I forgot to mention, open up the included table files (they were created by Novalia Spirit, and edited by me slightly to work with Cartographer) to see the terms he used for the different control codes, so you can also make use of them in your edited script.

If you want to give the dumping part of this a go:

http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/ff6/ff3ustextdump.zip

You'll need to do two things to use this:

1. Drop a copy of Cartographer into the directory where you extracted the files. You just need Cartographer.exe, nothing else.
2. Copy a ROM named Final Fantasy III (U).smc into that same directory.

Just run Final Fantasy III (U) - Dump Text.bat and it should spit out 28 text files containing most of the game's text.

I've been kind of busy working on a new GoldenEye map for a new community project, so I haven't looked into simplifying the insertion process. Once I do it should take me all of a few minutes to get it packaged up for a final release.

I think these are great!

Could you post a screenshot of them being used in-game?

Play the European version of Lufia 2; from what I've heard the US release is actually missing a ton of code. I don't know how true that is, because I can't imagine the game working at all.

I haven't forgotten about this, I just haven't been on my computer much the past few days and when I have I've been working on other things. I want to make sure everything is working as intended before release, and I'd like to try to track down one more pointer table for the dumping commands.

These should be complete:

It's funny how little the general sprite assembly changed from the NES games to FF5. FF1 was missing a lot of the animations, but what was there was put together the same way. FF2-5 have pretty much all the same animations, put together in the same way.

On the subject of RAM, I'm debating whether to try upgrading past 2GB or not. According to NewEgg, when I bought this computer, my motherboard only supports up to 2x 1GB. I was looking at the manual for said motherboard earlier though, and that claims it supports up to 2x 8GB. I'm running the 32-bit version of Vista on a 32-bit processor here so there's little reason to go beyond 4GB now, but it's something to consider in the future rather than building a new PC (which was my plan once I had the money and the need for something more powerful). My question is, should NewEgg happen to be right and the manual wrong about this, will there be any ill effects to the board or the RAM itself? I want to be able to return RAM if it doesn't work.

I need to reformat but I don't know how and I don't want to lose things I'm working on. Mine's been pissing me off something fierce (random resets) loud clicking sounds, the fan going hay wire (I recently took a bunch of dust out of it, but it didn't help really).
I plan on buying a new one when SC2 comes out.

It sounds like you're having more problems than a simple reformat can solve (random resets are usually overheating, which makes sense if your fan is acting up). To reformat, all you really need to do is insert your OS CD, restart and boot from the CD, chose to reinstall (instead of repair), wipe your current partition and make a new one, then just install onto that partition. Windows installations are really straight forward, on XP and Vista there are like two prompts to select your language and region. You'll need to back up all of your important files unless you have the OS on a separate partition (you probably don't, if you just started using your computer "out of the box").

Reformatting might be in order, if you have a way to back up your stuff, and still have access to your Windows install disc. I'd still run the virus scans first though, just to make sure you're not backing up any infected files.

For anything that uses pointers, you'll just have to create an Atlas header for them. I also dumped the fixed-length strings but I'd suggest just using a hex editor to change those, it's way too easy to accidentally delete a character and have to search through 255 entries to find it.

The dumping portion of this package is done, now I've just got to set up a batch file to insert everything, and do some testing.

Pretty much. You'll have to do a little editing to some of them before they can be inserted.

It just so happens that I'm putting together an archive of everything needed to dump (almost) all of FF3us's text. It's almost done, I'll post it here when it's ready.

You need to save your levels in the map editor window, then save the ROM itself in the main status window.

As for Pandora's Box, maybe you guys should assume a lower profile and stop posting updates on Romhacking.net?
"Oooh! Oooh! Like dis!?"

:isuck:

Double  :isuck: for posting that in the wrong area!

These are all really good, better than some of the custom sprites I made for Pandora's Box (I always thought my base sprites showed through a bit too much).
