For new games, you have to edit the "Initial data" as well.

Freelancer and Mimic calculate their stats differently, they inherit stats from mastered jobs. Maybe that is what you've overlooked?

Good shot! I "corrected" four 18-18-18-18 I found to 14-14-14-14, but there was still no change. Hm, for a moment I hoped your advice, which made me start a new game with those 14-rows, led me to the solution. But no, and I still have no clue what ist wrong...
Btw, when I start a new game, I always play until wind shrine is done, I don't just look at Butz' start stats.
Also, before starting a new game I even delete the srm in order to get a really fresh game.
And since I play only the jobless part of the game, not a single job is mastered ^^

Ok, I now want to summarize the situation:
  • Freelancer is given 14-14-14-14 on job data D1/56B0-D1/57FF
  • Four former 18-18-18-18 sequences were re-written into 14-14-14-14 on character initial data D1/7000-D1/713F
  • Character stats and Job-stats have been altered at my own pace.
  • (The characters' stats at the start of the game are as it should be. But that's irrelevant I guess, because those have to be put in manually. The stats are 20 + their respective bonuses)
  • As soon as I choose the Freelancer Job, the game calculates 24 + character stats

I made an example ips for a headerless ROM with RPGe translation if someone wants to work on that as well.
  • Character stat bonus set to 5 for every stat and character
  • Four 18-18-18-18 sequences between D1/7000-D1/713F set to 14-14-14-14
  • Freelancer stats are (well.. should be) 20 each
  • Literally everything else is untouched
Just start a new game and play until you get the jobs or use a cheat code. The moment you choose the Freelancer job the stats will become 29.

That probably mean that Freelancer & Mimic are hardcoded to all 24 :(

Well, I guess that means I don't have a choice other than giving every other Job +4 on every stat. Not a big drama though since I can just make the enemies stronger to compensate that.^^

Why can't you just change the values in the code? Should be simple hex editing.

If you are talking about
Job data D1/56B0-D1/57FF
and/or
Character initial data D1/7000-D1/713F:
That's exactly what I did. But the game still counts with Freelancer having 24. That's why I uploaded the Example.ips file, to show to you guys that these are edited but having no influence on the Freelancer.

I see. Well then it's not just simple hex editing to me^^
I see that as a final call to finally learn about goddamn ASM coding I know nothing about haha
