FF4 Famicom Port

I found a copy of this on eBay and was considering buying it, but now that I know it's dumped I don't think I'll bother, unless the price stays really low (which I doubt it will - collectors will drive it up, I'm sure).

Fun to watch . . . but I'm sure not so fun to play. It looks like another good idea that wasn't executed very well.

In other news, I started up my hack again last night, after a four month break of being too busy. I'm hoping to have it finished by November (which would be three years from when I started hacking FF4). I'll keep you guys posted.

Yeah, that's why I'm not too interested in it right now. I generally only buy games that are actually fun. I was only going to buy it to have it shipped off to be dumped, and then sell it. Now that I know a ROM is out there, I couldn't care less.

What I don't get is that they clearly put a good deal of effort into the engine, and while the map ports are pretty half-assed, the gameplay is just terrible. I don't know how in demand these Chinese pirates are nowadays, but I doubt they've got to rush them out in such terrible shape. I can understand things like the SMW NES pirate having awful physics, since that's actually pretty difficult, but balancing stats in an really RPG isn't.

The maps do bug me, too. This isn't FF7, you could easily port the maps over as-is with some downsampled graphics. Even if they wanted to keep using the FF3 graphics (which they clearly love), the layouts themselves could stay the same. Something like this has the potential to be really impressive, FF4 was still grounded in NES limitations really, so it wouldn't be that hard to get working. The hardest part would be the battle engine, but I think even that could've been ported over if they wanted to.

(There's a sad part of me that wants to move to China now, so I can develop NES games as a living... )

Simply

The grinding you would probably have to do to get stuff done... simply crazy.

Though... I think one of the items summoned an Imp to attack... if I saw that correctly.

well I highly doubt such cartridges still have much ground although I'm born & living in the PRC :wtf: and afaik only 2-3 small companies are still producing such stuff
and yeah the game sucks (so does most of the other games from that company), played for about 10 minutes with an emulator and get bored in it.

btw, from what the dumper written the cartridge costs him no more than $5 I think.

Yeah, and that's about what it's worth to me. That copy I was watching on eBay went up over $50. I don't get these people who would pay so much for something that's not rare and not even a good game.
