If someone's not done this already... a list of unused monster formations (well, particularly ones that involve regular monsters, not the special boss case variety), that would be appreciated.

The only unused formation that I can see so far (at least in doing my hack) are the following:
0x2E - 2 Bombs +2 GrayBombs - they are arranged differently to probably increase the difficulty 0x3B - 3 Imps/Goblins + 3 Imp Captains - they are arranged the same like the 3 Imp Captain + 3 Needler formation...
Hmmm.. there's a whole section of monsters that were not used in the Giant...
0xD3 though 0xD6... - interestings stuff

There are copies of a few boss battles, I don't think I ever bothered figuring out which ones were used and which ones weren't.

Golbez and the Elemental battle are the only cases I can think of at the moment.

i just looked up those formations in zyr's editor. 214(d6) would certainly have been interesting in the giant.

I will manage to find a nice evil use of the Evilmask in the Giant...
Anyways, formations 0x7C and 0x7E are not used in the Tower of Zot. I've never actually seen formation 0x7F, but that's normally a rare formation...
Although, there seems to be a ton of formations that went unused in the Sealed Cave though.

The following formations are not used in the Tower of Babil (via Underground entrance)... 0x114 0x123-0x125
I get the feeling this is like one of those "the head doesn't know what the hand is doing" issues...

Hey, at least it's not as bad as FF6! :tongue:
Squaresoft has had the track record, so finding the W-Item dup bug in FF7 after its "invention" in FF4 (and technically goes as far back as FF2 NES IIRC)...
