FFIV DS and DQIV DS
« on: November 22, 2007, 01:38:19 PM »
The good news first. Final  Fantasy IV has been confirmed for a US release in the recent issue of Nintendo Power magazine, and it will be coming sometime in 2008.

Next we know Square enix has been translating DQIV to english and 4 other languages thanks to some rom hackers finding unfinished text for the game. So here's hoping for a US release.

Now the bad news, While we know FFIV is coming out here next year, we don't have a solid date yet, so it could be Christmas of next year before it comes out. (lets just hope it doesn't) And DQIV hasn't been officially annouced for a US release yet. Here's hoping both games come out soon next year.

The gaming gods are really shining down on DS owners aren't they?

Completely off-topic but FF4 runs pretty good in the newest alpha version of SNEmulDS until you access the menu, which currently displays garbage. If it wasn't for the menu problems the game would be perfect, it doesn't seem to have any of the tile priority issues most SNES games have. It does have sprite priority issues but I seem to recall reading that those would be corrected (for all games) in an upcoming version.

*Crosses fingers for the eventual FF6 remake to be on a stronger system than the DS.*

The DS is more than powerful enough for a FF6 remake if it can handle FF4. Remember FF4 is actually a lot more complicated, larger battle formations, more characters in the party, faster battles, etc. Since it's not out yet I can't say how well it'll actually play, but if it plays smoothly I can guarantee they could do FF6 on the same engine and have it come out perfect.

Well, I want an ultra-pretty and non-gimped in the sound department remake of FF6. PS2 quality at least. >.>

Don't discount the DS's abilities just yet...

If the screenshots of FF4 i've seen are any indication, it's above n64 quality, but not by that much. The FF6 remake I imagine is a full scale PS3/X360 masterwork. >.>

the problem I have with that is I actually prefer the SD look as apposed to the super realistic look of the cut scenes, I mean I like detail, it's more of a stylistic thing for me.

SD and 3D are two worlds that should never mix, IMO...

I think 3D and human characters should never mix, SD or not. They always look terrible, at least to me. I would have liked to see graphics more in a FF-Tactics-style fashion, and likewise for the cutscenes.

I'm the same way, I really like the realistic character models but it would be very strange to play the game with them.
The SD look just works better for playable characters, as it always has.

Ya know, all these remakes are cool and all, but seriously, I feel like I have played through all the early FF games enough times...I didn't even bother getting FF 1 and 2 Anniversary edition for PSP, even though I have a PSP and could easily afford the games. Now Dragon Quest IV - There's a game I'd like to play...I have the Japanese version on PSX, but seeing as it's in Japanese, doesn't help me much :P
