TEH FFIV Parody project

I'm trying to make a FFIV parody, GBA, by replacing one of the languages (German) with the parody script made by WhiteFlagofWar on GameFAQs. I've barely figured it out, any pointers would be appreciated. Also, the parody script is only for the main story, so I would highly appreciate it if you guys could help me with some NPC dialogs and/or class commands/magic/whatever.

Umm.... I think I posted this in the wrong topic.

anyway, the start is going along smoothly. One thing, how do I change the enemies' names?

Also, how to add scenes? I want to add some dialogs to the part in the beginning when Cecil attacks the Wizards and takes their crystal.

All of the text is stored in the script - all of it. One giant block, which is highly unusual.

As for adding events, no idea. I don't think anyone has ever documented the GBA version's event script. My guess is that it's nothing like the original, given how differently the rest of the data is stored.

I tried editing the monster's German names to English in the script, and saved it, but it doesn't show up. I did this for the first two monster types shown in the airship. For some odd reason, however, the magic spells (Blue Fang, Red Fang) Works in the change.  :scared:

Ah, those are unique monsters, and have their own names separate from the normal Floating Eyeball and Zu. Try changing the second instance of those names you find, they should be near the end of the original FF4 monsters.

For now, the only things I need help is some jokes for the NPCs. I can't come up with dialogs for all of them!

It goes all the way up to right when you are able to move your character for the first time. The patch modifies all the dialogs in that room by the NPCs, and two guards in the next room to the south, one guard to the north.

To play, use FFIV Europe version. When at the language selection screen, select Parody.

Umm... I just got this Cartographer, then modified the scripts with Notepad II... I didn't take out the other languages, just replace German.

Then I used Lunar IPS patcher to make the patch.

That's the nature of this game's script (all of the text is in one big block - shorten or extend one line, and it all shifts). Veta, I didn't even think about that when I suggested Lunar IPS to you. You should probably use KaioShin's xdelta UI instead. It's about as simple to use as Lunar IPS, and the patch will be much smaller. (xdelta can handle moving data without duplicating it in the patch.) You can get that at Romhacking.net too.

this is what i figured was going on, although it's not phrased properly . spent some time reading about xdelta the other day.   you beat me to suggesting it. :tongue:
