Title: Movies of playthrus
Post by: Lenophis on November 16, 2007, 02:41:52 PM

I'll open it up with a rather odd movie of Super Metroid (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Super%20Metroid%20-%20odd.rar). In it, I do the bosses completely out of order. (Ceres - Ridley, Crateria - Bomb Torizo, Wrecked Ship - Phantoon, Maridia - Botowoon, Maridia - Draygon, Norfair - Crocomire, Norfair - Golden Torizo, Norfair - Ridley, Brinstar - Kraid). This is not meant for speed, but more a :wtf: movie. :whoa:

--Edit--
You know, it helps if I list the emulator used. :bah: Made with Zsnes v1.51

The Megaman X 1 and 2 movie here is one of the most awesome things in the history of history.

Castlevania Retold 2.0 (http://dragonsbrethren.elazulspad.net/files/movies/cvretold.zip) (Hack Download) (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/13/)

Seems I did a movie of this before, I don't remember doing one but it's in my movies directory. Anyway, this one is in two parts because I had to stop in the middle, part 1 goes from level 1 to the end of 4, part 2 is level 5 to the end. I make some laughably bad mistakes, once again proving that I can be awesome at a game until I record myself playing it. I purposely show off the "stairway to hell" level design bug in level 4 and accidentally found a new one in level 6 (you'll know what it is when you see it). I have some nerve complaining about overly hard hacks when I designed the hell that is the level 6 gauntlet. For some reason I have a rosary in level 7 instead of a cross, I think an older version of Stake had them both labeled as cross and I must've never caught the mistake. Why did I give everyone a "special thanks" title in the credits instead of their real contributions? For the record:

Speaking of credits, there's a second set hidden on the titlescreen:

I think the second quest is impossible, I may give it a try in a bit.

Anyway, enough complaining about my hack, watch the movies.

Not to play a downer, but with what version of Nestopia did you use to make this?

1.37. I figured there would've been an update by now considering how soon it came out after 1.36.

(Recorded with ZSNES 1.51 (http://www.zsnes.com/))

I've had the urge to play through this game again the past few days, so I decided to make a movie of my playthrough.
This goes up to the cave to South Figaro. I don't have anything interesting to say about it.

Goes up to the scenario split. I don't know what's worse, the fact that I completely forgot to buy Sprint Shoes or the fact that I didn't realize I wasn't wearing them until I was halfway up Mt. Kolts. I blame FF6 Advance for this, the 4x running speed is too fast for me so I've stopped buying the shoes in that. I accidentally sold SABIN's buckler, I meant to hold onto one for him.

Goes through TERRA's scenario up to the start of the Phantom Forest in SABIN's. Remember those Sprint Shoes I bought near the end of part 2? Yeah, I kind of forgot to equip them until SABIN's scenario...heh. Anyway, there's nothing really special in this one either.

This is the rest of SABIN's scenario and probably the longest of all the movies so far. Or maybe it just seemed long while I was recording it, I don't know. I get fed up on the Veldt and decided to move on, I hate when nothing good will show up.

LOCKE's scenario. I almost died against TunnelArmr somehow.

Defending the esper to Zozo. Fear my ability to buy equipment only to realize I already possess superior equipment.

It's Zozo.

I hope this one doesn't desync, as it's pretty long. Starts with me learning some magic, then the opera. My Ultros fight got off to a really bad start compared to normal, I usually kill him before he even has a chance to move.

The Vector continent up to the save point in the Magitek Research Facility. I got lost in the research facility a couple times because I kept convincing myself things weren't where I originally thought they were...

The rest of the Magitek Research Facility, the cranes, and the esper world. I got the cranes mixed up, which is a little embarrassing considering it happens every time I play this game...

LOCKE's scenario. I almost died against TunnelArmr somehow.
I think I know why. You seemed to have forgotten how Runic works. It will remain in effect until it absorbs a spell or until Celes enters another command.

Part 5 and part 6 each desync'ed, though replaying part 5 did fix it.

Your strategies have been vastly different than mine, and it's encouraging to see this game being played another way.

Hard Secret of Mana

As my webserver isn't really up for hosting files for now, I have uploaded to youtube..  These 3 videos are around 4 to 6 minutes long.

Episode 1 Part 1

Episode 1 Part 2

Episode 1 Part 3

This goes from the beginning to leaving the first town.

First video is better quality and is not alter to a lower MB than part 2 and 3. But it took me 3 or 4 times as longer to upload than the last two part... I'm gonna convert the First video to a lower quality version, but will not change the youtube, but will have it for my webserver when i get it ready.

Edit: Almost forgot, Name characters name is named after me, and All movies we're made in Zsnes 1.51 and converted over using the Lame and Mencoder that is used by Zsnes dumping command.

This is something I meant to post yesterday. Question, has anybody ever experienced the following:

The game is stuck at that point, but that probably appears obvious. To show it in action, I've made a movie of how to do it (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Sonic%202%20-%20stuck.rar). Requires Sonic & Knuckles attached to Sonic 2, and Gens+. This bug is also much more difficult to pull off with Sonic, so don't attempt it unless you have some patience.

I can't remember ever having that happen to me, it probably has though, I've had bad luck with the bosses in every Sonic game. Sonic & Knuckles's third-to-last boss (The one with the six fingers you need to kill) is the worst of them though, the floor in that room has bad clipping, I don't know how many times I've killed myself just running to the edge of the screen too fast.

Illusion of Gaia Beta

Beta? why are you playing a Beta? isn't it not completable?

It's completable, some things are diffrent in this American Beta, like names and such, and some of it's darker than the final release.

I'm playing this on Zsnes 1.51 using the Beta rom. Google it!

Note:  This is going on youtube as well.  It will be in SNES resolution too, so you'll see some black around the video.  I fooled around with my zmovie config and with the help of the Zsnes boards, I was able to change the recording from AVI to FLV for faster uploading and getting the file for youtube to actually be up in 30 seconds or a minute, than 30 minutes due to converting. :D

Edit: Due to the size of the ZMV's and an upload limit per post the ZMV's won't be released until after the game is completed. This will be in a RAR file with multiple folders, each with 10 files each ZMV - ZM9. Youtube movies will still be posted. Sorry for any inconveniences. All videos have been merged into 1 post.

This run will be replaced with another higher quality video after my FF1 and 2 DoS run. The videos are still up until then though.

Awesome, this should be a great watch. *watches*

--Edit--
part 1:  I'm a little surprised, you broked to get the first super missile pack, then go after Spore anyway?
part 2: "Here I go, bomb jumping my way up. Doo dee doo dee doo.......damn Geemer. Doo dee doo dee doo. G'ah, fuggit. *freezes Geemer and uses it as a stepping stone* I found that to be rather hilarious." I was more surprised at your ability to get the Ice Beam early, then getting out the long way. Overall, there are a couple of things you could've done to go faster, but overall I'm pretty impressed.
part 3: Ok, Maridia could've gone better. In that big room when you spark straight up, you could've optionally sparked diagonally up/right to get to that door quicker. Granted, that would've been faster on your first spark only, since your other two were pretty quick. Other than that, this was a good segment.
part 4: Went about as I expected it to.
part 5: This also went as I expected it to.

You're playing with the keyboard, right? You seem to be searching for your aiming buttons at times.

In part 1, I didn't wanna bother with the whole Crystal Flash ordeal later, that's why I went ahead and beat Spore Spawn.
There are a lot of things I could have done better...but as you know, when I play, whatever happens happens. I don't like using save states, etc to get perfect, because I believe a true speed run should be played through as is.

It shows, you pulled off some funky moves. A 2 hour run of SM is still pretty good, though I'm sure the hardcores will argue that it's not nearly good enough. Oh well, right? I was entertained, through and through.

If you have 10 bucks and have a ps2, GC, or Xbox controller, you can buy a usb adapter at walmart, 10 bucks so you can play against friends on zsnes is fun, and it also has two USB 1.2 Slots on it. Oh and Vibration works too if you want vibration on some of the newer games.

Got a new one to show you, this one of Sonic 2 & Knuckles, but ending the Death Egg very quickly (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/S2K%20-%20Quick%20Finish.rar). The only code used is the level select to get to the Death Egg. Personally, I didn't know this was possible until recently, because I kept thinking the fire would kill me. However, there's enough clearance to do it, so it's very possible. Requires Gens+

Ok, 4 movies will be posted sometime within the week. Two of Dynasty Warriors 6, two of Warriors Orochi. Both have a single player and multiplayer movie. All four combined are 1.6 gigs (all are 640x480 in reso, and have really good quality. not H.264 but at this rate who could tell?) The two DW6 movies will be about 750 megs in size (the smallest movie of all four is our DW6 multiplayer run).

Fair warning now, but they'll be up as soon as they are uploaded.

--Edit--
Both of us did our own encodings of the movies. He has access to the H.264, and we'll be doing quality comparisons, and whichever wins will be the ones you guys get.

This run comes after a few hours finding a VBA that doesn't mess up the video and audio when playing.

Anyway here's the first 20 video's and keep checking this link as more videos come up. :D

Just want to let you guys know, I uploaded 8 movies today, i have 9 movies to upload tomorrow probably more,  when i'm uploading 1 video, i can make 3 videos in that time frame, so i've caught up earlyer.. now i got more videos than i can upload tonight.

Hehe, i got so caught up in this I forgot to do a VBA version of this run.  I will have a VBA only run coming soon, the videos will be longer that 10 minutes + and will be check to see if the videos desync before putting up on the forums.

FF2 how ever will have 10 minute VBA movie files,  so they can be converted to AVI on the fly and will be able to upload on youtube with no problems at all.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check the link for more videos, 58 so far, with 59 uploading, I'm getting way ahead now.  Still uploading ones i did earlier today.  and I'm already up to 73 videos... just watch for those to go up tomorrow.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

73 movies up and more to come, i only made 6 movies today, been busy... Anyway have fun...

Also For my VBA only video run, Instead of this party, i'm taking out the White and Black Mage and putting in the Monk and Red Mage.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well 90 movies are on... wait, not really movie 86 is missing, I don't know what happen there.. I can't even access it on my computer, or delete it. If it's there when i boot up tomorrow, then i'm going to add it. if not, then :( sorry guys, computer glitch!

10 episodes have been recorded and are awaiting uploading, so 100 videos!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I finished the youtube run, but the videos won't be all uploaded tonight, which means you might see the final boss tomorrow, if uploading won't be a pain.

111 videos are up though (111th is uploading as we speak) i have 21 to upload tomorrow.

Tomorrow starts the VBA run.  VBM don't take up as much room as the AVI's do. XD New post on the VBA run tomorrow.

Just to let people know, I still got 10 videos to upload left, that means i've already uploaded 11 today..

*cough cough*

Anyway, I'm here to start the VBA only run...

You will need the following

VBA re-recording 19.3 :  Click here to get it (http://jxq.skuzz.com/emu/app/VBA%201.7.2%20v19.3.zip)

You'll need the rom: Click here to get it ;) (http://www.google.com)

then you need the attatched files to play the movies.

Just over nearly an hour and 30 minutes in just 2 files!

Here's what happens!

Movie 1: From the opening to Elfland or where it's called
Movie 2: Leveling around Elfland!

Total size for both files unzipped is 700kb and the rar file is 132 kb just big enough for 56kers to download without a problem!
Title: Re: Movies of playthrus

Movie 3 is out, and is over an hour long..

Here's what's in store for this little adventure, From Elfland to before the earth cave.. (still gotta make it to the earth cave!)

Edit: Max files size per post for the attachments is 196kb.. so i have to make a new post for each movie, I don't have a dedicated server that can allow zip/rar files.

Let's see how many times i get a game over trying to get to Elfheim...

Alrighty, about time, He'res movie 5 (was planing on having only 14 videos, but a goof made me have an extra video)

Thanks to Shinrin, I was inspired to do this (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/FF1&2%20-%20FF1.rar). It's a run of FF1 in Dawn of Souls, which goes all the way until all four bonus dungeons are completed. See the commentary for more. Made with VisualBoyAdvance v1.71
Part 1: Goes pretty smoothly, and ends when I decide to brave the Penninsula of Power.

Part 2: The time spent here is more meant for money than leveling, though the two go hand in hand here. However, after this large leveling session much of the story progresses. Movie ends at the entrance to the Ice Cave.

Part 3: Much ado about collecting. My run in the Ice Cave was much luckier than I expected, though my luck doesn't end there. Ends when I land at the Yahnikurm Desert.

Part 4: More time is spent leveling, but this time for the sake of leveling, to prepare for what awaits at the Temple of Chaos and the four bonus dungeons. Included are a couple of surprise encounters... Ends in the bowels of the Temple of Chaos.

More time spend in the bowels. It's the fastest spot to level in the entire game, so I decide to spend as much time as I realistically can down there. Interesting note, when each movie ends is when I made a fork to try and take out Chaos. All attempts ended in failure.

First movie involving the new dungeons, my first victim was the Earth dungeon. To take out all four bosses, I make four runs in. All four bosses die rather quickly. Ends near the entrance to the Ice Cave.

And now, the water dungeon. I'm not sure what possessed me to do the longest dungeon second, but I had a gut feeling that I would survive fairly easily in there. My feeling was confirmed for the most part.....until I got to Deathgaze...

Now begins my runs in the fire dungeon. I ultimately make a crucial mistake, and wind up never fighting Rubicante.

I park at Melmond, only to backtrack back to the airship. This segment is entirely a leveling session in the Floating Castle.

Run 1 of the water dungeon. My target first was Omega, since he's the harder of the two.

Run 2 of the water dungeon. The only target left was Shinryu...
And that, as they say, is that.

Final Fantasy 1 - DoS Run (restart!)

Yeah, I'm restarting this one over.  Anyway, this time I changed the last two charcters back to who i'm used to.  You still need that special version of GBA. I'm also leaving the last videos up for fun.

Now that I finally got a 24/7 web server!

This run is a few minutes slower than the youtube run.

For people who wants the whole thing, instead of downloading individually: Video 1 - 10 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-01-10.rar)

Video 1 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-01.vbm):
This run from the beginning of the game to after getting some stuff from Elfhiem. I started off just fine too. No extra leveling this time.
Video 2 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-02.vbm):
I had to make two trips to the Swamp Cave, First trip i got some money, went back to town got 12 antidotes, and finished upgrading equipment.  Slept at the end and only left with 15 Gil. Then I finish off, now I'm level 11 and at the ruin castle.
Video 3 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-03.vbm):
This run from the Ruin Castle to The town before the Earth Cave! Started the earth cave quite at a lower level.
Video 4 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-04.vbm):
Earth Cave part's 1 and 2. Better than the other GBA play though, I did quite well.
Video 5 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-05.vbm):
Class changing video, I die twice near the end of this video. Damn Earthquake spell, why do you have to be an instant death spell... Black mage is now the highest level character, and Fighter is now the last level character (black mage was level 32 before fighter hit level 31.
Video 6 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-06.vbm):
I was originally  going to split this into 2 videos, but i thought, what the hell... This covers 3 enemies i missed the youtube run. bringing me to 94% completion, i still have 2 monsters that aren't in the new dungeons, and 8 or so that are in the new dungeons . Anyway Have fun watching me kill two Fiends and getting stuff for the 4th fiend as well.
Video 7 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-07.vbm):
The Mirage Tower and Sky Castle, plus some leveling in the final dungeon! Hehe, the movie ends abruptly as I somehow closed out VBA... :/
Video 8 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-08.vbm):
Finish leveling in this place, and got some equipment and items. and Did all 4 runs of the Earth Shrine.
Video 9 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-09.vbm):
3 shrines in this one, but didn't finish the 3rd shrine as this movie goes on for about 6 hours, most of it's looking for enemies. Got all but one left to go.
Video 10 (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/downloads/FF1-10.vbm):
after more searching for it, i finally found it, so i finished up the dungeon, and went for chaos. you won't beleave who did Chaos in. ;)
After much discussion in #rom-hacking about a solo character run in FF1, I decided to give it a try. This (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/FF1%20-%20Solo%20Red%20Mage.rar) is my attempt. It goes from start to finish, ending with a rather curious attack selection at Chaos. Requires Nestopia v1.38 to watch.

By no means is it fast, as parts 6 and 7 are the two longest (I think) of all the parts. Part 6 is probably upwards of 3-4 hours, so take heed if you choose to watch that segment. Part 7 is about 2 hours, which is entirely a leveling session in the Ice Cave, though after that I decide to finish off the other three Fiends.

My apologies for it taking as long as it did, but I don't have control over the situation. Right now, only the two Dynasty Warriors 6 movies are up.  (Multiplayer (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/media/DW6%20-%20Multiplayer.avi) and Single player (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/media/DW6%20-%20Single.avi))

The two Warriors Orochi movies are still in the process of uploading, and I'll update this post with those two links when they're done. (Single player (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/media/Warriors%20Orochi%20-%20Single.avi) and Multiplayer (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/media/Warriors%20Orochi%20-%20Multi.avi))

Got one of Starcraft (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/1.15.2/THE%20defensive%20struggle.rep) now. This time around, Skiffles and myself play Rolling Plains (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)Rolling%20Plains.scm), and I get stuck in a bottleneck, simply because of how we were positioned. It was a 4v4, and one of our allies (orange) died very very early, which was an omen of things to come. I was Terran, Skiffles was Protoss, and we had a Zerg ally (brown). Because of the situation I knew we would be in, I build up as quickly as possible and bunker down for a long defensive struggle. What would ensue is a cat and mouse game that would last for a while, and considering we were outnumbered for as long as we were, we did fairly well.

Requires v1.15.2 and Broodwar to see, but damn is it worth it. :omg:

A Few notes concerning  FF2 A: First of all, FF2 can be a long and tedious game, I have 4 VBA videos of it, and most are a 2 to 4 hours or more long, and converting these to AVI would be tedious.  Also the game starts out hard, but once you start stat building, you're pretty much invincible to everything on the world map after you have 3000+ hp.  The funny thing is, My charters have nearly 5000+ HP and I'm not done with Minwu's quest of the game yet.  The game lets you become the most powerful thing in the game, before you even do the first quest,  and even before getting Minwu, as almost every town is open to you from the beginning.  I don't even see a challenge to the game after you start gaining hp and mp at the beginning.  If you're good enough, you can have Holy before you even get Minwu.

Tales of Destiny PSX

Ah good old Tales game for the PSX, I've gotten fraps,  and it works fine, but converting the videos over to a diffrent format is hard and a long task. Here's the first 25 minutes of the game, There is a Youtube version, (while the videos are in low quality, it takes a long time for the High Quality to come up,) And then there is a direct download.

What's the difference in the Youtube version and the direct download?

The Youtube version is recored at 2.1mb a second, this is done so the videos don't look like crap on youtube and are split up in an area upwords of 10 minutes (or a little over) max.

The Direct Download version is recorded at 768KB a second, but looks better than the youtube low quality version and has great sound, It's also smaller than 1 youtube video I upload, which ranges from 100 to 200 mb per 10 minutes. But it has no time limits on it. For example the first Direct Download of this video is 103MB and is 25 minutes long.

Update: I have decided to allow a High Quality and Low Quality version of the game play for the Direct Download. I also check Youtube this morning, Movie 3 is the only one that's available in High Quality Flash.. I don't know if or when the others will be.  Check this post for movie updates!

Anyway, enough talk. The links?

I'd like to see that FF2A video... I did something similar with my game, getting Minwu and just about everyone up to very high stats. Hell, with a nearly maxed shield stat most things won't hit you at all!

FF2.. FF2.. I thought about starting over and doing both videos at the same time.  That way it'd take alot less time to convert the movies from VBM to AVI.. (which can take days or weeks.)

Installing SC on this computer right now to watch it.

Watching the replay inspired me to play a bit against the AI:

Replay 1 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/starcraft/replays/white_is_stubborn.zip)
Every time I thought I had the enemy beat I found them at another expansion.

Replay 2 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/starcraft/replays/out_of_resources.zip)
The enemy ran out of resources before me, otherwise this one would've dragged on forever - I would've won of course, it just would've taken a lot longer without the fleet of carriers.

Both use stock BW maps since I don't have any custom ones on here yet.

Arctic Base (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(4)Arctic%20Base.scx), Picked Dry (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(6)Picked%20Dry.scx), Ancient China (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)%20Ancient%20China.scm), Frozen Banquet (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)%20Frozen%20Banquet.scx), Frozen Defender (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)%20Frozen%20Defender.scx), Coldeye Breach (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)Coldeye%20Breach.scx), Fractured Coast (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)Fractured%20Coast.scm), Kaer Taul (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)Kaer%20Taul.scm), and Rolling Plains (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/Starcraft/(8)Rolling%20Plains.scm).

King Lettuce made most of them, Frozen Banquet is mine. Lettuce even made a variation of Banquet (Defender), to try and even out the starts a bit. Rolling Plains is probably my favorite of that bunch.

--Edit--
Ok, both replays seem to be desync'ing. Did you use v1.15.2 to make these (it appears you did, but I want to make sure)?

White is stubborn - You sent up 1 marine and 2 SCV's to attack white, and white countered with 13 zealots, to which your base quickly crumbled.

Out of resources - This one didn't seem like it desync'ed, but it did, because teal wound up taking the two expansion spots, and you did seem to keep up with them taking potshots at you. At first, the fastest speed I played it at is fastest x2, but then I tried fastest and even then that didn't work. *is confused*

Yeah, that was a nice surprise when I got the patch.

Thanks for the maps Leno, I was just going to copy them off the old computer when I felt like it but this is easier.

I didn't have any problem with the replays, I even watched Out of Resources on fastest before I uploaded it because I didn't feel like sitting through it at normal speed.

This (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/starcraft/replays/stupid_ai.zip) is quite possibly the stupidest I've ever seen StarCraft's AI behave. Orange thinks it can take down my cannons with Corsairs and Yellow can't find the minerals directly next to its expansion and stops building. :finger:

I often wonder what's really at work to produce the AI behavior... the sucky pathing, or the sucky AI. I think both is at work, but I wonder if all the balance tweaks actually affect the AI building script...

Sword of Mana - Video Playthough!

I'm doing a youtube/VBA movie run of this game.. two infact, the boy run, and girl run.. but first the boy run.

Both video formats are being recorded at the same time. So, I'm having to do extra encoding to make the size of the videos for youtube at most 10:59 I encode them at 16:9 so they won't look funny in 4:3 in windows movie maker. There will be no direct downloads of the videos, if you want, you can get the videos off youtube, by Greasemonkey and the youtube plugin for it.

Note: Even though the video is linked here, doesn't mean it's processed yet. so if you get an error try again in a few minutes.

Video 0 - introduction (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJgUvsenkNw) Youtube only.
Video 1 - Boy run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_RZpmdGk1Q)
Video 2 - Boy run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WYWm-GoWrs)
Video 3 - Boy run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UacSoddfQCY)
Video 4 - Boy run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihEIx8waU2o)
Video 5 - Boy run (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7-MyVgPDKo)

For the VBA videos.

Note: Due to the lack of the job, and power going up, I have to turn off my computer at night. So if you experience any down time between 1 AM and 9 AM in most cases. The only exception is mostly Saturday which the server will be on at 12:00 pm or later.

You will need the emulator I used for the FF1 run. I think the link is there.

Video 1 - Boy run (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/videos/Sword%20of%20Mana/SoM-001b.vbm)
Video 2 - Boy run (http://talesoffate.dyndns.org/videos/Sword%20of%20Mana/SoM-oo2b.vbm)

Enjoy, I will either update this post, if no post has been made, or make a new post with the info here, sans the old movies, for the new movies.

 :edit: #1

Added VBM movie 2, the youtube video 3 - 5 will be up shortly as they are currently in the process of encoding.

 :edit: #2

The link to the Youtube Videos are up, Video 4 and 5 are still processing, so if you get an error, try again shortly.

Mega Man III (NES) - Part 1 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/megaman3-1.zip)
Mega Man III (NES) - Part 2 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/megaman3-2.zip)

Here's the movie I said I'd make a few days ago. Recorded with Nestopia 1.40.
Top Man
Nothing special, my timing was off a bit in the beginning.

Shadow Man
I considered dying against him purposely the first time because my energy was so low, but decided to give him a shot and (barely) pulled it off.

Spark Man
First death is here, jumped a bit too high. Otherwise nothing special.

Magnet Man
Yeah, that spot with the blocks was painful, it was like the first day I got the game all over again...

Hard Man
Nothing special.

Snake Man
I really didn't want to use an energy tank here but I had him pretty low and didn't feel like doing the whole thing over just because I was having a hard time evading him.

Gemini Man
Laugh as I slide off a block backwards to my death. I haven't had this much trouble with the water area in a long time, I usually bounce right over with little effort like the last attempt.

Needle Man
Purposely died the first time fighting him, but really didn't need to since I didn't take a single hit on the second attempt.

Spark Man Mk.II
Nothing special.

Gemini Man Mk.II
I could've sworn Flash Man took more damage from Shadow Blades than the Needle Cannon. Oh well.

Shadow Man Mk.II
This is the first time I've tried the Top Spin against Heat Man, it doesn't seem all that useful, but its damage is kind of random...

Needle Man Mk.II
Nothing special.

Break Man
You know, I think "Break Man" is less intended to be his name here and more a lame joke. Intermission Man would have made more sense if that's the case, but there's no way that would fit on the stage select screen.

Wily 1
Nothing special.

Wily 2
Did pretty good against the Yellow Devil. I have trouble with it sometimes.

Wily 3
Died against the clones the first time. It's funny how it stayed in the middle slot the entire time on my second attempt.

Wily 4
Damn Top Spin ran out against Shadow Man and I died trying to finish him off with the buster. Other than that nothing special.

Wily 5
My strategy against Wily kind of feels like cheating...

Wily 6
Nothing special, except for the Rush Jet hijinx towards the end...
Mega Man V (NES) (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/megaman5.zip)

nice, gonna start that up now.   :cycle:

most of the way through now. that was fun to watch. i need to start taking more advantage of nestopia's video recording. well, button press recording.

:edit:
that's the first 4 mm2 bosses. doing the next 4 now...

i figured this would be a nice way to make my first nsv ever. :)

:edit: 2

and 3 more...

now that i re-watch this, i change my mind a lot.

:edit: 3

and finally, the last boss and the first wily stage.

Mega Man II reminded me that I've been meaning to play through one of my favorite hacks (http://www.romhacking.net/hacks/9/) again:

The Adventures of Bass II - Part 1 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/bass2-1.zip)

It's been a long time since I played this last and I forgot a lot of the level layouts, I was actually more surprised by how much I remembered though. I'll finish up the rest of the stages tomorrow.

Got another attempt at MM3 (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Megaman%20III%20(U)%20-%20Leno%202.nsv), and I am getting better at it. Now I can make it as far as redux stage 4 before getting a game over. Don't read too much into that, though, since I died all over the place, and the game kept pumping out extra lives at me. Eventually I'm going to own this like I own MMX1 (Zsnes v1.36!) (http://leno.hypher.net/archives/movies/MegamanX1v1.0.rar) which naturally comes with a lot of practice and elbow grease.

/me considers renaming this thread Movies of Mega Man Playthroughs...

Anyway, Dr. Wily's scheme for world domination has faild yet again:

Mega Man VI Reverse (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/mm6reverse.zip)

As the name suggests I do the stages in the opposite order I usually do...and it's disturbingly easy. Just ignore the first stage of Mr. X's fortress, I was...broken or something. I'll finish the Bass II run later.

Mega Man IV (NES) (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/megaman4.zip)

Overall a pretty good run, there's an embarrassing death right at the beginning and the Wily 2 fight is horrible. I could've sworn he was weak against one of the weapons I was trying on him, so I checked a damage chart after finishing the movie and he's supposed to be taking 4 damage from the drill bomb, I don't know why I couldn't hit him with it. The Wily 3 fight (the one that's usually a huge pain in the ass), on the other hand, was unbelievably easy this time.

Last night I was presented with a challenge.

No upgrades (do Chill Penguin last).
No subtanks.
No hearts.

This (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Mega%20Man%20X1%20v1.0%20-%20nerf.rar) is the result of the challenge. In the end, I wasn't able to complete it. I got as far as Sigma, but that final battle is just too tough to dodge stuff. Needs Zsnes v1.36, and v1.0 of the rom.

Ok, now that the files are finally up, I can share them with everybody.

Four months ago, I had access to a DVD recorder which allowed me to do a run of FF1 to submit to SDA (http://speeddemosarchive.com), but that would fall through after a while. No grudges, no drama, nothing like that. But since the run wasn't going to them, I figured it wasn't fair to anybody that wanted to see it and suddenly not get it (there's actually a history of canceled FF1 runs there). So, I decided to encode them myself.

It's been one fun adventure after another (dial-up sucks), but both runs are finally up and running (http://leno.hypher.net/speed.php). Beware Team Pandora!

When I finished those, I still had enough time to do a few other things (http://leno.hypher.net/downloads.php?cat=3) (Radiata Stories, FF7, and FF9).

so, quick zsnes/snes9x video recording question:

when reloading a state during the recording, is the part of the movie that was skipped deleted, or does it show up just as you played it? do snes9x and zsnes do it differently, or do they both just show all the button presses, instead of cutting out the part that was "rewound" over when the state was re-loaded.

I don't even remember if Zsnes even allowed savestate loading during movie recording. There were serious enough desync issues with it, that they probably didn't want to risk it (Deathlike should be able to clarify this). If they did allow it, I'm sure the savestates used would need to be sent along with the movie.

No idea on Snes9x, the only movie recording I do with it is the occasional avi. And that's only done with the tracer because the regular versions don't like when I try to set controls to what I like.

well, let me explain. i was playing through super metroid, and i recently learned to mockball, and did it to sequence break. also, at the first room of red brinstar, i managed to get the power bombs before having to go into norfair, by making a pretty good series of wall jumps. a friend of mine wanted to see these things, so i figured making a movie would work.  zsnes 1.36 let me record and i was using 1 savestate because i kept screwing up the wall jump set in red brinstar.

i asked because i was watching part of a video of a playthrough of loz: parallel worlds, and the author had commented that he forgot that recording through zsnes would make him look a lot better than it should have because of savestates. that he was recording the right way now, through camtasia.

and, you're right, i forgot that i saw deathlike's name on the contributor list.  i should've just asked him.

You can't load a save state that you took before you record a movie, but you can however make a Movie Save State, which only works when recording movies, which will make alot of folders (one per movie slot)

Megaman III (NES)

I am not kidding when I say this, tonight is the very first time I've beaten the game without using savestates. To mark the occasion, I made a movie (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Megaman%20III%20-%20Leno.shmv) of it. There's ups and downs (including a couple lame deaths, but I was expecting there to be some), and even a potential game freezing moment (you'll know it when you see it).

Included in the movie is a subtitled commentary, and you'll get to see the lame jokes I came up with. Enjoy.

Made with Disch's not-at-all-final version of Schpune (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Schpune.rar).

Chrono Trigger (SNES)

This is a 20-part movie (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Chrono%20Trigger%20-%20Leno.rar), starting over from scratch. I try not to do any level building, but it's just not possible. I spend more time tech building than I do leveling, and I tech build, you'll know it. I'll either be fighting Nu, Rubble, Turret, or Side Kick.

Approximate running time of 12 hours. Made with Zsnes v1.51

Deleted old post and repost for the run has been restarted.. also added videos i haven't updated from the beginning of november.

Restarted!

I'm going to be playing Final Fantasy 6 again sometime soon and uploading on youtube.

Here's the thing I'm going to put a twist to this game. Every character will be given a new name. But first Let me introduce you to the character you can rename and give a brief description. The new names will be added next to the original name! (Some names have already been given because the people would fit the roll)

If you want your name on the list just let me know though a pm or something.. Also, if you want more information about this game, you can talk to me or Richard about it. Just message me first, as i know Richie is really busy.

The videos:

The playlist is in normal Quality. Click on the the video links to watch them in mp4 high quality.

And now for one of Snake Rattle 'n Roll (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Snake%20Rattle'n%20Roll%20(U).nsv), which is overly unimpressive. I get as far as level 7, which is where it all falls apart. Made with Nestopia v1.40

Batman Doom! (http://www.chocolate-doom.org/wiki/index.php/Batman_Doom) :whoa:

Click the link to learn how to play it. You shouldn't need to use Chocolate Doom if you don't want to, just something vanilla compatible.

Level 1 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/doom/dkkbmm01.zip)
Levels 2 and 3 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/doom/dkkbmm02.zip)
Level 4 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/doom/dkkbmm04.zip)
Levels 5 and 6 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/doom/dkkbmm05.zip)
Level 7 (http://dragonsbrethren.slickproductions.org/files/movies/doom/dkkbmm07.zip)

All were done on skill 4. If it seems like I don't know where I'm going at times then I probably don't; it's been about a year since I last played through this and I've forgotten a few things. I have no idea if I'll do the whole game or not.

 :edit:

Added levels 5, 6, and 7.

Double Dragon 2 - The Revenge (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Double%20Dragon%202%20-%20The%20Revenge.nsv). Or more accurately, the attempt at revenge.

At first it looks like I know what I'm doing, and for the most part I do. However, I just cannot execute that stupid knee as frequently as I want. In the end, I die where I expected to die.

:edit:

And for fun, a two (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Fire%20'n%20Ice%20(U)%202.nsv)-parter (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Fire%20'n%20Ice%20(U).nsv) of Fire 'n Ice. Both need Nestopia v1.40

I tried using FCEUX to make a 6-player movie for some subtitle goodness since Nestopia lacks that, but I can't find any subtitle options with it. So, f00 on that. Both movies require Nestopia v1.40.

:edit:

Considering all of the Rockman 5 Endless we did, I never did a real attempt of Megaman 5 (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Megaman%20V%20(U).nsv), until now anyway. I don't make it all the way to the end, but I do come fairly close. Keep in mind I don't know any weaknesses for Darkman+, so my weapon choice will be...hilarious.

I also broke the weakness order of the 8 robot masters because I was a moron with Charge Man.

Recently I got an itch to play Secret of Mana, for no real reason at all. I figured "hey, good time for a movie!" So, here you go (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Secret%20of%20Mana.rar). This is a 10-part series of the whole game. Beware though, once I get flammie then I get really lost. For some reason, I was never able to navigate SoM's map, ever. :isuck: Segment 9 (.zm8) is purely (omg see what I did there?) spell building, and then level building.

Made with Zsnes v1.51.

I'll have to watch this when I get some time. I was never able to get into Secret of Mana at all, I think the farthest I've gotten was about half an hour into the game.

And now, the JCE special, Final Fantasy 4 (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/FF4%20-%20Leno.rar)! I'll post the segments as I go this time, instead of a giant marathon like I did Secret of Mana. The first two segments go as the Dark Elf.

Uses v1.0 of the US version of FF4. Made with Zsnes v1.51

:edit:

And now parts 3-9 (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/FF4%20-%20Leno%20-%203-9.rar) of the movie. I did not include my massively epic fail attempt at Zeromus, but once I beat him I'll upload part 10.

I recently started getting an interest back into the MMX series, so I made movies of the first (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Leno%20sucks%20at%20MMX%20v1.0.smv) three (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Leno%20sucks%20at%20MMX2.smv) games (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Leno%20(really)%20sucks%20at%20MMX3.smv). I failed, hard. All three were made with Snes9x v1.51 (I stuck with it since an outdated and desync-happy Zsnes isn't appealing to use).

:edit:

Those that have been reading RHDN knows where this next one is coming from. A series of Super Mario RPG (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/SMRPG.rar). Made with Zsnes v1.51 and Snes9x v1.51. You'll know which is which because of the extensions.

Well, I haven't been on here in a long time.

Anyway, I Got a new youtube series going on called Final Fantasy Condensed. The purpose of this is to go though FF1 - FF12, minus FF11 + FF10-2, With just the story, All the leveling is being cut out of the videos to make the runs shorter and get this, it's being hosted at this site I'm a partner with.

The first game is FF12, Looks good being captured though my capturing device, but I hate that the program I use desyncs the audio and video after about 20 minutes of recording. :/ The desync dosen't happen when i'm not recording, of course I'm listening though the Line in through windows volume control. :/ so i dunno.

Videos so far: 82

Anyway here's the link: Final Fantasy Condensed (http://tnmcproductions.com/videos/Partners/Shinrin/ffc.html) This will be where all the FF videos will be.

Next on the list, I'll be taking a break from FF after beating FF12 and Work on KH1 CoM and KH2, CoM will be the GBA version unless I get lucky and get a copy of Re:CoM.

Videos so far: 0  :omghax:

While nothing is on there yet, here's the link : Kingdom Hearts Series. (http://tnmcproductions.com/videos/Partners/Shinrin/kh.html)

To keep you posted on updates I will make a new post (if a new post appears after this one) to check out this post saying video so and so is out.

 :edit:

Just realized i never finished posting all the videos to my FF6 run   but it would take a while, as there's over 400 FF6 videos, so i'd just suggest until the FF6 Condensed version. Don't know how many videos it will be, but less than 400  :childish:

this is of me dicking around in super metroid.  it's really not my best run, as i've come up with some better "tricks" and can execute things more "smoothly", but it's not awful to watch.

sorry about the rar file, but the zmv was just a tad too big.

:edit:
for those wondering, because i asked a long time ago, zsnes will write right over the rewound/re-loaded parts.  i used a few states during the run and watched it after and the re-loaded over parts were cut out.

Made with Zsnes v1.51

I started a "FF VI Level 1 challenge" (I hacked the game so that all forced battles give no exp, Terra starts at level 1 and all new characters join at the party's level average)

I can't beat Vargas because of his Gale Cut move, so I'm kinda stuck :P

You can see my full run so far here (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=LeviathanMist&view=videos), including one of my failed Vargas attempts. (The five most recent videos on my account)

*insert crying smiley here*

Actually, I'm amazed at how little grinding I had to do. I didn't think Zeromus would be that much of a jump (I guess that happens when you don't play that version for a while).
Title: Re: Movies of playthrus
Post by: Dragonsbrethren on September 15, 2009, 06:06:28 PM
You never really need to level grind in this game. I haven't watched your Zeromus fight yet, but I've beaten it around level 45 (mind you, only Cecil and Rosa were alive, and utterly dependent on perfect command input). Things you don't appear to be aware of from the movies I've watched:

You should not attack with rods. Go to item, press up, then double click on a rod to cast its magic. The normal rod uses magic arrow, elemental rods cast level 1 elemental spells, etc. With a single exception (turtle), this magic is always stronger than these weapons' attack when they're relevant.

Monsters have rows in this game! Don't waste your physical attackers on back row targets when you could be killing the front row first. You could've been one-shotting a lot of enemies with counters if you were wiping out the front row first.

Equipping two of the same claw on Yang has no benefit. Always have two different claws on him. As long as you're hitting an elemental weakness, an enemy's elemental resistance/absorption is ignored.

There are items hidden in pots and the grass in just about every map.

There is a small room on the right side of Damcyan castle's exterior with some useful equipment and items.

Alligators are weak against ice, not lightning.

You can heal for free in chocobo forests (heal with magic, then restore your MP).

This I did know, but I don't think I had any applicable uses for it in this movie.

a big bump for this topic.

So I've been posting videos of Final Fantasy games on my youtube site, I have FF1 and 6 done, but these runs contained level videos that are quite boring, So those runs are going to be replaced. I'm going to be putting up a good bit of Square and Enix games up on my site, along with other games such as from the Tales series and other stuff on here.

Right now I'm doing a thing called Final Fantasy Condensed, which is All the numbered FF games, excluding 11 and 13 as i don't have either game, of course 11 would take forever to do, and would be quite boring, so even if i had 11 it still wouldn't be done.

So I started with Final Fantasy XII on my Series, I've started in June and it's been going on for 10 months now, I've been lazy about getting to it, but hopefully I'll have it done soon.

So, if anyone has tons of free time and want to watch me beat Final Fantasy XII do so right now.

Tonight was my first-ever attempt at a 2xWhite Mage + 2xBlack Mage run (not really for speed, just for fun). This (http://slickproductions.org/data/junk/Final%20Fantasy%20-%20Leno%202xWhiteBlack.7z) was the result of that attempt. If you decide to watch, I highly recommend using fast forward because I do some grinding in places. It's a long movie (~6 hours), so make sure you have free time when you watch. I believe the game over count is at 3, which isn't bad.

Needs Nestopia v1.40

Epic bump for great justice.

Thanks to the services of one Gil Galad (http://slickproductions.org/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=37), the FF1 speedrun I recently completed will have a home until SDA verifies it. That will likely take a while since their Awesome Games Done Quick marathon is right around the corner, so this run will remain up for the immediate future. Enjoy (http://slickproductions.org/speed.php).
