Title: Writing A Magic Guide
Post by: Deathlike2 on May 11, 2008, 01:40:44 PM
I've been putting off writing a FAQ for this game, so I figure that I should do it in pieces to make life easier (so I'd actually write it).

Other than making sure I give credit to everyone involved, is there anything in particular that should be mentioned that hasn't been written about in this forum already?

Edit: Also, are there any questions (dumb or whatnot) that you think should be included in the FAQ?

Well, here's my guide... comments, feedback, concerns, questions should be addressed here.

I'll give it a good read-over tomorrow when I'm not as tired. Right now I noticed one small issue unrelated to the content: Super Famicon

I finally got around to do some testing to satisfy my curiosity...

The spell/item Life is derived by Stamina/Vitality * 5 to HP.. but it is possible to have 0 Vitality in the SNES version due to stat reduction (Cursed Ring).

So, we have something that looks like this:

When battle occurs, she starts back in Death status.

She can't be revived in battle..

In FF4A, a similar behavior happens outside of battle.

In battle, a Phoenix Down/Life spell revives 1 HP. In battle with 0HP, apparently the dead still stand until being hit.

I'm still updating this as we speak, just so you know.

No feedback? In any case, here's a revised version...

Edit: Removed since it is submitted to Gamefaqs.

Note: I've submitted the data to Gamefaqs, with some minor tweaks to the guide that was posted here, regarding some of the dummied spells. Even though the spells are not normally castable in FF4ET, the weapon-item spells will still cast Protect, Shell, and Dispel.

Do you want me to pick out small, nitpicky things like typos? All the data looks perfect, but I noticed a few minor things like capitalization and name errors for a few enemies.

The nitpicky stuff should be listed last unless that's all you have. I'm the suckiest at names and spelling anyways.

Otherwise, go at it.

Edit: Attached a version that was submitted to Gamefaqs.

Second edit: Removed it now since it's on Gamefaqs.

Finally, it's uploaded. Strangely.. why is it renamed on Gamefaqs?.. Hmm...

Here's the link anyways (it will work if you visited Gamefaqs recently): http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/snes/file/588330/53021

Ok, I've updated the guide a little more, explaining how Odin works. Some guy e-mailed me which prompted an updated version (it will be posted sometime tomorr0w on Gamefaqs). I did update the Palom/Porom/character summons section to reflect what FF4A did (though, I should actually remember to test it, but I'm quite sure that the character shown is directly linked to their position in the Tower of Prayers).

I'm actively reworking the guide for some new stuff.

I've finally come to the conclusion that there are no level driven spells (but Sleep is still mystifying to me), rather a lot of it is part of the spell hit rate bonus due to stat bonuses.

If anything needs to be addressed in this document, please say so now.

From this point forward, Wind elemental my official name for the Air/Aerial/Projectile/"Throw" (poor choice there for FF4A) elemental. It simply sounds better than all the other names.

Personally, I think wind-elemental is a bit deceptive given its usage; I think anti-aerial is a far better choice, it may be an element but it doesn't act like a traditional element, it acts more as a weapon property the way it is used in the game.

Perhaps, but I still love Kain's FF2US quote the best..

This was to Valvalis (Barbariccia).. it went along the lines of..

"You aren't the only one who fights in the air."

Here what is probably going to be submitted sometime later today.

:edit:

Under spell check, will reupload when finished.

There we go.

Gamefaqs has an updated version now.
