General Discussion / Re: NFL season (2011-2012) week 15
« on: December 18, 2011, 07:23:12 PM »
Guys, I'd like to thank my lord and savior... oh wait, that's not my line. My bad guys!

When you see Ochncinco catch his first TD in a Pats uniform (not counting preseason), either hell froze over or someone else showed up (maybe God?) That literally describes this week's stats for everyone.

Scores Ending Week 14:
Leno: 12-4
Gil: 11-5 (Steelers pick counted as a loss due to being late)
Me: 11-5

Combined Scores Ending Week 14:
Mate: 19-13 (DNP weeks 3-14)
Gil: 116-79 (DNP week 5)
Leno: 128-80
Me: 133-75

Scores Going Into SNF Week 15:
Leno: 6-8
Gil: 7-7
Me: 7-7

We all think the Ravens will do their part, but I'm the only moron that picked the Steelers.

Some notes about the games today...
CBS Early - Dolphins @ Bills - Should that result have surprised anyone? Fitzpatrick is more than MIA for most of this game...
FOX Early - Redskins @ Giants - Wow @ the upset. Did you know you can spell LIE from Eli? Just saying. The Giants team didn't show up, so now the division is still back in the Cowboys hands... but that very last game might be flexed to SNF for Week 17. That surprisingly might just be a good thing.

Tebow time was cut short. I apologize if Tebow decided to take a really really long sack. Lots of upsets today, so don't feel bad if you felt like divine intervention was involved... or the Vegas guys are great at pulling a fast one on you.

Please no more Team Tebow is awesome talk... for now.

There's a few things I do recall.

Tristan's Ninja Stars IIRC has a high critical hit rate... perhaps it's a property or a value. I think the Dragon Claw and a few other weapons are in the same boat... perhaps making Bombs do critical hits would be nice (I don't think it ever happens with Bombs)

Also, consider making Holy a Drain elemental. Drain hits are very random... the damage is more or less fixed, but the healing done by it is as random as the claw's status infliction rate. Drain's obviously more noticeable when resisted.

498
Holy AFAIK is non-elemental, so the only real way of tweaking it is nerfing it. Flare can be neutered by giving fire resistance on the enemy...

Perhaps neutering the armor defensive stats would help bridge the defensive gap. Trade defense for resistances...

I'm not sure how much the monsters are tweaked resistance-wise, but immunity to stone (Dragon Claw) and doom (Life spell) should help. It might make some sense to somewhat nerf the Dragon Claw as a result...

Cure has a very high healing power naturally IIRC. I'm not even sure how the numbers are crunched there.

Week 15 schedule:

3 more games baby!

Quote
Jaguars @ Falcons (Thursday)

Falcons - Meh @ the matchup.

Quote
Cowboys @ Buccaneers (Saturday)

Cowboys - I suspect the Cowboys will rebound to an awful team.

Quote
Panthers @ Texans

Texans - Meh?

Quote
Redskins @ Giants (division)

Giants - These matchups are getting worse.

Quote
Dolphins @ Bills (division)

Dolphins - When will the Bills stop laying down?

Quote
Seahawks @ Bears

Bears - If the Bears don't win this, they don't deserve to be in the playoffs. Seattle is not that great of a team.

Quote
Saints @ Vikings

Saints - Ponder this, Joe Webb was in last week's game due to ineptitude at the time.... almost won the game too especially when the refs missed a key call.

Quote
Bengals @ Rams

Bengals - Could these matchups suck more?

Quote
Titans @ Colts (division)

Titans - Maybe there is hope for the Colts...?

Quote
Packers @ Chiefs

Packers - Palko is a turnover machine! Especially when that got the coach fired...

Quote
Lions @ Raiders

Lions - Go figure. I don't know which team will get more penalties.

Quote
Patriots @ Broncos

Broncos - I am simply hoping for the reverse lock. This god and Tebow talk can only be summed up in one word: INSANE

Quote
Jets @ Eagles

Jets - Beating the fish doesn't make up for this lost season for the Eagles.

Quote
Browns @ Cardinals

Cards - If these two teams play, do they make a sound?

Quote
Ravens @ Chargers

Ravens - Rare SNF game that will have sunlight visible.

Quote
Steelers @ 49'ers (Monday)

Steelers - How did the 49ers lose to the Cards... seriously?

Congrats to the Giants for the upset. Unfortunately, that means Eli and the Giants are 3-0 in New Cowboys Stadium and play at home for the rest of the season.

Giants iced the kicker (at least there was no extra TO to have a shot at that ) and blocked the following attempt.

Game was interesting.. going back and forth and the Cowboys had that shot to win... if only Romo completed the pass to Miles Austin late in that game.

The omen: Romo stumbling into his own endzone after being hit for a sack...

Leno: 10-6
Gil: 11-5
Me: 12-4

Combined Scores Ending Week 13:
Mate: 19-13 (DNP weeks 3-13)
Gil: 105-74 (DNP week 5)

Scores Going Into SNF Week 14:
Leno: 11-3

Same picks for all (Cowboys+Seahawks) so no major change in standings...

I would disagree with that. It's only one game though...

Anyways, I've finally seen my first complete Team Tebow game, and the script almost always runs the same way. Close game, and then things seem to go Tebow's way, and then they win. How? I don't have any idea how...

However, the guy that was the goat, could've easily been the hero of the game. God must've had an intervention with Marion Barber. From scoring the potential game-winning TD, to forgetting everything regarding situational football... that was the same guy. He made a great catch to redeem himself (although it's not entirely clear it was a legal catch), he gets stripped of the ball and Team Tebow recovers.

My only outside gripe was what the announcers had mentioned... you need to be more aggressive in trying to run out the clock. Running the ball for 3 and outs doesn't guarantee victory.

In any case... what an incredible game... in the 4th quarter. Outside of that, it wasn't actually as interesting.

Week 14 schedule:

Coming down the stretch!

Quote
Browns @ Steelers (division, Thursday)

Steelers - More terrible TNF matchups continue!

Quote
Chiefs @ Jets

Jets - When your winning score was a hail mary before the half, you have deeper issues.

Quote
Buccaneers @ Jaguars

Bucs - Trying to come up with a comment here is difficult.

Quote
Patriots @ Redskins

Pats - Once upon a time, Rex Grossman was a Bears player...

Quote
Falcons @ Panthers (division)

Falcons - I think the Falcons will rebound, but wow at losing to the semi-crippled Texans.

Quote
Colts @ Ravens

Ravens - The birds hovering over the Colts might suggest that Peyton might not be a Colt that much longer.

Quote
Eagles @ Dolphins

Dolphins - The fish are playing well... unlike the team they are playing against.

Quote
Vikings @ Lions (division)

Lions - Ponder does have a shot to win this IMO.

Quote
Saints @ Titans

Saints - I wonder how much worse the Saints are on the road....

Quote
Raiders @ Packers

Packers - It's amazing how Team Tebow is now slightly ahead of the Raiders in the division. Who'da thunk it?

Quote
Texans @ Bengals

Bengals - Only the Bungles can screw up this pick.

Quote
Bears @ Broncos

Broncos - Hanie is nowhere near as epic as Tebow.

Quote
49'ers @ Cardinals

49ers - Congrats to the Cards for finding the magic to beat the Cowboys... every freaking single time (at home?)

Quote
Bills @ Chargers

Chargers - Where art thou the Bills? Two underperforming teams...

Quote
Giants @ Cowboys (division)

Cowboys - I wouldn't underestimate the Giants here. They did put up 35 points against the Packers.

Quote
Rams @ Seahawks (division, Monday)

Seahawks - What happened to Sam Bradford?

perhaps the most shocking part of all of this is that a guy named "Tony Romo" isn't even partially Italian.

Seriously!  I don't know what the hell he is!  LOL

He's Mexican IIRC. You wouldn't think he is, but I don't think that really matters.

The issue here is mostly the head coach's fault. Of course he ultimately has the final say. I don't hate Romo, but I do see some flaws in his game (would've been nice to see some of his game, but that was obscured for obvious reasons). I'm not sure if all of the proper situation football notes would ever be drilled into him.

Although I believe the Cowboys will probably win the division out, the problem they face is that they are still mediocre. How does one still lose to the really awful Cards? The Giants are not world beaters either, but they actually did put up a decent effort against the Packers despite their loss. It is somewhat difficult to imagine that the NFC East is a gimme for any team, especially with the circumstances.

I'm sure this info would get you more pissed off:
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/06/romo-deserves-plenty-of-blame-for-field-goal-gaffe/

Part of the problem seems to be lack of awareness in situational football. Romo is supposed to get as much yardage he can and be aware of his TO situation. I don't think this is drilled into him enough.Watching teams fail to do the proper clock management under a 2-min drill/hurry up offense is why they generally continue to lose these close games...

Well that F'ing sucked ass.  What a way to end the game with no one being able to tackle to save a touchdown.  BAH!

Wasn't freezing your own kicker part of the problem? Even I don't understand that.

Scores Ending Week 12:
Leno: 11-5
Gil: 13-3
Me: 10-6

Combined Scores Ending Week 12:
Mate: 19-13 (DNP weeks 3-12)
Gil: 94-69 (DNP week 5)
Leno: 106-70
Me: 110-66

Scores Going Into SNF Week 13:
Leno: 8-6
Gil: 10-4
Me: 10-4

Gil has decided the Lions will roar to victory. Despite everyone picking the Bolts, I don't think anyone wants to watch MNF.

My secret message to FOX: I DID WANT TO SEE MORE OF TEAM TEBOW INSTEAD of the Packers @ Giants game.

That's a very interesting description of the game... although I still think that Hanie line says exactly what the score ended up being. Now you lose Forte and it's unclear how long he'll be out, but before that time you're more than barely limping into the playoffs... now you might not get in at all. He was the Bears offense (Cutler is like the #2 weapon in that offense IMO). Now you have close to nothing on offense. Every game will be a bigger struggle than it should.

It still sounds to me that Palko sucks, but that Chiefs defense kept the game close, which when you consider the game that had with the Steelers... I guess that d does have its moments (it's been up and down for the season).

Marion Barber as the lead back isn't ideal. He has the ability to still be the #1 back, but has the health that would limit his snaps to a 3rd down back.

Nothing in the Packers schedule threatens them. I've tried to imagine the scenarios.

I'm not sure if Suh would've make enough of an impact against the Saints... he had trouble with the Packers on his one-on-one matchup. He would be less needed for the Vikings. Even then, there's an expedited hearing for Suh's appeal... he might lose a game (unlikely, but not improbable). The Lions schedule is actually harder to accomplish than the Bears by far.

The major problems with the Bears is that of the Mike Martz.. again, failing to properly adapt his schemes to a rookie QB. Also, the matchups that would appear less difficult are actually significantly more difficult. The Chiefs suck, but Hanie could make Palko look like a franchise QB or something (although, it will be an Orton game AFAIK). Then you have Team Tebow to face. I'm sure that'll be a lot of fun. The Seahawks are a very uneven team (they've beaten the Giants, despite really sucking against the NFC West).

Nothing is that guaranteed with the QB situation the Bears have. It's more like the Texans in a way... you might just make the playoffs, but what then?

Late :edit:
