Final Fantasy IV: The After Years (Wii)
The month sure went by fast, the next three stories are due out Monday. I figured I'd better finish Palom and Edge's Tales, since I don't think I'll be getting back to them before the final story is out. Anyway, I finally made some progress in Palom's Tale. Rather than trying to complete the challenge dungeon, I headed back into the lodestone cavern and leveled up there. The monsters were much more manageable, but you get stuck there and have to play through the whole ending again, which is kind of irritating. Luckily there's a healing pot right next to the chest that contained the faerie claws in the original, and I just gained a bunch of levels there, rather than needing to sit through the whole ending so I could go back to Troia and restock. Once Palom learned Bio things really turned in my favor and I was able to get through the challenge dungeon. The moon phase really has an effect on this party, even maxed out at level 40 I can only get through during the full moon (which lowers physical attack power and raises black magic damage). It hasn't been a really big deal with any of the others so far.
I'm maxed out in this one now, but I need to get 99999 gil. This is the developers' way of taunting you; you'll have maxed out gil in every other tale, and nothing to buy with it. This one, you need the money, but the monsters drop so little that the only option you have is to slog through the challenge dungeon fifty times... The reason you need the gil: If you buy the member's writ in Troia's pub and watch the show, you can buy a member's
card in the dressing room for 50000 gil. This one lets you into a new area where you can watch another pointless show, but in one of the dressing rooms after the show you can buy new "Queen's" equipment for Leonora. The three pieces of armor have low stats, but block just about every status effect in the game when combined. The Queen's whip is like the piggy stick, it turns enemies into pigs on hit. I think that was a poor choice; you're not worried about magic at all in this tale, a weapon that inflicted mini or toad would be much, much more useful. Anyway, you've spent about 65000 gil now (price of the card and equipment combined), but there's a
VIP card available for 99999 gil. I'm hoping this one gives access to equipment a little better than the rest, since it's going to take forever to get that much gil again.
No real progress in Edge's Tale. All I need to do, really, is get the party up to level 40 or whatever the max is. I could go for a tail, too, but I haven't had any luck with those yet. Since there are five characters in this party it takes a really long time to gain levels, but they're all so weak that killing one or two of them off isn't exactly a great idea.

Finished both of these. The 99999 gil gets you a black tail, which is completely reasonable compared to how hard they are to get in the other tales. That probably means the black tale won't get you anything worth using, though.
