It's not helpful if the spell is unusable outside of battle.. it is probably best to disable it.

It wasn't in the battle script, there was an empty slot present in that battle, it was reading garbage data as a script.

If "learning" teaches normal spells, Gogo will never be able to learn them, ever. He has no spell block in the SRAM (neither does Umaro, for that matter).

I actually like it highlighted. Should be possible to disable it, would require a code change though.

Think of a magician's disappearing hat trick.. or probably the "shell game"...

The mute thing is weird to me to be honest. Technically the code would have to simply disable the Magic command for that character's menu, and probably black it out in the Status menu (like how Runic and Swordtech are blacked out when no compatible weapon is equipped). That's where you'd normally see a visual cue for that spell.. then again, FF1 and FF5 don't have perma-mute... (unsure of FF2/3 NES). I don't quite understand the Echo Screen "oversight"... it almost sounds like it wasn't finished or something (it wouldn't surprise me though if there wasn't time left).

Mute status isn't saved out of battle (there's 4 status ailment bytes, mute is in byte 2). Unfortunately, only status bytes 1 & 4 are saved, and I really want to believe that they could've organized it better...

A lot of this is based off of FF7's elemental/added effects idea... it's a relatively simple expansion of it. Some relics already follow this, but that's a small minority of relics.

i 100% second this. in fact, i was kind of disappointed the first time around, because after playing with a few of the semi-later ones(i.e.slow/2, mirror ring, etc) and getting effects from them, i wondered why he hadn't just done that with all of them.

make learn fire 1/2 damage from fire
learn fire2 1/4 damamge from fire
learn fire3 nullify damage from fire
learn meteor makes you randomly cast it when you attack through"fight'(is this possible?)
learn vanish makes you vanish
learn exit, well, maybe you randomly run from battles?(ala the chicken knife from ff5)
and so on and so forth...

it wouldn't really be all that game-breaking, as only a few characters can equip these things.  :cycle:

Also not possible.

I had similar items in my FF6 hack, which were merged into PB (relatively) recently, that act similar to what you're suggesting with the elements. They weren't learn relics though, they were...something else. :wink:
