Well, they solved this issue in a fairly simple way in FF4 DS...there are no two-handed weapons anymore.

Oh man, that was perfect, I really needed that laugh.

Does that apply to all elements or just those two? If it applies to all, that might explain why lightning works so good on Cagnazzo regardless of his form.

I agree that there should be a "hard" copy of this information somewhere but I'm thinking a big document like JCE's rather than a website. A website, even with the nicest CMS, is too much of a pain to keep up-to-date.

That said, anyone want to dig through every page of the forum and compile all the hacking information into one big document?

Meh, there's never been an issue with an update before, this one was just a pain in the ass for some reason.

This is the only reason I took the forum down this afternoon:

That's 4362 errors caused by things this update broke, all of which were relatively painless to fix. Did you notice the arcade and theme switcher missing? How about the overhauled PM menu? I didn't, until I went looking for them, that is.

Edit: Oh, and the YouTube and spoiler tags. Basically anything that modified the default theme's template got busted.

I fixed up a few things that got broken during the installation. If anyone comes across anything that doesn't appear to the functioning correctly please let one of us know.

Damn, over a month without an update? That secret Goldeneye project is still in the works, albeit at a slower pace that usual, and I've been working on documenting quite a bit about the game for another project that will probably be going public very shortly.

That's not why I'm making this update though, I just wanted to draw some more attention to all the work that Deathlike2, Phoenix, and everyone else has been putting into documenting the lesser known aspects of Final Fantasy IV. Head over to the FF4 Research & Development forum and check it out if you haven't already.

Thanks to Deathlike2 for these screenshots of unused portions of Yang's battle script.

Maduin frozen in ice instead of Tritoch? Imperial soldiers Leo and Banon instead of Biggs and Wedge? Fighting in Magitek armor?

I've heard some of that information before, but not all of it, and it will prove to be very useful.

It's a real shame those books were never translated and brought out over here.

I didn't really feel like going through and splitting these from the topic about Yang's battle script, mainly because we were all commenting on these and the script in the same posts, so I decided to stick them in their own topic for further discussion.

And here are two far less interesting shots from FF6 Advance:

thanks dkk, that's what i surmised, but i don't know all that much about how the game works. anyway, thanks a lot for those interesting pictures. does any other info about the proto exist? like, since this is my weekend, if i spent a day or so lookin around the internet, would it possibly be fruitful, or are those pics all that's left?

I've never seen information about it anywhere else. The best place to look would probably be Japanese fansites, unfortunately language is a major issue there and automatic translators only get you so far.

A little more about the FF6 shots I noticed before but forgot to mention in this topic, Tina already has her name and there's a "1" instead of a blank space when only one enemy is present.

Edit: About the FF4 shots, it's interesting that they actually bothered to use the left-handed attacking sprites for when the character is facing the party, although Kain is wrong. Shame they didn't do that for back attacks, would've been a nice detail.

any translations on what those monsters were called in that stage of development?

They're the same as the final Japanese version.

i was thinking, did anyone actually verify that that's maduin? i only ask because, in the esper world, at least a few of them shared that sprite.

That's definitely Maduin, he's the only one that uses that sprite. That said, he could just be a placeholder, they may not have drawn the Tritoch sprite yet.

The pictures also show that the fight/attack command was available when the M-tek status is applied... though I think you could still do that in some hacked/glitchy/coded circumstance.. but still interesting nonetheless.

I had a Game Genie code that would do that, I believe it just applied the armor sprite without actually giving Magitek status. For all we know there may not have been a Magitek status at this point in development, the armor could have just been for show, or it could be what's giving them those high HP totals. I doubt that though, that's probably just for testing purposes.
