Post by: Wheelbarrow on January 12, 2012, 02:02:09 PM
Howdy folks, just wanted to throw a big 2012 shout out into this otherwise hibernating forum, just in case anything needs to be done before Quetzalcoatl comes back. Hope everyone's doing well.

I take a good share of blame for the lack of activity. RL has been tough for most of 2011, but I'm trying to get back into it.
I know many people are wanting a patch for 24 bit HP. Making that work is already done in PB, and it's just a matter of re-learning all the stuff I've forgot and making it again in order to make a patch. That, plus there are concerns about making it fit in the existing ROM space. I think it should be possible, though. The other concern is about the fact that even if a patch were made, using it would mean that a person would have to be pretty familiar with hex numbers and hex editors, neither of which I will be offering any lectures on. :D
That said, hopefully the ball will be rolling again soon. Hope it's a great year for everyone!

I totally understand how tough things can be. Being an indie game developer & having dabbled in ROMhacking I have a pretty good idea. I still haven't tried out the PB demos so now's probably as good a time as any. Keep up the good work and everything will work out. :)

True words right here. 2011 was rather a shitty year for me with exception of getting married and building a house. Everything else pretty much was crappy being unemployed most of the year.
2012 isn't turning out much better either actually...

Sorry to hear that.
Hope things flip around for ya. Congrats on getting married and the New Home. Thats a ton of work. I almost wish i owned a really nice condo XD
But owning a Home is a much better investment in the long run...... if you live in a nice area.

Nice to see that you guys are still at it after all these years. I haven't been here for ages, but I got reminded of this hack when I heard Jesse's gonna live stream a complete play through of FF6 in honor of the 25th anniversary of the Final Fantasy series. (announcement of the live stream: http://youtu.be/PF6BIxw4XDU?t=4m48s (http://youtu.be/PF6BIxw4XDU?t=4m48s) )
Just know that I will definitely play this hack whenever it comes out.

I'm sorry to keep everyone waiting like this. There's been enough chaos going on. So without further ado, bam (http://slickproductions.org/ff6patch.php?id=Pandoras%20Box%20demo%203).

So I have yet to fire this up yet since I have been so busy
I do plan on doing a write up and sharing it again once I play through it again (I was forced to give up on my dying xperia play which was my primary emulator device!)
Read the readme.txt but the changes in this latest version didn't seem apparent. Is this release just to address the Opera House bug? I know they have been battling with a few of those over on the FF6 improvement project.

There weren't many significant changes to note, but as always there are engine changes, and of course a couple of bugs squashed. The game should be a bit easier than the first demo, since there were some balance issues that were weeded out, as well.

l never would have noticed that you linked a new demo if people hadn't talked about it a bit. Even if it's not a big update, i might as well take a look through it.

Ok, with the two recent bug reports fixed, an updated demo 3 has been uploaded (http://slickproductions.org/ff6patch.php?id=Pandoras%20Box%20demo%203.1). For everyone that was hit by the burning house, load a save from before that event, and report anything new please.

I do plan on getting back into my playthrough at some point!
Been playing so many different things I almost feel I should start over.
This topic could use a new title too....

Hello 2014! I'm enjoying the latest beta so far. Is there a trick to getting past the Whelk in the very beginning? I've been whaling on it for the better part of an hour now...
Edit: I probably used the wrong ROM. Finally after taking the Whelk out, the game locked up. Bummer.
Edit again: I verified the MD5 checksum against the one in the readme and I do have the correct ROM. Double bummer.
Edit the third: I restarted and did not experience another lockup. Happy day!! I'm playing it with PocketSNES on the GCW Zero, by the way. Neat little machine.
I have been following this project for years, and have abstained from past demo releases. But I could not resist any longer. I'm thrilled to be playing this, even though it is a demo.

It really seems like the PB team does not care about their fanbase enough anymore to offer a simple response or update.

It is extremely difficult to work on a hobby project when you're at work 60+ hours in a week. Sleep deprivation is a thing. Is this cancelled? No. Realistically, it's hard to put any kind of real time towards this right now. Dessyreqt has been bugging me to help him with the FF6 randomizer, but I can't put any time towards that either.
What would you have me do, exactly?
Title: Re: Hello 2012!

Ah OK, I see and understand. Thanks for the response and clearing up the status of the project. I'm sorry to hear it is stuck in limbo in terms of being completed, but I am happy it's not canceled all together! The Randomizer is awesome, I understand how it's receiving the majority of your hacking time these days.
So, it sounds like it's now up to you and you alone to finish PB? I was never sure if it was pretty much all you doing the majority of the changes (your hack) or if it was a true team effort being worked on by you all. (Imzog, King Lettuce, DB, assassin, etc.)
Anyways, I hope you win a huge lottery of some kind as to not have to go to work so this incredible hack can be finished up sometime. :)

It is and was always a team effort. Unfortunately, real life kicked the teams' ass, figuratively and literally. I had a few ideas to tie things over, but I couldn't get the team to sign off on them. (Don't bother asking. :finger: )
