The only real thing Float prevents is Quake from healing someone with Gaia Gear.

Edit:

The only other thing would be affected is the weapon bonus for "floating" targets would apply for the small number of weapons that have it. Since Disaster causes Confuse status, it would make Locke a tad more annoying if he has such a weapon equipped.

Float, like Poison, Auto Raise, Regen, Death, Petrification, etc are all ailments. I quit trying to figure out "why" a long time ago. It's a game, and it'll do what it does.

Huh, I just realized you could cast float and get that weapon bonus damage with those particular types of weapons.
