does anyone know of a good pc game controller?
« on: September 21, 2008, 10:18:56 PM »
i've been all over amazon and newegg, but i don't know good from bad.  the last one i bought(a gravis xterminator digital pro, anyone heard of it? they're awesome!) i absolutely fucking loved. i can't use that, because it won't work with vista or win2k3.

can someone make some good recommendations?  i just want to play emulated games without my keyboard again.

I have a USB adapter that lets me use two PSX/PS2 controllers, far better than any PC controller I've ever used. I had a Logitech wireless controller a friend gave me, thing took six AA batteries and ran dry in about two weeks of regular use. I also owned three Gravis Gamepad Pros, which are basically PSX controller ripoffs, all of them started acting up on me for no apparent reason.

 :edit:

This is it:

Bigass URL

It works fine on Vista (and Ubuntu, amazingly enough), you don't even need to install the drivers.

hmm... i'm honestly not sure where my psx is, if it's still around anywhere...

might that work with the xterminator?  i mean, if it won't work as it is(it has a usb adapter), would it work with that thing?

i kinda just want to upgrade at this point..  i just can't seem to find anything like the xterminator.  there are lots of ps and xbox-shaped controllers(which i think i'm gonna go with)

:edit:

thoughts on this?

it seems like what i want, it's nice and big like xterminator, and is supposed to be easily configurable and also fairly inexpensive.  i think we have a winner, unless someone else knows of something better.

Well, I personally think the adapter is the best deal, $8 with free shipping can't be beat but if you don't have a PSX controller handy I guess that would be a problem. That controller might be good, I really don't know, I personally hate the Xbox's controllers though, they're so uncomfortable.

yeah, i can say pretty much for certain that i don't have a psx controller handy, so it looks like it's gonna be this controller. i can't seem to find anything better..

that's the other one i was trying to decide between, besides the one i posted above. i didn't really know the difference, besides the xbox-shaped one seemed to operate like the controller i used to have.

i didn't see that review before by the college kid about playing snes games.  hmm.. plus it's wireless, which is nice, and cheaper than the other one i posted.  i think that's gonna be the winner, thanks ist.

That pad(And somewhat altered versions of it) have been getting high scoring reviews for years.

Here's a good one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826127209

That's the one I've been using for most of my games for the past 6 months. It works wonders.

I also got USB extensions for my NES and SNES controllers, from RetroZone.  If you don't actually have a NES or SNES controller, they can mod one for you at extra cost, to fit in a USB port. It'll work with Wii games too!
