I honestly don't understand the TOSE font fetish... there's always a different font for each version for some reason or another.. although I can understand the various languages will need better fonts available, but it's kinda rediculous.

The FF5 US font seems alright as a replacement.

Well, like I said last page, the capital "M" and the lowercase "g" (speaking in terms of the 16x16 font) are the only ones that are still from the old font set. The music player font needs to be updated as well. Seeing as how this is just taking off a few pixels and a copy/paste job, it shouldn't take too much time.

If you'd rather tell me how to do it rather than keep bugging you to fix it, I'd be more than happy to.

Mega :bump:

The only description at the moment that seems poor is the Twin Stars, where the '.' is at the edge of the window.

Noted, I'll fix that if I bother to work on this again.

A reference pic for the sake of having it:

Oh, you don't plan on completing this (any time soon, at least)?

...Well, I may as well get the old, original ROM with the Stripper Restoration hack rather than having an incomplete patch...

One line running over equals incomplete now? I have no interest in working on this because I have no interest in using it anymore, I have an actual cart, I'm not going to waste space on my flashcart just to have a better font.

 :edit:

Bah, forgot about the (very minor, mind you) issues pointed out on the first page. I might as well fix it, just give me a day.

Were there any other strings that spilled over? I'm not releasing this thing until I'm absolutely sure I'll never have to touch it again. I fixed that erronous "B Button Dsh." string and "Equipment/Best Equip." in the menus too, by the way. I'd love to update everything to the most modern official naming but I'm not putting up with this game's pointers.

Hooray! My whiny schoolboy bitching once again saves the day!

EDIT: Oh, right. Contribution. Uh, I used the "Have all items in Fat Chocobo" cheat and Twin Stars appeared to be the only one left with spillover issues. If you wanna make 100% sure, I think they can still be grabbed from the GameShark.com website.

I'm concerned with any strings that use the menu font, not just item descriptions. I fixed some errors with characters that only appear in the credits tonight, I'll probably get a patch ready tomorrow.

Well, uh, one pixel of the shadow on the number "4" disappears when it's displayed in the "Gained X experience points/Obtained X gil" text, but that's a little...trivial. So much that only a font nut such as myself would notice.

It's probably the 4 in the second font, I'll take a look at it.

 :edit:

I'm not seeing any problem, I probably already fixed it.

I'd suggest you post it here so vivify can play test it before random nagging occurs after a release...  :biggs:

Yeah, that's a good idea:

http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/ff4/ff4aefonttest01.zip

I haven't decided what to do with the accented characters yet so they're a bit of a mess. The one font already has them as wide as the normal characters, the other is using the standard FF4a thin font. I really shouldn't need to do anything with them since this is an English-only patch but they're available for use on the Namingway screen. They're going to be ugly no matter what.
