i do to get around this?

You shouldn't be using a prepatched ROM. You need to be using the original ROM and the patch. You also would have to start fresh (New Game).

prepatched?? no, i patched it.  and i downloaded a couple more of the original rom  and patched them myself with the ips from the blitzkrieg website.  i started from before cipher's battle with rubicant, and he still shows up with 0/0 hp.

aaaand, i just tried out one more rom, and it worked! cipher has hp!

this hack is pretty amazing so far.  the extra difficulty is nice for someone who's played through quite a few times already.  :cycle:

For some reason the patch doesn't like the ROM ometimes.  I still haven't been able to track down why or how the Cipher 0/0 bug happends.  Oh well, glad you're enjoying the patch.  :D

All I can say is that you should always verify the original ROM with NSRT. There are some romsites that do evil stuff to the ROM.

i'm through both trips to the tower of bab-il, and i stopped to gain a few levels using the pot in the dwarven underground.  while i was there, i remembered the developers' room, and i noticed that i couldn't access it.  i was wondering 2 things:

a.  was the dev. room taken completely out of the game(ff2us), or was the entrance sealed off? in other words, did square makes the hidden entrance solid, versus walkthrough-able like it was in ff4, and room is still there, or did they completely take the whole thing out?

b.  what levels does rosa gain float and wall, respectively?

and i know i said it before, but  :omg: i love this hack! when i first stumbled upon it a few years ago, i patched my rom just so i would have it handy, but i never played, because i thought it was the same exact game, just a little harder. once i stumbled upon there forums(which i think are amazing!) and saw that there were tweaked characters(and a new one or 2(cefca , etc)) i couldn;t wait to get started. and this hack has yet to let me down, it's incredible the amount of work that went into this.   :cookie: :cookie:

the most rom hacking i've done was translate parts of ff1 and ff4(j2e) into latin.   :omghax:  i had a ton of fun with it and would like to finish both of them, but i don't have much experience at all.  where's the best place for me to do some reading on snes hacking?

thanks,
mat   :finger:

It was replaced by something else. I can't remember what.

Beats me, it's 30+ anyways.

a. thanks, interesting.
b. yeah, i figured as much, since she's already at lv. 34 and has neither.

thanks for the reply.

edit:  btw, i've been playing around with the new spellbooks that you've implemented.  they're very cool.  :cycle: :cycle:

edit part deux: float - lv. 36; wall - lv. 38

i also want to point out that i've never found a use for edge/cipher's ninja skills before.  flood blows through anything on the underworld map.  :banonsmash:  also, i like the addition of fire 2. :cookie:  i never realized that the ninja command was based on wisdom before.  did edge/cipher always start out with so much wisdon, or did you bump it up?  :omghax:  it's been awhile since i've played through the snes version.

edit: wow, does he learn all the lv. 2 magic? i know i've said it twice, but i'm loving this game!

there's probably a better place to do this, but i'm just having too much fun playing this... that XT monster was a real challenge... for everyone but rydia. did you do that on purpose?  his blazes and meteos just kept missing her, but very quickly killed everyone else. i just stood there and used a haste spellbook and then pummeled him with titan summons. i think he actually hit me once with blaze and once with meteo, but a couple x-potions in between cleared that up in no time.  :cycle:

I'm glad you're having fun.     Feel free to create a new topic and talk about your experiences.

XT wasn't designed to kill everyone.  How much fun did you have with the Paladin monster?  Edge learns some really awsome magic--the best is yet to come.

Not sure if this thread is worthy of the bump, but whatever.

Is there something odd about the Cure4 that the Holy Dragon casts? It doesn't quite heal the damage inflicted by your characters. A single targeted Cure4 should heal all the damage dealt to it (only 9999 damage can be dealt at max)... it seems to heal like it's targeting more than one unit...

I need a HUGE favor from everyone who's played this.

I need to fix as many of the bugs and or gameplay balance issues...  So I need someone to compile as complete of a list as possible of everything documented/suggested/addressed into one large quoted post.
