Yeah, that's why I'm not too interested in it right now. I generally only buy games that are actually
fun. I was only going to buy it to have it shipped off to be dumped, and then sell it. Now that I know a ROM is out there, I couldn't care less.
What I don't get is that they clearly put a good deal of effort into the engine, and while the map ports are pretty half-assed, the gameplay is just terrible. I don't know how in demand these Chinese pirates are nowadays, but I doubt they've got to rush them out in such terrible shape. I can understand things like the SMW NES pirate having awful physics, since that's actually pretty difficult, but balancing stats in an really RPG isn't.
The maps do bug me, too. This isn't FF7, you could easily port the maps over as-is with some downsampled graphics. Even if they wanted to keep using the FF3 graphics (which they clearly love), the layouts themselves could stay the same. Something like this has the potential to be really impressive, FF4 was still grounded in NES limitations really, so it wouldn't be that hard to get working. The hardest part would be the battle engine, but I think even that could've been ported over if they wanted to.
(There's a sad part of me that wants to move to China now, so I can develop NES games as a living...
