Hello,

I have played and beaten all of your hardtype hacks. I thought they were fun. I wanted to thank you for releasing hacks like this, as I am the worlds biggest fan of FF2. I am now getting into your FF2 Impossible hacks. I have had no problem progression through the game so far, but before I invest too much time in it, I was wondering if these impossible hacks are actually possible to beat?(one of them also had a bug to where you couldnt make it past the first auto battle in the opening scene, but i re-did the patch and fixed that) I am asking because I am only interested in it for the challenge, if there is no dialoge text change. I have beaten FF2 US over 50 times so I already have the story memorized. So, please let me know. It seems completely possible to me that you could beat the game without gaining any EXP, as you only need 1 HP to be alive in battle. I just want to make sure, since the title of the hack says "impossible" You rated the hack an 8 out of 10 (the ver I am playing) in diffulculty, so this leads me to believe it is definitly possible. I recommend you make a 10 out of 10 diffulculty (but still possible to beat) hack in the future for hardcore gamers like me who need a real RPG challenge. I like playing bosses that kill me 5x before I beat them. I don't even think I died 5x total in any of your hardtype hacks. One of my greatest challenges was defeating Omega in FFV, in all Japanese. I had the game imported with a convertor for my SNES way back before it ever came out on the PS1 in america. So, I had to play in all Japanese, and it took me over 100 hours just to figure out how to beat Omega. It took me 500 hours to master the entire game. Now, that is a real challenge. The first step in making a real challenging hack is taking my advice below-

(First a little about me.....)I am a hardcore RPG fan and my first RPG ever was FF2 us...so I started out on a good note. There has been no game to this date that has even come close to this one.  My 2nd RPG was the 7th Saga, and that was a kiddie game compared to FF2 US with no weapons or armor. You're probably wondering....so I'll explain. Since it was my first RPG and I was just a kid at the time...I had no idea about "equipping" weapons or armor. So, in other words, I managed to beat the entire game without equipping any weapons or armor. I always wondered why the game was so much easier the 2nd time I beat it. Anyways my suggesstion to the owner of this forum is to make another hack of FF2, to not allow the player to equip any weapons or armor on ANY character. Also I would recommend making the enemies a lot harder, and raise MP values for spells. Also take out ALL either items from the game, as I did not use those either. Limit the amount of Cure potions you can carry to less than 25. This will provide the challenge of a lifetime, and if one could discipline himself to do these things on your own (don't use any either items, don't buy more than 25 cure potions at a time and don't equip anything) you could at least turn FF US into a  very challenging game.

Well let me know about that US impossible ver. I just want to claify that you beat it already.

PS- I just downloaded the US Insane hack. How do you rate the diffulculty on that one?

Since you're talking about JCE's work, I've moved this to his subforum.

119 bugs fixed and counting.

I think JCE might be working on another FF2 hack already? I'm not entirely sure. I might have read about it or I'm just thinking about the Hard and Impossible versions.

Also I think this website has the hacks available, you could do these things yourself. With the hacks I've experienced, they're pretty straight forward and easy to manipulate. (Unless you need a hex editor. I can't figure that out.)

Mind if I ask why so many people love FF2 as their favorite RPG?
I love it too, I've gotten though about 20 play troughs in my life time, but I find it's extremely linear character selection and lack of deeper character alterations (items), there's only so many ways I can play it before I've done that.
FF3 is my favorite. You've got a wise variety of characters to choose from (eventually) and even more in combinations and you can rig them for power, speed, magic, stamina, hp, mana, none of the above, low level as well as solo.

At least with the version of Impossible I have, I don't think it's possible to beat Robot Lugae.  Laser is a guaranteed kill on anyone it hits, and Kain isn't fast enough to Jump all the time.

I'm not sure if this info still applies, but one of the things JCE did allow for this hack was drop those Silver Apples from the Liliths. This item should make your game easier, despite being crippled in the EXP gaining.

Also, take advantage of the fact that Dr. Lugae (solo) should be easier to beat if you use the Thunder Claw and perhaps the Lit Arrows.

There are no claws in this game that I've found.  Yang is the most worthless character.

Thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.  I'm taking applications for beta testing.  I need to know a couple of things.

-Number of times you've played the V1.2 FF2usHT:
-Are you a ROM hacker:
-If so what projects have you done:
-How much free time can you give per week on beta testing:

Thanks for the interest in playing my hacks.  As far as I'm aware I did make it possible to beat but slim.  The version on my archives on this site should contain the latest version.  The Silver Apple (among a few others) were dropped in for those who need a bit more help.  I made no alterations to the text/story just the experience and a few others.  A few monsters give exp if memory serves...but I think it is delegated to a few bosses and the final lunar core floor before Zeromus.

My latest hack has taken a backseat to life.  As soon as I get back on my feet I can work on it.  I'm having to sell my laptop so you'll forgive me if I have to start over.  :(

Ew.  Well, that's something, but with most characters under 400 HP, and Laser doing ~1100... that's a lotta apples.

JCE's hacks tends to need a bit of testing for oversights..

It's still fun in the end though.
