Game Modification Station / Chronosplit's Mega Backup
« on: August 01, 2017, 09:56:48 PM »
Didn't really want to do this, especially since some contents are already in threads I've made, but stupidity happened. If you just want the backup without hearing my jabber, here you go: https://mega.nz/#F!OI91hCTb!07Tsx9_auVpG1ksRFUDgsA

As you may or may not know, RHDN has a Patreon now. Aside from being the worst implimentation possible, I'm left with the problem of what happens on the off-chance Nintendo gives the site one big hello because it's making money now. Plus the site has been going slow as a snail with the bonus of downloads cutting out lately.  Best thing going right now is for me to slap all patches on MEGA while the net was good as a backup and see what happens.

Well now, there's a lot of filenames so here is what is what:
-CTBugfix: There's a thread about this already.
-FFT Name Fix: There's a thread about this already.
-FR251: Pokemon FireRed 251.  A hack that took a base I used for scripts, and turned it into a hack that focuses on lowkey improvement.  It ends up with the same idea as the Challenge Modes you see in other games, but a little more widespread.  A few more liberties are taken than the Emerald stuff (for example, gym leaders are minorly improved upon).
-FRoback: A weird but nice addon that adds to Pokemon Throwback many big elements of FireRed 251, mostly those that made it harder.  Throwback has mirrors already.
-Hoenn Dex Edition: Basically, this is Pokemon Emerald Emu Edition.  This version makes available all of Hoenn's Pokemon and events.  Has a bunch of other improvements like new Pokemon sprites and extra patches, basically a straight upgrade.
-Pokemon Emerald National Dex: Like above but 386.  Unlike most of this type the level curve is kept the same.  Has one version with altered trainers and one without (I wouldn't say without is completely OP, as I did this in a way that new Pokes are treated as extra options to what is already there.  Placement is more sensible than most of this type).
-Cloned Stones: Makes copies of four items to be used as evolution stones for trade mons.  Has a version for the above two hacks.
-TSFix: There's already a thread about this.
-FFTA stuff that matters: Long ago I made a patch for Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. It was an early result from me learning the ropes, and it was bad. There were however gems worth keeping, so this basically keeps the patches for changing Marche's starting class and a patch that gives you a simple mixup of your default party for fun's sake (For example, Montblanc is an Animist).

EDIT: Whoops, messed up the link permissions.  Won't really let me do it public.

You've probably seen these about, but I figure since I'm here I might as well make a thread.  Two in one because they're somewhat similar in goal.

Final Fantasy Tactics Name Fix Patch
Don't want to play PSP's stylized take on the script, but also hate seeing crap in your menus like Wiznaibus or punching people with swords?  Wish you could play the PS1 version with somewhat modern spell names?  These xDelta patches are for you!  This little patch fixes and updates Ability, Equipment, Job/Monster, Treasure, and Unexplored Land names.  The intent is to stay within the lines of PS1 and GBA FF releases with terms, so while familiar they are (hopefully) also readable and not overly stylized.  Some WOTL was used but not nearly all.  This is also not a retranslation, so the plot dialog and such has been left completely intact and not everything was changed.  Included are a "main" version, a version that doesn't use the modern spell suffixes (so it's 1/2/3 like FFs up to VII), and one that has WOTL's swordskills.   Also included are .ffttext files, for those of you who want to use them in your own stuff or wish to modify them in the editors (in fact, in the FAQ are some things just for that.  Like Limit Break notes or really weird things attempted on Un-Truth).

The zip appears to be too big for Slick, so here are some links:
FFHacktics, all discussion tends to wind up here as well as getting updated sooner.
RHDN, has screenshots and a directly linked change list that you don't need to download (the list isn't short, and I'm absolutely sure some are objectionable.).

Chrono Trigger Bugfix and Uncensoring Patch.
This patch fixes errors in Techs, Equipment, the script, localization whoopsies, and minor update of things to Cross's terms (only two or three really need this at all, however I have taken note of things that seem to be referenced in Cross that were lost by the localization, like mentions of Earth).  As a bonus this also decapitalizes names in the script, improves some battle strings, and removes the somewhat odd indented formatting the game used.  Later, you'll see MSU1 with FMVs and an optional version that redoes the tone of the Middle Ages and Frog.

The patch is now officially too large, so you can also check out RHDN for a download.

Game Modification Station / Lightning Strikes Twice! (FFIX)
« on: March 31, 2017, 01:20:07 PM »
This is my attempt at FFIX's long-standing Thunder Slash Bug.  :hmm:

Steiner's version of Thunder Slash is broken because it would almost always miss unless against heavy monsters, Beatrix's isn't.  Why is that?  The finger sometimes is pointed to a theory where Iai Strike has too much accuracy (let's face it, it could stand a nerf) and TS has too little, meaning Iai Strike "steals" it's accuracy.  However after a look-see, this doesn't appear to be the case.  TS was accidentally given the wrong damage formula, running off of Gravity Magic (Demi, Aqua Breath, etc.) instead of Magic Weapon.  The evidence for this is in the data surrounding it: outside of damage formula and different power/MP levels, Thunder Slash shares next to no difference from the rest of his direct damage skills.  Including no inherent accuracy (because weapon based moves have their accuracy overridden by your usual attack accuracy) which was why it was always missing.  Beatrix's would work because it's a completely different ability with other Monster ones and is a Magic Attack.  Go figure.

So what does Thunder Slash do now?  Thunder Damage to one enemy that is more than Stock Break, but slightly less than Climhazzard and much less than Shock.  It runs off of the same damage formula as Climhazzard, so it hits Magic Defense with Physical Attack.  Yes that is a load of power but it's also normally encountered late-game anyway.  There was once a patch that would change it to a bog-standard Physical Strike, but it turns out that formula robs TS of it's element due to running off of the weapon's element.

Standard PPFs here, apply to your discs and go.  Oh, and this is for the US 1.1 version (the one with the Square Enix logo.)
