 :bored:

After a cursory examination of the slick board, board of slickness, as you call it, I am unable to find a thread dedicated to telling me what your policy is regarding me posting a link to some of the work I did today, namely recording a cover song because this is what I do with my life.

If I must be struck by Bolt 3 by The Sombrero himself, I will ask this question.

Yang looks like a Curloid (that's a monster from the first Ys game). Was this intentional? Why's he blue?

http://www.romhacking.net/translations/2623/

I took a pass at this a couple days ago. It is so named because it cuts a lot of stuff out, particularly any form of inappropriate language, but it makes other changes as well, such as converting "Cafe" to "Pub" and "Gravitation" to "Magnetism."

Also, the pop culture references are mostly gone...Palom's line about William Shatner particularly.

This now resembles a legitimate script for FF4, if I do say so myself. With respect to those involved with J2e, who did some killer and pioneering work in the field when they made their version, I have shall we say, improved it.

Or not. I dunno, I guess it's all a matter of opinion.

I hope somebody gets their kicks from it, at any rate.

It's very much editable though. I used Windhex32 to edit it. It's there in raw ASCII text, no special characters needed. Although, you may have to fix the timing... God, Project II was a thing of nightmares sometimes.

It's just plain text with a special effect over it. The ending credits are the same way. :)

I did the same thing on FF4J. I had a table file, but I was unaware that the text is readable without it. :\ Huh.

Thanks Grim

In which bank is Cecil's line "That's enough!", from the intro?

I can't seem to find it. The message number would be most helpful, but I also need to know if it's bank 1 or 3.

Yeah, that one works.

I tried playing it...I wasn't very good. The tank controls kind of make me mad. Why can't it be RC, like Metal Gear? :|

I smashed a Taxi into a wall at 90 mph. It was amusing. :)

You might want to update the readme file to reflect the latest changes.

You can't be talking to me...? :/ Confused

I'll check it out tomorrow morning.

For some reason lately I've been prone to constant drowsiness. Maybe I need to just sleep for a day or two. :(

Periods that have an 01 as their hex digit are the most common, as they represent line breaks. I dare not move them.

Bartz' name, too, yeah. And other stuff. Basically all the commands the game's main program is issuing to the text boxes, to link them with events/etc.

Thank you, that is much more helpful. I like this format, and I like this project, and this is going to work.

'Scuse me while I whip out my WindHex  :omghax:

Edit:

00210E60 - Is "Wark! Wark wark!" acceptable? The ROM leaves almost no room to work with for the Chocobo's lines (I guess that's not unexpected). I had to lose the comma, and the double space after the first "!"

For 00210F10, there is only one space available. You need at least two, one for the open quote and one for the closed quote. Note that the Japanese script did not have this limitation.

Ahem. 002128A0 = I've finished adding quotes to the King's English (heh). I'm gonna test this and see if it works. :( I'm not optimistic.

Do you have a record of what's been changed already? How recent is it?

28
Uh, this concerns your Party Changing hack...

How do you handle the final scene? Do we just fade from Zeromus back to Cecil and start the Bridge Theme? Because that seems like a rather sharp edit to the story. Cecil doesn't die because of reasons? And the victory fanfare comes out of nowhere?

What did you do?
