Title: The project
Post by: Lenophis on August 31, 2008, 02:31:50 AM
For those that don't know, the project is a massive Final Fantasy 6 hack that started back in February of 2006. It started out as a rebalancing effort to follow up the work King Lettuce (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=69) and I did for Demonic Pandemonium (http://slickproductions.org/ff2patch.php?id=DemonicPandemonium). The team started out with just Dragonsbrethren (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4) and myself. About a couple of months after we got our feet wet, King Lettuce (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=69) was brought into the project. Some months later Imzogelmo (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=3) signed on to the project as well. :cycle:

So what is this project really about? Potential, more or less. As you may or may not be aware, Final Fantasy 6 was sadly rushed onto the shelves. The game had many bugs left in, many aspects of the engine left unresolved, and many things that frankly left a lot to be desired. :isuck:

One such area was the difficulty, as it was easy to get around with the exception of a few areas of the game. This was because of the damage formulas, kinda. Kejardon (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18) designed and wrote the new physical damage formula, as well as some code for some crucial bug fixes. :whoa:

Another area was the dialogue, or the script in general. Despite how obvious it is at times, there are numerous questions about how to play the game. :blits: To that end, the entire script is getting a complete rewrite. It's not going to be based on anything, though aspects of the three major scripts we are familiar with (RPGone's, FF6A, and the original) will contribute. :picsorstfu:

But what's a hack without new features? Rest assured, the new stuff will not disappoint. :banonsmash: Check the screenshots (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=270.0) and videos (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=16.0) threads for the new content. Of course, if you feel the need to pitch in, you can do so here (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=26.0). :cookie:

That leaves the bugs. The bugs, that for the most part have crippled the game to insanity, hilarity, or wackiness. We're going to fix as many as we can (with emphasis on the ones worth doing). If you want to see a list of bugs fixed, check the signature. If not for the efforts of Master ZED (http://mnrogar.slickproductions.org/phpBB3/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=7), assassin (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=25), and Novalia Spirit (http://mnrogar.slickproductions.org/phpBB3/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=73), much of this project may not have happened. :omg:

In the end, when we finally do finish this thing, there will be potential that is untouched. We're doing so intentionally, to show what this game is truly capable of. :omghax:

That's what you get for disappearing for months, drinking away the money they paid you to help them and hitting them up for more. :(
