This editor is nice and all, but... I'm curious what I'm doing wrong. See, I can make changes in the editor, but those changes refuse to be saved. I use File, Save, but closing the editor and opening it again just causes the previous changes to be erased. Any idea what's going wrong?

[Edit]: Neeeeevermind. I was using an outdated version that couldn't actually save files. Working now.

Well, like Lenophis said, the easiest way of doing this may just be SRAM hacking. Lord J's SRAM hacking utility came with a document that seems to detail some of that... I'm just now getting into the details of it. Unfortunately this really only applies to saved games, methinks. I'd like to be able to have things changed on start-up. Unless I'm missing something and it can apply to the entire game? I'll have to fiddle around with it, see what I can get to work. In the meantime, any extra help is still very much welcomed.

Nah, I'm using sprite editors for the actual editing work. FFse and FFusSpriteEd. Believe me, I wouldn't hex my way into changing things that detailed! But this is more of something that can't be done with the editors. I can change the palette, sure, that's easy enough. But the game automatically assigns certain palettes to certain characters. I want to manipulate which character gets which palette. Thus far I seem to, at best, only get that done halfway. Thus I'm forced to find out how to hex my way outta this or plain put up with it.

I'm certain there must be a method of doing this. There's a Youtube of someone's custom monster using an Ultima-style spell that did not have a background color change. I can't seem to find it now, though... so I'm not really sure how one goes about it. Maybe playing around with the first animation could affect the latter two?

Well, thus far I've managed to make the correction just fine. The only other thing that really irks me is how difficult it can be to edit some of the other characters. Take Leo, for instance. He uses Edgar's palette, which has since been changed. Now I THINK I can edit his battle palette to be something that he hasn't been assigned before. But his overworld palette? Seems to be unchangeable. So I suppose my next question is... how does one edit which of the many palettes a character is assigned by "default?"

I have this automagically_palettes executable I'm using which decodes the game into a text and hex file and it seems possible to reassign palettes that way. The problem is... it doesn't really seem to be working as well as I'd like. I found every instance of Leo in the file and for the life of me I cannot make his overworld palette change. His battle palette I can't actually check because I'm not that far into the game with this beta test. Any tips, or should  just resprite and make the best of it with palette zero?

Thank you, those happened to be exactly the slots I was using for the new colors.

Game Modification Station / FF6 Battle Palette Issues

Whee, first post and it's already a request for help! So I'm having some difficulty modding FF6. What I'm trying to do is replace the sprites for Edgar in the game and at the same time replace his palette. Now, out-of-battle, this is working fine. Palette change is accepted, sprites look fine. However, as soon as I enter battle, things change wildly. He starts to use a completely alien palette... which changes even when he's moved in his position in the party. I tried this again without changing the palette and the SAME issue came up. So what am I doing wrong here? Why is the battle palette for him suddenly screwed up even when I don't change the palette? I can provide screenshots if necessary.
