Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: Cursed Ring - Anyone Use It?

It doesn't get much play until you get elemental resistances.. starts with the Gold Hairband @ Mist (not sure if that treasure has changed in FF4DS), Flame Shield/Armor from the Tower of Zot... Ice Shield/Armor from the Tower of Bab-il..., then there's a whole lotta Lightning resistant armor @ Tomra and at the Land of Summoned Monsters.

Normally speaking (in terms of FF4 in general), it's a niche piece of equipment, probably better for boss battles.

Before FF4A, the Immune property had precedence over Absorb... the reverse in true in FF4A.

It might be worth pointing out that this command, and any other that takes more than one turn, will be executed much faster if you stop inputting commands while he's in the air.

I think that has more to do with FF4A than anything... since command execution is lined with Agility/ATB.

It affects FF4a more because its battles are slow to begin with but it applies to every version.

Oh well, it's fixed.

I'm pretty sure that's not the right name (this isn't the Fabul battle).. but I'll have to double check how FF4A calls it.

The one at Fabul is "Captain" in FF4.

I liked FF2's naming better. It was so simple and obvious.

All the strategies themselves are great, only problems I could find were little things:

This command is not available in FF2, not FF4ET as some
have misreported.
This sentence is really awkward.

I'll think about it.

Cover (Paladin)
Nothing wrong with your description but I'd add a bit about how the command changes to "Off" when in use. I've seen a few threads asking about the mythical Off command at GameFAQs...

He might be a friend of Cecil, but he's jealous of Cecil like any man who has
no girlfriend. This issue manifests itself as part of his possession, and
tries to redeem himself in the process. Unfortunately, FF4A doesn't even
properly do him justice with his lame trial. Really, that part of the new
script was outright awful. Who wrote that crap?
Something from FF4 DS you might find interesting, I'll spoiler tag it just in case someone doesn't want to see it, even if it isn't a real spoiler.
Zemus is apparently trying to take control of Kain during the decent into the subterrane, based on his thoughts on the way down. Interesting detail you'd miss out on unless you have him as your map character when you open the menu.
No surprises there, that's a logical improvement actually. I'd still like a Kain vs Edge battle royale though. That battle script could be modified as such....

2xattack
Needs a space.

I may end up rewording that.

The command is actually pretty useful in FF2us, so I'd point that out.

Sure.

You forgot "/Regen" here.

You forgot "Imp/" here.

Graaaaaahhhh

Leaving them alone will eventually allow them to inflict
Blind status on you.
This status is "Darkness" in every version except for FF4 DS.

That's an annoying detail...

Flan/Pudding monsters
Toad monsters
I'd list the actual monster names here.

I'm not looking to write out every list... it's a pain in the ass (if I did that for the Spell Guide, I'd hate myself)

Boss: Octomammoth
I have an unconventional Octomammoth strategy: Kill Rydia and Tellah. Have Cecil use the Hermes sandals on himself to increase his number of turns, without the other two slowing down the battle he'll get a lot more turns than normal and can really take advantage of the weakness here.

I'm not that suicidal. I'd sacrafice the old man first above all else.

There is also a lot of capitalization that doesn't really make sense ("Dark Blades" in Cecil's description, for example), I didn't bother pointing that out because I wasn't sure if it was intentional for emphasis or what.

I'm half and half on that... mind you I still have 80+% of the game to go. I'll worry about minute details later...

If it gets that far, sure. I suck at proofreading my own stuff anyways.

Working on this is a pain in the ass, here's a working copy at the moment.

Doing the Algo one may be harder to do... though... I'd have to relook at that mess... heh.

Comments/Questions/Critique welcome.

Oh yeah, there's the Yang HP level bug (incomplete level up stat growth for HP).

Anyone got his HP growth data from the European GBA version? This should be fairly easy to fix.

In Entroper's docs, he has offsets for the US version... it should be relatively close in the Euro version...

Quote
Name   Offset   Row Size   # rows   Hex   Size   End Address
Character Levels   948280   16   1118   E7838   17888   966168   940

You should be able to find the full version at some abandonware sites...

Anyways, the full version will be a bit different than the demo (at least intro-wise... funny enough, the demo levels are at the end of the full version's WAD files, not normally accessible w/o cheating)... the basic premise is still the same.

The voices are really worth your time...

Yes, I'm speaking of New York. A lot of the headlines read like a tabloid to begin with...

The lightning weakness on Valvalis (Barbariccia) in the Elements battle is not removed by the game engine (the monster is supposed to be weak vs Holy only, with no other resistances 0r absorb). This is fixed in FF4A.

Oh yes, before I forget...

I'm trying to recall if the Euro version fixed it, but the US version doesn't adhere to the "evasion stat" when monsters use it (see Barbariccia and Cagnazzo).

I think most of the stuff is covered.. there's a good chance there are some loose odds and ends that were forgotten.

 :edit:
You are far better of reading the content of most messages posted here... and summarizing what was said in a link to the actual thread. I'm not going to recall every detail from every thread.. (sadly).

Not to get too OT, but most of NY papers are generally called tabloids (and rightfully so).

That's interesting, since I've just tested that out, and it's true that the FF4 version of Sylph costs MP.. I've retested all the other SNES versions for this, and it seems that FF4 has it working properly. Every other version has zero MP consumption...

So, it begs the questions:

1) What the heck was changed since then?

2) Is the translation patch responsible for a fix?

Bang her? Yes.

Pay for it? No. I understanding paying for college, but selling yourself for that really does drop her to the level of a prostitute, no matter how that's justified.
I don't see how selective you can be here if one pays money for this "service". The closest thing you could do is do what like school carnivals do, have the girl kiss for $1 to $5 or something and that wouldn't be classified as selling yourself.

I feel sorry for her, but I'm not paying for that. A high quality prostitute would be cheaper...

More importantly, the question is: Are condoms involved?
