Please tell me I'm not the only one who never found these before...


You can walk into this wall.


And you can grab these two chests. I knew about the items being in there from my old Game Genie days, but I never knew there was an actual way to get to them without cheating.


The weapon shop has a wrath of Zeus instead of a thunder claw in the Japanese version. Easy Type has the claw like FF2us.


They're even accessible in the GBA version, unlike the hidden chest in the Smith's house.

cool.  Mynock's guide (linked to here: http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?topic=537.0) does cover it, though it was news to me, as i haven't played more than 2 minutes of the game.  as the matter of fact, i shouldn't even be in this subforum, spoiling a classic game for myself.   

slightly tangential: what's with the bogus characters around "Thunder Claw" in the one screenshot?  that doesn't look like Japanese, but it sure ain't English, either.  also, what's with the background stripe through the dialogue boxes?  is that a normal in-game issue, an emulator problem, or a side effect of ROM hacking?

the garbage characters are from dragons' partially complete translation of ffiv easytype, I believe. As for that line, I've never been back there. Didn't know you could, so I don't know

Old news to me.  When I found the first set of "secret chests" back in the old days I litererally "pushed" every walkable wall.  At least it provided HUGE replay value to the game back then.     *edit*That's how I found the Change Rod, pushing all the walls.

There's also the one that JCE mentioned in Mist..

There's also the Blacksmith's place, directly east of the stairwell. However, for some fucking lame reason it was removed in FF4A (like the Ether at Rosa's House).

Don't forget the two Carrots in the large Chocobo forest and the hidden items in Silveria.  And the hidden chest in Baron's waterway passage.

Cavespeak. Pieces of various enemy and item names I squished together since I had so much unused font space.

It's an emulator problem that was introduced in the newer versions of ZSNES when they removed a hack that made them display correctly.

You need to go up the stairs then walk through the wall when you come back down. I didn't know about this one until a few years ago when JCE mentioned it was missing from the GBA version.

ok, you got me. i hit "a" against every bit of wall and ground. i can't walk through anything. i've tried every bit of grotto that i can walk against. where is this thing? can i at least get some kinda hint?

The tip was what was IN the chest.  If memory serves it was the Venom Axe?  Which rocked.

ooooh, I was in the adamant grotto. I thought that was what you meant.
