Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Re: "Weak" Elemental
« on: February 09, 2008, 07:24:28 PM »
Some questions then...

Does it increase the weaknesses of the following...

Darkness
Holy
Drain
Aerial

I don't recall any monsters being uber weak against arrows... or Darkness (there are a number of monsters, but I don't think it was 4x damage) or Holy (there's a ton of these) or Drain (none of these exist).

Also, can you tell me if the Golbez that Tellah fought is weak vs Holy and if so, 2x or 4x damage?

The only way Golbez takes so much damage is by being weak vs Holy @ 4x damage. I took a look at the spell power and compared to BSiron's (insanely accurate) FAQ for magic calculations.. it would take a character of 44 Wisdom to do approximately 9999 damage assuming that the target has 0 magic defense and is not weak vs Holy. Tellah has only 16 Wisdom.

I also want to know if Zemus was weak vs Holy. He probably isn't at all. Fusoya starts @ 40 Wisdom (remember that his starting equipment boosts his Wisdom, but 40 is the actual base).

Spell is successful in general when the caster's level is greater than the target's level... which operates very much like Odin by comparison.

Spell automatically fails when the boss bit is in use.

Well, Weak works easily on the Dark Elf of FF4A because we're comparing against a level 5 target... which is a near sure bet when Tellah is a minimum of level 20.

So.. I've determined how Weak works.

I don't even know.

In the end, the last time I had to choose between font choices was deciding if "uppercase" or "lowercase" were preferable in TOP.

So I asked my friend what Barrier was.  He looked at it and said, "I... really don't know... what's a Lunar Curtain do exactly?"

Ooooooooooooooooooooohh boy.  :banonsmash: :cookie:

Final Fantasy IV Research & Development / Gird/Endure Behavior
« on: February 09, 2008, 01:35:35 AM »
I probably should test this on my next runthrough of FF4 (the original), but Gird is a very simple command...

Casts the equivalent of Protect on Yang's self (in other words, a self targeting command).

However, while testing the Barrier status... I made Yang use Gird while going against a Wicked Mask... and for some reason this spell is reflected. Under other normal circumstances, a Reflect spell generated by the Items or the allied spell of Reflect works fine.

I'm not sure what actually happens.. but the magic effect never hit the Wicked Mask... so perhaps it was simply nullified.

Stupid FF4A bug. Occurs on all FF4A versions.

Barrier does not change anything statistic wise, nor does it magically change your damage output, whether it is magical or physical.

Fine. Just a suggestion.
MY suggestions don't take too well with people doing big-scale projects.  :hmm:
Have you seen just how much bitching there has been because the original wasn't in? It's in the RHDN thread, during the early stages. Some in the ZD thread too, when we were still posting updates there.

It's not you, of that I can assure you. We're just tired of the suggestions being focused on the fonts.

Unless you're taking actual bug reports or balance suggestions, it's a waste of time. The demo is never the final thing.. and I haven't played the demo yet. I'd rather be surprised first and then I'll do the bitchslapping later.  When you ask for feedback on something, you'll certainly get it from me...

Besides, I'm FF6 "hacked out" (just hack playing) for a bit. It's not fun until I see something shiny shiny!

I ultimately don't understand the hatred for the original font, even though it isn't a VWF, but by comparison, we're not comparing something illegible.

Which enemies have this?

What is the behavior when set?

(The following two questions ignores your response to the previous question.

Are you able to tweak it so that increased/total resistance to Weak is possible (other than the boss bit)?

Are you able to tweak it so that Weak works most, if not all the time?

Barrier is given along with Reflect status by the Lunar Curtain. No enemies have it IIRC.

I also wondered if it was a lunar curtain thing, but I've never used a lunar curtain.  I thought it just cast reflect and image on you simultaneously.

I only remember using it for Bahamut's trial, but I never really noticed.

Maybe if someone timed the duration of the Walls. I normally go with active ATB+battle speed at 1. I don't think there is a difference.

If there is a difference, Barrier could be a boost for Reflect duration while you still have it.

I will have to look at this a bit more...

Do you know anything further than that?

This status is dispellable and sticks until the end of the battle. That's all I can gather at this time.

The Tower of Bab-il documents say that Barrier is "Can't be hit with physical attacks (except Jump?)". I don't know how correct that is, as that's the limit of my knowledge about Barrier...  But it might be right.

The exception doesn't sound right. It would imply that Barbariccia have this protection as well. However, that simply is not the case.

This status would also occur in the Golbez-Rydia scene as well. Kain never gets hit by the death sequence, but he does not manage to hit Golbez on the way down.

More than your garden-variety ghosts.

Does this mean Ghost #1 and 2 get a makeover?

Yes, I already know, but Where's Waldo when you need him?

This is what happens when you access new things.

I'm trying to recall if there were any notable changes made to the PSX version of this game... or it's just a nice bonus... (FF4+5 could use that, but I digress)

Saving many times.

Any reason to have that? Like, for use for a spell or something? I never find those counters useful for any reason.

but for now we'll concentrate on the newer stuff. Like this, for instance:

Can I get a Grenade with that?

I'm not sure if you know this.. but I did figure out some of your unknown bits, and posted them in various threads.

The only thing close to a Barrier is Zeromus before using the Crystal on it.
