Found the problem! It's Stony Silence making the game go crazy. :( It took me a while to figure it out.

The crashes are fixed in Magitek Madness. :3

The other weird bugs I've not yet isolated. They're definitely caused by a bug-fix patch. They're not caused by Magitek Madness, though.

I have a hex editor. They're way too useful to not have at least one. :3

Oh, and characters are standing back up with 0 HP. Whatever's causing this, it must be in a heck of a spot.

Update: Relm, standing in Near Fatal with 0 HP, was just healed from being hit by an element she can absorb. Huh.

Update 2: Ahahaha! Edgar just used Jump by himself while dead! This is too weird. Download my patch comp and try the oddity for yourself. :3

I keep my patches separate, actually, in case something like this happens. This seems to be a bug-fix patch or a bad combination of bug-fix patches. I'll need to try every one to find out, I guess.

UPDATE: And now Edgar is using Fight while he's in the air from Jump. Baffling. All I have applied are bug-fix patches, too. The Jump sound effect played while he was already Jumped as well.

UPDATE 2: Oh, so it's known: Magitek Madness is not in this build.

Xenovant, I think you're right! It could well be my fault, too. There's a large chance I applied the wrong patch. I know, sounds really clumsy... I'll check it now.

UPDATE: No. I don't have Side Saddle, so it can't be me. I'll see if Magitek Madness is causing the problem anyway.

UPDATE 2: I used the reverse patch for Magitek Madness and tested. The game crashed the moment I got into battle. Wha?

UPDATE 3: The reverse patch seems to be definitely screwed up.

UPDATE 4: Magitek Madness confirmed to be the cause of the crashing. The bug where the ATBs empty =  Still unsolved. :(

UPDATE 5: Okay, Edgar just became inflicted with Condemned while Wounded. He stood with 0 HP. Before the timer could tick down all the way, he collapsed again. Magitek Madness is NOT applied now. What is this?

UPDATE 6: Characters seem to switch in and out of Near Fatal oddly. Maybe related to Rock Bottom?

UPDATE 7: Rock Bottom isn't the problem. Also, I'm noticing now that while Edgar is using Jump and is in the air, Celes, Relm, and Sabin... can't fight. Their ATBs empty instead. No idea what this could be.

UPDATE 8: HOLY CRAP. Edgar, while still in the air from Jump, just used Chain Saw on Celes! He wasn't even Muddled!

Leet Sketcher:

I don't use save states in games with sram, so that can't be it in my case.

I have FF3usME edits in, but I've confirmed them to not be the cause. It's definitely a bug-fix (or maybe several fixes?) causing my problems. :S

Make a patch for me containing all of your changes. I'll test it for you. I have a save right at the game's end.

Assassin:

I tried removing "I Condemn Thee to Hell", but that didn't fix the problem.

Okay, Gamma Rays causes Condemned status. if a bug-fix is causing this, it's logical it would be one related to Condemned.

On your problem, Leet Sketcher: I don't have it, so it wouldn't be a bug-fix patch from my list. It also wouldn't be one of the following, as I have them applied as well:

255 Hours (Leviathan Mist)
Alphabetical Rage (Assassin)
Charm Blocker (Drakkhen)
Edgar Revealed (mblock129)
Gerad and Sabin (Leet Sketcher)
MP Digit Recolor: Imzogelmo
Sticky Shadow (Djibriel/Assassin)
Title Screen Hack (Yazoo)

Thanks much and you're amazing. :childish:

I guess I should figure out what's wrong with my patch set before I apply this, though...

Sigh...

I just tested to see if my patch is affected by this problem. It isn't. HOWEVER... My patch makes the game crash to a black screen in battle! :lame: Now I have to diagnose, too.

UPDATE: I can't recreate the problem now. I'll need to experiment further. I'm not sure what happened. As for your problem, it must not be any of the patches I'm using. Which patches do you have?

UPDATE 2: It happens when I fight Scullion. He uses a spell and the game crashes. Now I KNOW that doesn't happen on my cart. :3 I'll find out exactly what's going on.

UPDATE 3: When Scullion uses Gamma Rays, the game crashes. Holy crap. Now I guess I need to do a lot of testing to find the source of THAT.

UPDATE 4: It's definitely a bug-fix patch causing it. :(

UPDATE 5: Crap. I'm experiencing another bug where the characters will randomly lose their turns. That is, their ATBs will start over again without them taking their turns.

Game Modification Station / Re: Sprite and text box shenanigans

Ah. Well, I believe the real SNES does that too, for what it's worth. We just can't see it happen on a television, for whatever reason. Maybe it's NTSC related? Byuu said something about it before, but I can't remember. A filter might be able to take care of it. What I don't like about higan (other than the interface) are the defaulting filters "color" and "blur".

Seems "pure" can be in the eye of the beholder... :hmm:

I don't think modern snes9x has any issues with FF6, though.

There's bsnes-plus, for if your computer is strong enough but you dislike the higan interface. It's a fork of an older bsnes that includes some advancements from modern versions of higan but uses the old interface.

If you go snes9x, a test build would be preferable because it would have more fixes. That emulator hasn't had a full new version in a while.

Finally back. You know, it's very easy to incur the wrath of morons on Twitter. Even on your first day really posting there. Ticks one off and makes one kind of want to avoid internet interaction for a while. When you remember that not everyone is a moron, it helps. And I do love you folks.

Updated the patch with the following Leet Sketcher patches:

Chance Offering
Double Block
Hasty T-Rex
Imp's Call
Reflections (updated version)
Rock Bottom
Stony Silence
Upside Down

Perhaps I should start my own topic soon. It'll make it easier to maintain and I'll be able to put up headered patches easily. Regardless, happy patching, soft or hard.

(I still want to see a patch "materialize" for the Sealed Gate extra rock thing sometime... Somebody do my bidding! When you have a little spare time, please. :3)

A rarely-noticed fact about Setzer is that in the Japanese version he joins the party with a Bandana equipped although he cannot equip them (if removed he cannot reequip it). This is not a bug, but was meant to be an inside joke showing Setzer's vanity does not allow him to wear the same things as Locke. In the GBA version Setzer does not come with a Bandana, as the porting team possibly thought it was a glitch

Eheh. I'm sure you know this reeks of "it's not a bug; it's a feature", but I'll say it anyway. Easy for a dev to claim that after the fact (and there's no clue of this "explanation" in-game). One could easily argue the "Sleazy Lender" bug as a feature, too. ;P Fairly, the game is so ridiculously buggy that it does look conspicuous to defend just that one instance (even if it's the easiest one to defend with silly reasoning). On the third hand, the game is so ridiculously buggy that it's hard to find something that ISN'T bugged. Occam's Razor.

That wiki is silly, but wikis tend to be. :3

I actually considered having TWO patches for the bug. One to remove the Bandana from Setzer (IE: the one I made) and one to simply make Setzer able to equip the Bandana. I might still do this. I just figured the GBA team's solution was the simplest one to follow.

Leet Sketcher's observation on the Mithril stuff Setzer wears makes me consider a third patch as well.

Oh, and I had attributed SilentEnigma's "Stuck in a Pose" patch incorrectly in my post. Sorry about that. I fixed it now.

:isuck:

Updated AGAIN to fix Dead in the Air being applied AFTER patches it needed to be applied BEFORE.

NOW it should all be good. I re-created the patch from the beginning to ensure this.

I should reorganize my patch folders to prevent this sort of error in the future.

I updated the bug-fix compilation again. It now has Self Sneeze instead of Remote Control. It also has the updated Banon Riding. Merry patching.
