Printscreen is what you're looking for if you want bigger screenshots. I do suggest that you use a smaller resolution (preferably a custom windowed one) and alt+printscreen (to simply capture the window data) so you don't have to do any sort of photochopping.

I did a screenshot in Zsnes (version 1.42) at 1024 * 768 and the screenshot produced was 256 * 223.
Maybe you were thinking about when pressing PrintScreen? (Or a different version, perhaps.)
