Experiments all seem to work, so I think I can pull this out of testing.

-Bugfix itself is now a UPS file that expands the ROM, tuned to a headered version of a clean ROM.  This is the cleanest way to go about this situation, plus it keeps the intended order pretty well.  Plus, one base patch is nice.  I may take more advantage of this space as time moves forward (not needing to worry about space is a pretty big deal, I  can do stuff like tend to Frog with this.)
-The liberties stuff, along with SkyDark and a CronoNick patch modified to be in line with this, is now in Optional Patches.  Apply these all after you're done with the main patches in any order.  These are IPS due to multiple setups.
-Sentry>GhostKnight (Duh!  How did I miss that one?  It's totally needed as it's a big clue to how you actually need to handle it, and it's supposed to be there.)

Wanted to let everyone know two things:
1. There's a major glitch in Choras where it calls the wrong events.  I'm on it.
2. To fix this, I'm rebuilding everything from scratch.  BUT WAIT, this is a good thing!  I'm more able to use the power of the expanded ROM and better knowledge from the start to fix bugs, and the original patch's changes are even rolled in (partially what caused the bug after all)!  What more could you want?  You'll be seeing a fix to Crono's Trial with a certain Juror and an AI targeting bugfix, along with CronoNick put in by default (and added to Falcon Hit's description!)

More?  Maybe!  Let's just get it rebuilt first, but I should probably warn that Panacea is now default and there have been a couple changes to monster names.

Temp list:
-Patch is now standalone, optional folder now has only SkyDark and Liberties.
-Now for a Non-Headered ROM.
-CronoNick and the missing ending picture are now added, CronoNick is now used in Falcon Hit instead of Crono's name.  Because fun.  Warning though: this will make old saves go boom unless you used that with the old patch or it's before Mystic Mountain, because there's nothing to reference with CronoNick in the description.
-Panacea is now in all versions due to clashing with the Heal spell otherwise.  The text is now unaltered outside of replacing Heal with Panacea (text shortening be gone!)
-Flea's Bra>Flea Bra to coincide with OzziePants
-Gigasaur and Terasaur's names are now properly given (no more Terasaur beforehand, Giant's Claw should have tera monsters.)
-GhostKnight>GhostSentry
-Deceased>Fallen Soul
-Meat Eater>Meat-Eater
-Man Eater>Man-Eater
-Fixed a string in which a cafe was still mentioned.
-Fixed a targeting AI bug with targeting the character with the lowest HP.
-Fixed the Trial error where the juror judging the cat is a dingy.
-Fixed Drop Kick's description completely so it actually looks like it's part of the gang.
-In Liberties, Conductor shows up in the description.
-Beetle is back.
-Cider>Hard Cider
-Hard Lemonade scene is no longer shortened.  Yell at me really loud if it spills from the box.
-Crono's "yes" choice in drinking the sake is now less stupid than Pour it up.  It's now "Hit me!"
-Restored Rock Crash!  As a... sake bomb.  It needed to fit the box.  Still a cocktail.
-Made altered lines better, you now have talk about booze and alcohol along with the beer.

EDIT: Aaaaand it's ready!  All of the above and more!  Stuff's been submitted, but last minute I found that I left a debug check where {crononick} was in Marle's being torn to pieces.... as absolutely horrible as it is to see Marle make an unknown (textual) noise at that time, you can find the fixed version beforehand in my MEGA because it's just too big for Slick now: https://mega.nz/#F!OI91hCTb!07Tsx9_auVpG1ksRFUDgsA

Hotfix will be on RHDN when I get it up.  Such is the nature of hacking, where you find a single byte.

 :edit:
Hey everyone, there's a test update in the MEGA Mirror.  You'll notice it's over 600 kbps.  What's in it?  Well... actually this update is so huge that I should say "read the readme," but here's a quick glance:

-Everyone's name in the script is now decapped.
-First line script indentations are now a thing of the past.
-Patching is now 500% less frustrating, everything is now in delta BPS.
-Stutters are now hyphenated.
-Sealed Chests/Doors and item acquiring is now synched to be all the same.
-Fixed a metric ton of lines.
-Magus's Hurricane is more correct.
-Did a going over of Battle Messages.
-More bugfixes from the vanilla game.  Fixed an HP to 1 ability bug and did my best to involve bike race fixes.
-Reverted all undead things except Soul, the D for dead is back.

Current bugs with that:
-None for now.

Recent stuff since the above post:
-A typo in a hex editor caused battles to freeze at some point, it's been fixed.
-Dalton was allcaps in Enemy battle messages.
-Fixed the carpenter trainee still mentioning a cafe.
-Umbral Embrace wasn't completely typed out.
-Updated some inconsistencies in the End of Time; a couple times with Frog for speech patterns (also "thee art"), but mainly mentions of the future weren't exactly consistent.
-Removed a joke in the party scene with Lucca in the second yes/no choice (sorry Axiphel, I may revisit this later though, the one there just sounded not quite in the right direction to me).

EDIT:  RHDN upload was recently synched with the MEGA.  Only big thing left to do now is MSU-1 when it's ready.

While preparing for FMV addition (when the original's ready folks, sit tight because I've got to make a special edition of it four times anyway) I've done a good bit of minor fixing.  You have gameplay bugs, misdone equipment and item descriptions, restorations, fixes of bugs to map music cues that somehow crept in, you name it.

Mega's all updated, RHDN needs one last hotfix upload (I've been plaguing them a bit, whoops).

EDIT: Aaaaand quick update to put line breaks in a multichoice when you get Marle back early in the game.  The cursor was breaking in because the choices weren't indented.
EDIT 2: Quick fix to the Truce Canyon portal return event, for some reason only Lucca's lines had indents?
EDIT 3: Lucca's talk about small robots being impossible no longer has indentation.  This was a relic of old testing.
EDIT 4: And then someone found another music cue bug in Guardia Throneroom for two patches.  How does this keep happening?  Submitted to RHDN.

This should be the last post I make in this thread for a while.  I've about hammered down my last form of both the script and item names, the biggest part of this hack.  The biggest parts are bringing up certain Earth mentions the original localizations of Trigger glossed on but Cross dug deep into (not really Woolsey's fault, no one really knew these would come to light a bit more in the sequel), and Prehistoric's theme of survival between humans and reptites has been strengthened.  Survival of the fittest, etc..  Also the Triple Tech Rocks are now Gems.  Minor but hey. :P

About all that's left outside of bugfixing (I believe I've got everything) or minor issues is waiting for FMVs to be ready.  Right now the Mega and RHDN download aren't synced, but they should be when the RHDN submission goes through.

Chrono Trigger just got a steam release.

Say what you will about it, but of respect for Square-Enix (and a slight bit of paranoia because this is CT) I will be lying low for a while with the CT bugfix.  Right now we're at a perfect spot anyway.  I'm not ending anything however, I'll be back to work at some point.

Thank you for the head's up! I didn't know it will be on Steam.

Since you are familiar with CT do you know is there a difference between DS and PS1 version? How is the Steam version?

The PS1 version doesn't have a great amount of changes.  The FMVs are the main star of that version (mostly why people prefer DS so much, it has the FMVs with no loading).  There are a few other misc. extras like a bestiary and playing back songs/videos.  Also loadtimes, but you can get around that with some emulators these days.

As for Steam... it is most definitely a Steam port by Square-Enix.  This is so obvious a mobile port that it says no emoji are allowed in the name entries.  That said it's a port using the DS version as a base, the mobile port was quite old in Square's Android/iOS efforts however.   It came at a time where Square-Enix was still getting around very small space limits so they nixed extras out of it.  Due to this, as far as I'm aware the monster arena from the DS version is still not present.  Also apparently they trashed the sources to the FMVs a long time ago, because the PC ones are just as compressed and the mobile version did not have FMVs originally.  It's probably structured like FFV/VI which is why it uses 2GB, it looks like the same tile smoothing method is a thing here but they didn't use wholly new tiles.  There are tile errors though, curiously enough.

tl;dr I believe it's a port of a port of the DS remake. :lame:

So the Stream version has all extras from DS, like arena, FMVs, bestiary and playing back songs/videos. ?

I will buy it anyway, but if its good at least as DS I will buy now, if not I will probably wait for discount (Easter is not that far, I hope for 50%).

As far as I'm aware FFV stands out of all FFs released to Steam. It doesn't use resized graphics as the others (FF6 for example), but completely new custom graphics. Later on I learned that the artwork was meant for another title :D

There is a little bit of content missing in the Steam version that DS has either way.  It isn't much, but the Arena of Ages was the one extra I liked the most.  It wasn't in mobile either, but it's odd that they'd put the FMVs in but not that.

Some of FFV's new graphics come from Dimensions, which funnily enough borrows a lot from V in it's battle systems.  For V I tend to keep on mobile and I'm perfectly good with it.  It's somewhat uncommon to think it but I find VI's port faaaar worse in general.  Outside of the graphics I never got into the UI (focusing on the bottom of the screen was a terrible idea even though the original did it) where V did a perfect interpretation of the original's on a touchscreen.

Yes, Dimensions! I was searching for the name in my head, but the title didn't pop out when I was posting :D
Its nice to chat with somebody that has objective view on Steam titles! Cheers mate!

P.S. If I may ask a short off topic:
Since CT is the superior technological version of Square titles prior to PS1, do you know is there any 8bpp graphics used in CT (SNES/GB/DS)?

Agreed, it's pretty rare. XD

I'm the wrong person to ask about graphics in CT unfortunately, my main focus is text.  You might want to check out Chrono Compendium though, if it's not in it's stores of technical information you'll find someone there with the info.

EDIT: It appears that the FMVs were actually quite the prize, the reverse of what I had thought.  Turns out the FMVs are remastered in the perfect way for MSU-1... minus two videos apparently (if this is true, that's more content not present in the Steam version).  This is a big step towards the FMV hack qwertymodo's been working on, and therefore a big step towards getting FMVs in here.

I couldn't tell you about the DS version.

:edit: Some of the SNES Mode7 sequences are.
Code: [Select]

They are compressed.

Looks like V4 came out a bit earlier than I had anticipated.  Mostly due to some fixes below.

-Magus line updating, as a result of me looking through them at the same time as Frog's.
-Spelling fix of Posess to Possess.
-Fix for SkyDark+Name Liberties, where the Battle Enemy Messages were corrupted (either that or a pointer went weird, it was listing other tables.  Either way, fixed. o.O)
-Fixed descriptions in SkyDark not always matching elements.
-While I was at it, in SkyDark patches, Lighting spells are now Thunder ones so I could update the descriptions to Sky.
-Fixed an issue in the Black Omen where a string was indented.
-In the Sunken Desert, the inner earth mentions are now all synced to Underground.
-Minor updates to Ozzie's hideout and the Black Omen's Entrance.

It's in the Mega and submitted to RHDN.  So... enjoy me coming out of my very short haitus!  I'll be making hotfixes when needed, but I doubt any will be necessary.  V5 either way will be the end of the road for this one, as there I plan for that to be the MSU-1 update.
