Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: FF2/4 Unknown Weapon Bits

Seems to me that Hammers have a higher crit rate...the only weapons I can remember that have actually crit'd for me before that aren't hammers are any of the "holy " class weapons.  Crystal Sword, Legend, Light Sword, Excalibur, White Spear.

I think you might want to try the Crystal Sword some more.. it critical hits rather infrequently.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: FF2/4/4A Status Resistances
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:46:15 PM »
You still didn't answer my question about the Immune property.. what exactly is it?

Sorry, I missed this in your other post. It makes it so you only take 1 damage from whatever elements your armor resists.

Ah, ok. As an aside, that seems to have precedence over the absorb property of the Cursed Ring.

Does protection against Gradual Petrification also imply protection against Petrification and vice versa?

No, they're separate from one another but nothing in the game actually has one set without the other.

So, unintentionally, the Gaea Robe is just as resistant as the Aegis Shield... (at least it has some value as solo Cockatrices have been known to be evil )

Do you have any idea what is causing the Poison protection in this game to not work at all?

Also, are there stored messages if you were to inflict toad or mini status via a weapon attack on an enemy?

Does the Glass Helmet have any status resistances?

No, it does have the immune property though.

What exactly does that property imply?

Was the Poison protection ever set on the Ribbon (exception being FF4A Jap v1.1 or Euro version)?

If the previous answer to that question is yes, AFAIK, it was never enforced.

Yes. The Ribbon protects against Poison, Darkness, Silence, Pig, Mini, Toad, Stone, Instant Death, Slowing Petrification, Petrification, and Curse.

Hmm.. that still wouldn't explain Poison resistance being enforced until the revised game.  :bah:

What about the Adamant Armor, Crystal Armor, and Crystal Ring?

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: FF2/4/4A Battle Order

As an addendum, this order also affects how the R button rotates the character sprite on the map.

Food for thought. You can somewhat test for weapon/armor attributes/resistances by attacking yourself.

For instance, Kain will have a hard time killing himself with the Dragoon Spear while equipped with any of the Dragoon set equipped.. yet he will do more damage against himself with the White Spear.

:wtf:

That would explain why Cecil always goes first, even though Edge clearly beats him out in agility. I wonder, is agility a completely useless stat then?

This applies mainly against "First Strike!" attacks, but also if all character agility were equal (it isn't usually the case in most instances).

I'd like to amend that a little bit. If there's a slight difference in AGI and you start with no battle ready status (in other words, no First Strike/Back Attack/Surprised), sometimes the order will be a bit inconsistant and/or favor the order that I've listed.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / FF2/4/4A Battle Order
« on: December 13, 2007, 10:36:14 AM »
This dawned on me more when FF4A came out.. but basically.. there is a battle order priority of your characters, based on their position, unlike FF5/6.

This applies mainly against "First Strike!" attacks, but also if all character agility were equal (it isn't usually the case in most instances).

This totally ignores what row your character in.

Here's the order:
1) Middle
2) Top Most
3) Bottom Most
4) Top-Middle position
5) Middle-Bottom position

The most obvious way of seeing this grouping is via saving.

The benefit of knowing this is trying to align your characters in such a way to determine who goes first. I would assume most people would try to align characters with high AGI along the top 3 positions... and eventually leaving Rosa in the 5th position at the end of the game. This also helps in attempting the Silver Shield on Rydia trick/bug.

Edit:

Additional Note: This order behavior also applies character addition/joining and level up messages.

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: FF4ET Equipment Changes

I need to look through Easy Type's weapons again, it's been a long time since I went over them.

I also need to correct you, there is no such thing as a Bamboo Sword in Easy Type. The weapon is called "こぶたのしない" Piglet/Piggy's Sword. It's the same name the Piggy's Stick uses in the Japanese version of FF4 Advance.

Edit: No weapons have the extra damage against flans property. Do you want me to list all of Easy Type's properties?

I'm basing it off your "barebones" translation of FF4ET... which I presume is yours.

Sure, why not.. I doubt that much has changed from FF4...

As long as I've used the above weapons (for bit 1).. I don't remember critical hits with said weapons... if at all but rare. Think about how often the Crystal Sword critical hits.. and that really dawned on me.

A bow being a shield?  :wtf:

Anyways, does the back row property more like FF5 or is it "cumulative" that it gets applied to the other weapon. I presume it is like the former, but I'll test the latter a bit...

My testing shows that it severely hinders hit rate... as hit rate affects the damage output you can do (that's the other part of hitrate that you might think is crazy, but I believe this is the case). This is most apparent with Cecil+Kain in the back row at the beginning of the game. Eventually they tend not to miss, but their damage is hindered about 60-75% of their potential... not as drastic as 50% though.

This is partially why Rosa has the Aim command, which attempts to maximize her damage potential with bows+arrows. Unfortunately she can still miss very early in the game though.. even with the Aim command.

Edit: Testing shows it is not cumulative with Edge using a Boomerang.

Edit2: Rosa's Aim is obsolete if you are at 99% hit rate (achievable with the Elven Bow at level 99)... so something like the Samurai/Artemis Bow still benefits from Aim. Think about how this applies in regular battles (more obvious in FF4/4A, but less obvious in FF2). This is the same reason why the Drain weaponry is not as powerful as it could be.

The Silver Sword sucked anyways since the Slumber Sword is better. The Bamboo Stick replaces the Silver Sword in drops as well (the Mithril Golem drops it as a result).

Are there any weapons in FF4ET that even touch the flan multiplier? It doesn't seem like it...

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / FF4ET Equipment Changes
« on: December 12, 2007, 11:36:22 PM »
I'm pretty much aware of a number of equipment changes that were made..

I'll probably do a complete list later.... but I did notice a few things.

Drain Sword: There is no more Giants/Zombie/Flan modifier applied to this weapon.
Drain Spear: Same as Drain Sword.
Bamboo Stick: After Piggy is afflicted on the target by this weapon, the Piggy won't revert.. which is gotta be awesome. Obviously this weapon was the brainchild for FF4A's Piggy Stick.  :bah: Unfortunately there isn't a weapon that inflicts Frog or Mini....

Anti-machine and two handed are handled separately from these bits. The only thing I can think of for bit 1 is maybe an increased chance or critical hits.

That could be it.. Cid's Hammers seem to do critical hits a lot, now that I think about it.
