    ● ● Disc change instructions ● ●

True FF5r-IC is a patch that allows you to switch between three ROMs as the story progresses.

     The three ROMs include:
They are named Disc 1, Disc 2 and Disc 3,
Here we will explain the steps to take when changing disks (switching ROMs).
     Let me explain.

    ■ ■ Disc1 → Disc2 ■ ■

Start playing with Disc 1 and progress through the adventure.

     At some point
     ”Please exchange for disk 2.”

When this message appears, switch to Disc 2.
     It’s a matter of timing.

After the message prompting you to change discs appears, you will be temporarily moved to a mountainous map.
You will be returned to the field again, but your character will disappear and you will be unable to move for a while.
These phenomena are not abnormal so please wait for a while.
(Special processing is used to allow you to move on to the next disc.)
If your character appears and the airship disappears after a few seconds, you’ve succeeded.

After seeing that message, don’t move and immediately save on the field.
Quit the game and perform file operations.

     True story FF5r-IC Disc1.srm

     A save data file named
I think it’s in the save data folder.
(The extension may differ depending on the emulator.)
     But copy and paste this

     True story FF5r-IC Disc2.srm

     And rename it.

Once that’s done, launch the True FF5r-IC Disc2.smc ROM in the emulator,
     Load that save data.
It is safe to overwrite and delete any save data that has not yet finished playing Disc 1 at this time.

    ・Removal of prohibited items

In this patch, we take advantage of the features of the disk change system.
Compared to the types of items that can be featured in the game,
     Many items are featured.

As the disc progresses, some items
As a separate item (a different item with the same item ID)
Since we are planning to re-release these items,
”Prohibited items” are called, and after changing discs,
It will be disposed of immediately.

However, when the message prompting you to change disc appears,
Prohibited items will be automatically collected and disposed of.
I think it would take very little effort.
(Any weapons or armor currently being equipped will also be confiscated.)

     Most of the “prohibited items”
Since it is a weak initial equipment such as “Knife”,
If you play normally, you will probably see the message prompting you to switch to Disc 2.
Even if you check the item list, the “prohibited items” have already been disposed of.
I think there are many cases where the item cannot be found in the equipment or item list.
Of course, in that case no items will be collected or disposed of.

     Regarding specific prohibited items,
Please refer to the enclosed “Specifications: Prohibited Items.txt”.

     Just one thing to note.

When a message prompting you to change disc appears,
Prohibited items will be removed without question,
If you don’t sell weak equipment beforehand, you will lose out on gil.
     please note.

The weapons and armor you start with are automatically collected, so
As the adventure progresses and higher-level items appear, you can buy more and more.
I think it’s best to sell old things as they come up.

If you don’t want to lose even one gil, try to reach Crescent.
     (Referring to “Specifications: Prohibited Items.txt”)
Please sell all weak equipment. Generally, equipment after Karnak is
Since these are not prohibited items, there is no need to rush to sell such equipment.
Also, equipment with special effects such as the Henka Rod
It is not a prohibited item.
Use the item “Ramuh” to eliminate them.

     ・Changes after disc change

After changing discs, the equipment you had equipped may be gone.
It seems that equipment that falls under the “prohibited items” has been collected.
Just to be sure, check the equipment column, and if there are any areas that are not equipped with anything,
      Please re-equip.

In addition, due to changes in the placement of magic spells, magic spells that should have been unobtained will be
There are rare occasions when I remember something by myself. Among white, black, space-time, and red magic,
If you make sure to buy everything you can normally buy,
I think that nothing like that will happen and you’ll be able to proceed without any discomfort.

Spells and other things that become weaker and are no longer used are removed from the spell list.
Additionally, some spells have increased power or accuracy, or reduced MP consumption.
Of course, with the magic removed, there will be many blank spaces in the magic column, so
You will be able to learn more new spells.

And the captured monsters will be released. Monsters can be used to obtain items as well.
When changing discs, some IDs are reused and the monsters are treated as different monsters.
Since it will be re-appearing, it will be like capturing a monster you have never met before.
To prevent this, the device is designed to release the battery every time the disc is changed.
      It is happening.

    ■ ■ Disc2 → Disc3 ■ ■

     Continue your adventure

     ”Please exchange for disk 3.”
When you see this message, it’s time to switch to disk 3.

If there is a character whose job is bard at this time,
     Change it to another job.

Then, without moving, immediately save and switch to Disc 3.
Save the data file in the same way as before.

     True theory FF5r-IC Disc2.srm → True theory FF5r-IC Disc3.srm

     And copy and rename
Resume your adventure with True FF5r-IC Disc3.smc.

When you resume, please check your equipment and magic list.

Each town has updated its lineup of weapons, armor, and magic.
There is little difference in the lineup between towns,
I think it might be a good idea to explore some of the towns.

In addition, enemies will change and treasure chest items will appear in past dungeons that have already been conquered.
In some cases, you may be able to reacquire the item.
The difficulty level is very high, but if you try it once you get stronger,
     I think that’s a good idea.

    ■ ■ This time, no save data modification program is required ■ ■

This is a patch I created in the past.
In the case of FF5r-IC and FF6T-IC, every time you change discs
You will need to delete any spells, etc. to play.
Mr. Silgonhagen’s save data modification program was required,
Thanks to you, I have gained some more knowledge and techniques on remodeling this time.
You can delete magic and items in the game without relying on a save data modification program.
     It is now possible.

Therefore, this Disk Change Guide.txt is also for FF5r-IC and FF6T-IC.
The text is much shorter than it used to be.
If you have already played my FF5r-IC or FF6T-IC, this disc change may be of some use to you.
You might be surprised at how simple it is.

     Someday I will re-modify my FF6T-IC,
If possible, change discs without using a save data change program.
I would like to make this possible.

    ■ ■ Disc change system recommendation ■ ■

In 2016, while I was modifying the Super Nintendo version of Dragon Quest 3,
If you make one game into multiple ROMs, you can modify more parts.
I thought it would be fun, but when I actually tried it, it was even more fun than I imagined.
I started to enjoy modding. So from then on, when I play modded games,
We always make sure to use the disc change system.

     When you modify a game,
Please try using the “disc change system.”

Game modding will be 10 times more fun!
