Impressive that you can do that with hacking. How do you find all this stuff in the code? Is it just guesswork, or is there some secret to deciphering the SNES assembly language?

Any sort of hacking work on a massive scale like this is a mixture of both, actually.

Yeah, this game is very well documented due to its popularity, but even so, some things have taken a while to figure out, due to the unexpected way they were done. Take Tent use for instance. You use a tent, and it calls an event, which then calls code to restore HP, etc. Fine. But events are tied to maps! Oh, okay. So if you're on non-overworld maps, it has to first change the map, then do the event... It's very convoluted sometimes. So to follow all that and change it, adding in the cabin, well, that was a big victory.

And yet there are still things we want to change, but haven't yet figured out (obviously). But those are getting fewer and fewer, so that's the good news.
5/31/16 - I have an assembly of the battle portion of C2, relocated to the F0 bank, which has both vanilla and patch code in my dropbox. I'll be updating it with additional patches as I have time. I will *not* be releasing it publicly, but ask me for the link and I'll share.

You guys must have a lot of patience. I've tried the whole trial-and-error thing, using a debugging emulator or whatever, and I just don't get it...I have to rely on ROM maps and hex editors to get what I want. Fortunately, there is already quite a bit of documentation on most hack-worthy games, but I'd like to figure out how to come up with this stuff on my own eventually... very difficult to be original when relying on the work of others.

And a lot of determination.

For the most part, so do we. Without that documentation, this would be a lot harder.

I've determined it's impossible to be completely original nowadays. We just go with what we can.

about the first video, how did you know the line was removed? is there an original script somewhere online or was it just added in later remakes?

also, is the flash screen and title screen done yet or at least a WIP? it'd be great to see a vid of that, also are you going to have any different music for the title just to set the mood? since you know a guy who is a wiz with sound hacking and all.

The game has a ton of dummied out lines. I was going to link you to The Loser Club but the link seems to be unclickable, I guess Djibriel is giving the page an update again or something. Check here later and see if it comes back up:

Splash screen.
And yes, it's done, we may add a few things to it but for the most part it's been done since before the demo (Demo got a special FF6 Advance inspired splashscreen). Only major change I've made to it has been updating the hack name. It doesn't play music, I wouldn't even want to attempt to since (I think) the SPC core isn't even loaded at that time.

so I'm guessing one of your goals is to put back in as much of the dummied out content BACK in eh?

Alternatively, you can take a look in FF3Ed (Yousei's editor) and look for the dialogue. It's not as reliable as the Loser Club, but if you know the script by heart, you would know what does and doesn't appear.

A goal at which I believe we are succeeding in.

what about stuff from any of the remakes? I think you've addressed this before but I can't find it.

I think SE was actually spying on us while they were developing FF6 Advance, several things we added ended up making it into that. Just remember, they ripped us off, not the other way around.
