Well, there's a pretty damn good chance a new revision will be posted after Thanksgiving due to human error (but I'd probably add some duh tips (which are more fun to write than the boatload of bugs I have to write up.. and that list is kinda long believe it or not).

Do they not count for the FFIV private development board, or something?

None of the private boards count posts. If they did my post count would probably be higher than Deathlike2's.

(Actually, probably not)

Very unlikely... because.. I make lots of random-ish posts more frequently than you think. Just dare to compile a document based on anything written on the FF4 board and you should just crap your pants in the process.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Weapons Inflicting Status
« on: November 25, 2008, 03:15:06 PM »
It seems to strictly be based on hit rate... after some thorough testing. The lower the hit rate, the less of a chance the status gets inflicted.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / The Truth About Sleep
« on: November 25, 2008, 12:00:40 PM »
This took a while to come up with, but I've finally figured the friggen thing out.

I've said before that Sleep had some sort of secondary thing going on, and I've finally come to the conclusion on what the hell that is...

When you first get the Slumber Sword (in the SNES version), there are a number of factors to consider when you realize it doesn't work 100% of the time.

Normally, the first to consider is level.. and I did some specific testing on that, it does absolutely nothing for it... so scratch that.

Even before that, I tried to manipulate Wisdom, but that was a non-factor given how other weapon-item spells are unaffected by this.

So, I finally tested pretty much every important stat....

It seems that Agility is where the action's at. Even though it seems oddball.. when you think about why it is successful, it doesn't naturally come to mind.

It also seems it is tied to how effective the Slumber Sword for inflicting the Sleep status.

Sleep status doesn't affect characters that often, but on some good testing, Agility significantly reduces the probability that the status is inflicted in the first place.

One more thing.. Agility has to be factored against the target's Agility, which makes it difficult to inflict the status on yourself.

Additionally, Sleep magic still follows the standard spell algo.. it just happens that the Slumber Sword does an extra comparison...

Also, I'm going to do a more thorough test of this, but as an aside, weapons inflicted by statuses seem to be driven by Agility.

This is only applicable to the SNES version of the game.

Perhaps, but I still love Kain's FF2US quote the best..

This was to Valvalis (Barbariccia).. it went along the lines of..

"You aren't the only one who fights in the air."

I'm actively reworking the guide for some new stuff.

I've finally come to the conclusion that there are no level driven spells (but Sleep is still mystifying to me), rather a lot of it is part of the spell hit rate bonus due to stat bonuses.

If anything needs to be addressed in this document, please say so now.

From this point forward, Wind elemental my official name for the Air/Aerial/Projectile/"Throw" (poor choice there for FF4A) elemental. It simply sounds better than all the other names.

Does it involve changing Rydia's name to Lydia?

Absolutely not.

I'll throw you a hint:

Arg, I fell asleep and so I'll put off submitting the stuff til tomorrow. Gamefaqs tends to updates its stuff in sometime in the afternoon (at least according to my time zone) so I will probably submit it at 12PM EST to reduce the wait time (I really honestly doubt they will reject my document, god forbid it's uber fucking huge relative to my previous docs).

in the critical hits section:

"Some weapons prevent critical hits from occuring[sic] at all,"

i don't know if you're looking for spelling corrections, but it's spelled occurring.

Yes, I'm looking for spelling corrections, but that's not primarily the goal. The goal is to be clear and consise and hope to remove most, if not all ambiguity (pretty much anything that sounds like it doesn't make any sense)

Quote
also, if it's not a lot of weapons, maybe a list of which ones prevent criticals? or maybe make a list at the bottom and have some kind of footnote to denote that?

That will be part of the equipment section.

well, if you're not looking to fix typos, i'll get rid of this also, but:

Elemental Attack Power Modifiers
--------------------------------

Anyways, if an elemental matches a weakness or
resistance, it is processed in a particular order, depending on which port
of the game you are playing.

-----------------------

The immune property is hidden, but is normally visible to use in the form
of the Zombie series of monsters. They have Darkness resistance and the
Immune property. This is the ultimate reason why Cecil does 1 damage. The
formula slightly changes with a critical hit is dealt.

I didn't fare well in English classes...

It's hard to make sure a friggen 70kb doc sound logical.
