The Ys III: Wanderlust mod on SNES has been released courtesy of clymax.

This mod is unofficial and is unaffiliated with Nihon Falcom.

Like all of clymax’s rando mods, it’s a self-randomizer, so just simply reset the game to play a new randomization.

A release build for Romhack Plaza is being considered, or you can get early access to the dev build on Game Jolt.

A leaderboard is also available here.

    Development Build: Features

Chest items are now randomized. Story-progression items not yet randomized.

Currently, duplicates can still be rolled.

    Experience boosted to 16x.

    Gold boosted to 16x.

    Ring boosted to 16x.

Locked doors have been unlocked to start.

    Player i-frames increased from 20f to 60f.

Skips dialogue that blocks progression. Also skips dialogue that is only heard once.

    World-map locations unlocked to start.

Ogre’s Ball of Fire no longer needed to light Galbalan’s Island.

Ring efficiency improved to 6.4x. Specifically, ring is reduced every 64f instead of 10f.

    All progression blocks removed.

Cutscenes that return you to town from dungeons are now whitelisted from cutscene skips.

Reenabled cutscene skips in the room with the cutscene trigger, when heading toward the boss rather than returning from defeating the boss.

You can now do a triple jump. But beware of jumping out of bounds, as it can softlock your game.

Town health regen boosted to 4x. Does not affect Ring health regen.

You now deal a minimum of one instead of zero damage against enemies, including bosses.

The final boss is now vulnerable even when his heart isn’t visible. This is the case even when one or more of his hands are still visible.

The dialogue for finding herb medicine in the volcano has been whitelisted from being skipped.

You can now hold the L button to force a skipped dialogue to still occur.

The pool of random items has been shrunk to include only items that drop from chests in vanilla.

    Duplicate rolls have been removed.

  • Ys III on the PC Engine CD

    Post-Stream Review by NeoKakarot

NeoKakarot is a fanatic of JRPGs, anime, and DOTA with an especially soft spot for games by Nihon Falcom. You can follow Neo’s work via YouTube or Patreon.

    Video Review

    Writes Neo:

Ys III: Wanderers From Ys is a strange game for the Ys series.

It’s a sidescroller action game the only of it’s kind for Ys.

I ignored this game for many years, but recently I played through it on my stream.

In this video I go over why I didn’t play Ys III initially, why I played it, highlights of my stream for the game, what I think of Ys III and then also just some dumb comedy sprinkled in.

The video is below, so check it out!

    Stream VOD

Wrote Neo last week in a community post on his YouTube channel:

As for Falcom stuff if something comes along which sparks me to make a video I will make it . . . and I’m going to start a PC Engine version playthrough of Ys III pretty soon here.

Soon afterward, in another community post, Neo wrote:

So in the previous post I said I was gonna play the PC Engine version of Ys III and indeed I did.

The playthrough of the game was finished in under 6 hours and it was some very fun old school fashion side scroller action!

I don’t know why it took me so long to play it but I’m glad I did!

For players who wish to check out the stream VOD of the complete playthrough, see below.

So, what do you think? Have you played Ys III? If so, which version of Ys III do you like the most?
